Fabulous Few Days

What a beautiful site! We booked for three days, two campervans and Sid the dog. We were hoping to get two pitches together but were unable to on our first night however the lady with the blond hair went above and beyond the call of duty in helping us achieve it for our other two days. So helpful and I forgot to get her name!! The site itself is immaculate as are the facilities. Lots of information of whats on around and about. We preferred the grass pitches which had more privacy with lovely hedges surrounding them and Sid loved the dog walking area near the playground just a shame that other dog owners were not so respectful and left their dog mess for others to clear up!!! Will definitely return

Excellent site

Excellent site, we stayed in a hard standing pitch which was very roomy. As usual with CAMC, facilities were very clean. Staff very welcoming, we arrived earlier than the ‘arrival time’ due to unintentionally getting on earlier ferry. We were allowed to check in and pitch up, so that was a bonus! Pointer Inn and Fighting Cocks are both nearby and serve excellent food and ale. Plenty to see and do in area. Note: Red Squirrel Trail for cycling IS NOT family friendly, if with youngish children, as quite a bit of it is on busy roads with steep hills (some winding), the rest is on disused rail tracks and across fields etc All in all a great holiday and the site is a credit to the wardens who work really hard keeping it clean and tidy.

Super Southland

Well maintained site with nice big grass pitches and neat hedges. Some road noise can be heard if pitched next to road. Unfortunately not really able to walk out of site easily due to lack of paths. Village doesn't have many paths either and no shops only a pub. Though we did manage to walk to Sandown from out the back of the site and using the red squirrel trail. We also walked to the Garlic Farm and there is a great little plant nursery to walk to, turn left out of the site & left at the lane (not too much traffic!)

Beautiful site - some suggestions

This is a really lovely site in a beautiful part of the world- we had a really lovely holiday. I would just like to raise two issues - I was concerned that some people in addition to pitching a large awning then do a ‘land grab’ by constructing a fenced in area which covers as much area as the awning. I think in most cases this is probably to create a dog pen but as I seem to recall Club rules state that dogs should be on a lead - something we always respect when our dog is outside the awning. Secondly I would like to raise the issue of flags- there seems to be something of a competition going on to see who can erect the largest pole with some kind of flag/ mobile/ kite on top. I suspect there may be an issue of ‘flag envy’ going on with a my pole is bigger than your pole mentality. These flags are obtrusive and I suspect unwelcome by many Club members- I hope the Club bans these poles/flags

Beautiful

Instantly on arrival we just knew this site was something special. Away from main roads, close to a village with a local pub. And when driving through looking for a pitch we just knew we were in for a great stay. It is split into sections which are separated by the most neat looking hedging. Trees and plants all around. We had no problem choosing a pitch as there were many that were excellent. The grass pitches are the best we've seen and everything around was so neat and tidy. The wardens here obviously do a magnificent job. Good dog walk with fabulous views. Lots of rabbits in the fields and horses in the paddocks. Our first visit to Isle of Wight and we will definitely return. It is easy to get around and doesn't take long to get to anywhere, and there is lots to see! Good local pubs are The Pointers in the village and The Fighting Cocks on the main road. Further afield we enjoyed lunch right on the seafront in Ventnor at The Spyglass Inn. Osbourne house worth a visit. So much to do and places to see. A great holiday!

Superb stay

What a joy to find a well maintained, spotlessly clean and quiet site. Lovely helpful staff, plenty of help and advice provided. First visit to IOW and would return to this site definitely. Recommended to friends already. Thoroughly enjoyed the week. Deserves its 5* rating and a bargain for the site fees, we've paid double for 1/2 as much in the past at other sites.

One of the best UK sites

This is a lovely well kept site which on the grassy pitches has rather unique yew and other hedges that give both shelter and break up the area to give a garden like feel. Admittedly we had fantastic weather and were able to relax outside for much of the time. The grass pitches in particular are very spacious and the whole site is peaceful being set in countryside on the edge of the very quiet village of Newchurch. Within minutes you can reach the Red Squirrel cycle trail and also the Round the Island trail. Using local lanes and trails we were able to pedal to a variety of locations such as Newport, Cowes, Sandown, Shanklin and the Donkey Sanctuary (a must-see!). The pub (a 10 minute walk away) has a great menu and the food is well above the average 'pub grub'. You need to book though as it is extremely popular. We were very impressed with this site and its good facilities and the helpful wardens.
