Very spacious site

Stayed here with friends for four nights in April, site easy to find and a friendly welcome. Chose hard standings as it had been very wet and we had had problems at a previous site, pitches were large and well spaced, facilities excellent as you would expect. The site is very large and the grass pitches are surrounded by very tall conifer hedges which offer wind protection and shade depending on where you pitch The local pub is very good and very friendly though the walk to and from is a bit fraught as the road appears to be rat run for the locals. Enjoyed our stay here, did not think much of Sandown but Cowes including Osborne House was very interesting and the Needles once you got past the commercial bit was beautiful and well worth the walk from the Car park, which by the way is free if you can show a National Trust card. We used the Yarmouth Lymington ferry, not cheap but very quick and you avoid Southampton etc.

A quiet peaceful site

This site is immaculate. Very peaceful at this time of year. We used the club to book our ferry from Lymington and the total came to £134 for our motor home for 4 nights, even cheaper than advertised. We managed to get around by bus ok, although there would be a lot more choice of buses during the high season.

Review from solo motorhomer with dogs

As a single woman driving a motorhome, my concerns are usually a) Security and b) bus routes/ accessibility and c) Dog Walks As regards Security, the location is quiet as stated in all the previous reviews. It is very very very meticulously cared for. I have never seen so many staff cutting grass, cutting hedges, driving the plant and mowers, tinkering with tools, and generally walking around, even to getting down on knees and picking up pieces of gravel off the grass and onto the hardstanding. Above and beyond the call of duty! As an owner of a motorhome I have to rely on buses or other public transport systems in the area to get around. There is a bus stop directly outside the site, but this bus only runs 4 days a week, and only 2 buses a day go into Shanklin and only 2 buses come back. The other bus which is a bit more useful the No 8, runs hourly and goes up to Ryde and Newport, can only be caught after a perilous walk down a bendy country road without any side walks. I had to be acutely aware of listening for oncoming traffic and making sure nothing was coming in the other direction around the bend. Having said this, I did safely negotiate this twice a day every day I was there. The Island really only caters for families and children (in my opinion) if I was a 10 year old I would be in my element. Unfortunately I am a middle aged woman! The site was too far away for me to get to Osbourne House and back in one day. The Island buses take an hour and a half to go to Ryde, only about 8 miles away, as they go around the numerous housing estates. So to get to Newport, change buses and get up to Osbourne House with time to go around the house and do it justice was not practicable. If I had wanted Dino World or Amazon World or Crazy golf, or Treasure Island amusements, I would have been very happy. Having said the bus journeys were long it did provide lovely views of the Island, without having to drive. As regards Dog Walks, there was a very well maintained (obviously) walk between the hedges and fields of neighbouring stables. It took about 5 minutes. There is however a much better walk via the small gate at the north end of the site, it takes you down a bridle path, over a river and onto a brilliant cycle path. A wonderful walk full of adventure and different views. So my review is very specific and relevant to my needs. If you are a family, with a caravan absolutely brilliant...a lovely play ground for youngsters and lovely nature walk for them as well, on a Island packed with adventures.

Cannot fault it

Once again cannot fault this site, it is beautifully maintained, spotlessly clean with the best wardens that I have ever met on any site either in or outside of the network. The dog walking is superb with walks in lots of different directions and the area is so peaceful and tranquil. We live on the Isle of Wight but just staying for a short weekend completely recharges our batteries. Take advantage of any ferry offers and come and stay it will be worth it.

What's to criticise?

We usually opt for the cheesier style holiday home park type sites, but we really enjoyed the peace and quiet of this site. The grounds and facilities are immaculately maintained. The showers were very clean, cubicles large and water hot without that annoying push button malarky. The pitches are large but none really have a view because the hedges are so tall - presumably to act as wind breaks. The play park and little football pitch are good. It was very quiet with no road noise at all. It was a shame the site was only about 10% full though - and we stayed in the middle of the Easter holidays. The Club need to advertise better! I don't see how they can break even with those numbers.

Beautifully kept site

The general reviews for this site are not wrong. The site was immaculate. The grass and hedges look like they have been manicured with scissors! Beautifully kept. The toilet block etc are spotless. My grandchildren loved the playground. Lovely climbing equipment etc with super soft landing mats. Nice kick about area with poles for scoring goals. Nice size pitches. We had a fully serviced pitch which was ideal. Bit of a walk to the service block but hey ho!!! Wifi was good most of the time and TV RECEPTION was very good. Fairly central to all attractions,so a great place to stay.

Another lovely club site

Our first visit to the island. The site was fairly full but is spacious so no feeling of crowds. The staff were most friendly and helpful to the extent of witnessing a property transfer document for us. The facilities were excellent. This site was well placed for buses, an infrequent service at the gate and an hourly service a half mile down the road. This is to us important as we like to leave our motorhome on site and island roads are quite narrow! In summary another great club site.

Lovely place to stay

Despite the weather and therefore a tad muddy, we couldn't fault the campsite. We opted for the grass area and so had the benefit of ducks visiting, how lovely. The showers were the best we've ever experienced. The Wardens were extremely helpful and friendly. The position of the campsite is perfect to visit the entire island. We heartily recommend this site.

Lovely stay in April 2016

Stayed for eight nights in April. Lovely site, wardens really helpful. Only pity was it was following Storm Katie so the beautiful grass pitches were still wet so we were recommended to use the hardstandings. These are new and very large so no complaints but would love to go back and stay in the lovely hedge enclosed grass pitches.
