Really loved this site, the way the site was set out it was like a big maze. Lovely big grass pitches. Toilets etc very clean. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Beautiful site - BUT!!

This is a beautiful site. Quite sheltered due to the hedging and very quiet at night. BUT - the wardens were unacceptably noisy through the day. The mowers were going constantly through the day especially the afternoon - just when you need a rest. Worse were the strimmers going full pelt for 4 hours at a time. They have ear defenders we did not. Every single afternoon they mowed the walk at the back of the site. The grass is so short there's hardly any left! Yet all along the hedging is full of weeds. I know they need to keep the site looking nice and some noise is normal but this was torture!! Rant over the site is a lovely place to be and members were very chatty (mostly about the noise ) Showers up to the usual standard, friendly lady in reception, good information room, large dog walk and a play area with scenic walk. Would love to return but maybe not. Such a shame.

Excellent site BUT

This is undoubtedly one of the best club sites we have used over the years. Nice sized pitches and staff very obliging, BUT one general observation pertaining to all club sites. Why are dogs not allowed in laundry when guide dogs and hearing dogs are. This is a silly rule and is discrimination in reverse. It should not be the case , I would appreciate other members views on this subject

Lovely Site

We stayed for 11 nights inc the last week of June. It was not the best weather! However, the site is immaculate from the manicured pitches and high hedges to the very clean facilities. Thank you site managers! It is easy to get to. IOW has lots of places to visit. The dog walk is ok as dogs can be let off the lead but not large enough for them to let off steam. The only gripe we had, was that footpaths were mainly accessed from a walk along the road, which was fairly busy - we have three dogs so did struggled more than most. However, the footpaths on the IOW are well sign posted and plentiful!! For those with motorhomes the grass pitches were level and far more attractive than the hard standings. We had a drink at The Pointer, the beer garden would be lovely on a sunny day!

Beautiful site

We stayed for 4 nights at the end of June. There are a mix of hard standing and grass pitches and we chose a grass pitch as they seem more secluded behind beautifully manicured hedges. Unfortunately the weather wasn't kind and was very wet and windy but considering we were on a grass pitch it was very well drained and it was not a problem. The site wardens keep the site looking immaculate and are very helpful. There is also an information kiosk with lots of useful tourist leaflets for discovering this lovely Island. We took our 2 dogs with us and there was a separate dog walk on site which was enclosed and seemed secure. There is only one toilet/shower block on site but is positioned so it's only a short distance from all pitches. It is spotlessly clean. The only down side to it I found was it closed between 10.30-12.30 for cleaning which I thought was a little early in the morning to shut, but just a very minor gripe. The site is well placed for most things and there are 2 lovely pubs within a short distance. We tried both for food and they were both very good. The Pointer Inn especially, but you do have to book as it gets very busy even during the week. All in all, a fantastic site and we wouldn't hesitate to book here again. Loved it!

Excellent pitch

We were visiting the IoW for 3 days and had initially booked at a smaller independent site. The weather was not kind and after 1 night we found ourselves on a very soft field; in a motorhome this is not great. A quick call to the CC at Southlands and we made the decision to move. What a wise move! The hardstanding pitch and the whole site was immaculate; indeed we would clearly have had no problem on the very well kept grass pitches. The quality of the toilet block etc was superb and incomparable to where we had left. For the small difference in price there was a huge difference in quality...lesson learnt!

Great site and well positioned to visit the island

We came here for a week starting 10 June and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Staff all helpful and facilities all very well kept - did miss piped music in the showers though as we've been spoilt at other club sites. The pitches are well laid out with plenty of room and nicely tended with lots of hedges and trees to break up the site. This is an ideal base to use for visiting the rest of the Isle of Wight which we did with ease. There are also two dog friendly pubs just 10 minutes walk in either direction of the site, although we didn't eat at 'The Pointer' the beer was good but we did eat at the 'The Fighting Cock' which was very good. Would definitely return to this site and love the island.

Isle of Wight gem

Having stayed at Southlands caravan park for 8 nights, I have to say that the park is extremely well kept, the staff are friendly and helpful and the toilet and shower block are well equipped and spotless.

A Fantastic Site

But,the site itself is absolutely brilliant, everything is immaculate, hard standing pitches big enough to build house on and grass pitches that offered both seclusion and a little shelter if you wanted it.There is a good play area with a nice grassed path walk. The facilities were kept to a high standard.Previous comments have been made about walking the lanes locally and I agree you need to have your wits about you, that said we did have a very nice meal at THE POINTER I think the pub was called. When we did get a bus we made it to Sandown and Shanklin, the walk along the the prom was great. Isn't it always when the sun shines? Next time if,we go again I would consider car hire,we just didn't get around as much as we would have liked. We really liked what we did see though. Recommended.

Comfortable and relaxing

We stayed summer half term and were pleasantly surprised that the site was probably only 20% full. There were ample pitches with no one else around. The pitches grass pitches are levey, grass well cut and most of the site is sheltered by high hedges. Only 1 toilet block for our side which was very clean and quiet with the number of visitors, could be a problem when full. They shut for cleaning from 1030-1230 which is to early I think. We picked a pitch near the dog track ( which we did not know about until pitched) and a road runes behind so a little noise. Staff are very friendly. Although plenty of water points and rubbish bins, toilet waste was a little further to go. Site not in easy walking distance of anywhere, a little remote. Wasn't over impressed with the island, lots of small roads so short distances took time, a little pricey for everything, they put it down to transporting it to the island. Did all we wanted to do in 3 days, don't expect to return, but would definatley use Southlands again if we did. Bokk ferry and campsite together to mske it cheaper.
