A beautifully kept campsite

This site is extremely well looked after by the wardens. The toilets are spotless and the grounds are immaculate -the slight downside to this is that even in October there is the noise of lawn mowers and hedge trimmers most days. It has a good dog walk and is about 1 mile from the Red Squirrel cycle trail that takes you to Sandown. The biggest plus for this site though is the excellent Pointer Inn where an interesting and good value menu is on offer. Large helpings at a reasonable price. It is just over 1/2 a mile from the site but there are no pavements so a torch or high-viz jackets might be useful if planning to walk home. We were there in October and had wonderful weather where we spent our days cycling or walking the numerous paths that the Isle of Wight offers. Will return especially as the Caravan Club offer made it very affordable.

Very pleasant stay

We have just enjoyed a week here and enjoyed the beautifully kept site and shower and toilets are spotless. One of the best sites we have visited and will definitely be returning. We were blessed with really good weather, warm enough to sit outside and also enjoyed a bike ride to Sandown along the cycle path, beautiful scenery ending back at The Pointer pub for a delicious lunch.

A lovely site .

We booked a short ferry inclusive break at Southlands in October. A check of the weather forecast before we left home showed that there would be an East wind, which usually means a cold wind. Southlands is surrounded by high hedges on the grassed section, and they offer excellent protection from wind coming from most directions. The hard standing section does not have this protection. We like the way the grassed pitches are in small sections divided by hedging about 1 metre high which reminded us of what we like about many French campsites. Whilst we were there the wardens were working very hard to repair the wear the grass pitches had suffered over the summer, and this meant that a number of pitches were not available, but this in no way restricted us finding a suitable spot. The toilet block was immaculate and the showers lovely and warm. The whole site was very well kept and even the great amount of hedging was all well trimmed. (Not a job I would want to undertake). The dog walk is one of the best we have encountered. The only down side we encountered was some traffic noise during the day, but there appeared to be little passing traffic at night. Be warned that the road up to the site from the main road is a bit bumpy in places and there is evidence of vehicles grounding in a couple of places, so my advice is take your time for the last part of the journey. There is a large Morrisons Supermarket on the A 3056 towards Sandown, about 2 miles from the site with Lidls and Aldis further on.

Everything Good

This is a really well looked after site with great facilities which are kept spotless by the very helpful and friendly staff. If he could talk my dog would give the dog walk ten out of ten. Well kept and larger than most with lovely views. Even the weather was on it's best behaviour. We will be back

Great Site and facilities

This is a really well kept site with great facilities. The running repairs to the grass pitches are done to a very high standard. A good long dog walk that is sheltered and has a good view. Ideally located for visiting the many attractions such as the Garlic Farm, Rosemary Vineyard and our highlight Mottistone Manor Garden. This garden is a real gem and has access to nice walks with good views and points of historic interest. We only stayed for four nights making good use of the ferry deal with Wightlink. The crossing from Lymington to Yarmouth was very easy. It is a real shame that this deal is only limited to two short periods during the year. If this could be renegotiated with Wightlink the site would be much more attractive for a longer stay and also during the summer months when there is more wild life interest. Well done to all of the wardens for giving us a pleasant stay.

Great site but more Hard Standings Required

Lovely site. Great Wardens. Spotless facilities. On arrival we were told we had a choice of two pitches the first which I think was 69 and was very shaded due to trees so we went to the second which was 86 which was perfect, nice and flat and open on two sides with a hedge on the other two. We noticed around twenty pitches were covered with a sheet which we later found out was covering new grass seed as the grass had died due to groundsheets which is such a shame. We walked round the site to see that it is split in two, one half is all hard standings and the other half all grass. Obviously hard standings were preferable here as they were all gone. In a year there must be a lot of pitches put out of action due to dead grass which is frustrating for people trying to book this site and a great loss of revenue to CC. Good location for exploring the island which is well worth the ferry ride even though some of the seaside resorts are a bit run down and look as though some need a facelift. My standard comment still applies to not being prepared to pay for Wifi. Come on CC and provide wifi freely as most places are nowadays.

Week of Chill out

Well what can i say site was better than any photo well lade  out good size pitches will say i was a bit concerned that it only had one toilet shower block but  no need to worry they where large and i know we where there when kids where back in school i never had to Que for toilets or showers i will also add they where so clean and loads of hot water the grounds where so well looked after site was spot on  I will say mind that it is off the beaten track a bit so you need a car or bike, if you like walking then the bus stop is just down the lane about 25mins  walk then for there you can get day or week pass for the island buses  we really enjoyed our stay thanks to the wardens they keep the site tip top

Excellent site

Perfectly maintained flat sheltered pitches. the tall well groomed hedge subdivisions conceal the size of the site, and shelter you from winds. Staff were very welcoming and helpful, as well as keeping the excellent facilities spotless. It is very well sited for visiting the whole Island, and in particular has access in the village to the excellent dedicated Island cycleway network which we explored for the first time. Thanks to the club travel service, booking a package to include the heavily discounted SeaLink ferry made the trip affordable for car and caravan. Please do NOT use satnav to get there if towing. The local roads north of the village are very steep, very narrow and surprisingly busy,so use the directions via main roads.

Excellent site

Our second visit to the site which was just as good as before. It provides an ideal location to visit all parts of the island. Immaculately kept, with outstanding floral displays when we were there in September. The Pointer Inn in Newchurch is to be recommended if you can cope with the size of the meals!

A caravan Club Gem!

A lovely site with friendly wardens. Great pitches, most with hedging to keep the winds at bay. The toilets & showers are excellent & always thoroughly clean. Love it! The pointer Inn, one of the Islands best eateries, is 10 minutes walk away.......You need to book! Get a bus pass.....1,3 or 7 day passes....cheap as chips....the best way to see the island!
