A very nice and quiet site, ideal for visiting the coast and the moors. Will definitely return.
Pleasant site But
Very clean site, but we wanted a pitch with an awning, only ones we could book were without, In the 5 days we stayed as I walked from the shower block to pitch 56 there were 8 pitches that were for awnings and none were put up which I think was very selfish. People don't realised that the pitches are all the same size. Maybe the caravan club should charge extra for awnings and then they would not have this problem. Won't stay there again.
Easter break
Booked this site very early (Dec 2016) as it gets booked up quickly and we can see why, arrived on site at 12.30 and was greeted by friendly and helpful staff, having found my little piece of land for the weekend, I hooked up with no problem near one of the two toilet blocks on site, which were very clean & tidy, the showers were hot. The site is set on three levels and being on the lower level it is a nice gentle walk to the main office and dog walk, the village is a good 10 min walk, pub in village serves good beer. Will be booking this site again.
Pre-Easter Break
Not our first visit to West Ayton and won't be the last. We had a pre-Easter break with grandchildren and left the site on Good Friday. It actually took us a while to leave as early new-comers were being allowed on site before the allotted time to avoid queues outside the site. It was a wise move by the wardens and handled by them extremely well.
Staying at West Ayton is usually a good experience and this was no exception. The site is very well maintained and the wardens perform extremely well. There is enough to keep grandchildren happy with the usual play equipment and a huge playing field. If there is a downside it has to be the two toilet blocks which now appear comparatively cramped and very tired and in need of some new investment, although the actual showers were hot and powerful.
The bus stops and a decent pub are a short walk away and we were able to see the sunshine in Scarborough and a couple of railway engines in Pickering and a pub evening meal as a treat. A wonderful time was had by all
It was Ok
Stayed here for two nights last week, one of the wardens thinks he has a built in personal speedometer as he stopped me to tell me there are lots of kids about and it is 5 mile per hour, i had my grandson with me and NEVER go above 5 miles per hour on CC sites, however there were loads of other owners going well over during our stay, i am sure the speed of the wardens on the tractors was more than 5 MPH. When we arrived we asked if there were any Bus time tables available and were directed to the information shed, as it turned out these time tables were over 6 months out of date which led to a 1.5 hour wait at the bus shelter, not great for MH owners who rely on these facilities. The toilets in the male block were over flowing which I have never witnessed before, perhaps the wardens should do more checking of the cleanliness of the toilets rather than trying to act as speedometers??
Great Site but let down by toilets/ showers
The site is fantastic but seriously let down by the toilet/ shower facilities (Please Caravan Club invest some money into these facilities because it has potential to be one of the best sites in the UK)
The staff were brilliant and really helpful.
The 2 parks for the children were great! including the games room.
The dog field was great as well as having a dog shower on site (great idea and first one i've noticed at a club site)
The location was great for access to Scarborough, Whitby, Dalby Forest etc.. and the walks around the site for the Forest Park were excellent.
The shower and toilet facilities were the worst i've seen for The Caravan Club. They were all old/ dated and generally felt dirty. Before I came to this site i thought all CC sites had the standard toilet/ shower facilities but obviously not.
I would come back as the family really enjoyed the stay but just think a bit of investment is needed.
Lovely Site
We love going to this site every year The present wardens are extremely helpful and friendly. The only downside which I would say about the Club is that during the winter a lot of trees have been cut down, which is great as it opens the site up,but when we were there the road to the dog walk ought to have been swept as it was covered in dried sludge.Thankfully it didn't rain or our dog would have been in a mess.Don't get me wrong this is only minor.I noticed that there was a road sweeping depot just up the lane with their lorries driving past in the morning.May be one of these could have been diverted around the site.
Love this site
We have been to this site so many times and will keep going has its our fave site. The wardens we know from this site in the past and are very good at keeping it clean and tidy, excellent job. We found the only problem was other guests and their dogs. When your out walking your dog and someone else's dog comes bounding over to your dog around the site, that can be a problem. One of my dogs can be funny with large adult male dogs so we keep him on a lead, like the rule states for around the site. Some people insist that doesn't apply to them and let their dogs off lead and not tied up, so their dog can roam out their awning and away from their caravan. Not fun. Also people not picking up after their dogs. I had the honour of walking someone else's dog mess into our caravan, thank you to all those that refuse to pick up. People need to understand that it's not the wardens job to pick up after the quest's dogs, if you going to bring a dog, clean up after it and keep it under control or don't bring it. The wardens keep that site very clean and did awesome job.
Great location
For our first stay at a caravan club site we are really impressed, great location, good pitch and friendly staff, well looked after site, good toilet facilities and great for dog walking.
Will definitely return
Looks like it could get very busy in school holidays
Great site
Stayed at this site in March of this year. It is just what you would expect of a Caravan Club site. It was very clean, well set out and in a lovely setting. I read earlier reviews regarding modernising the toilets/washrooms.although a little dated they are very clean and well maintained. I , however have two little-very little downs, firstly the yellow marker post around the site. This would make it very awkward to reverse a caravan into some of the pitches , especially longer units.I understand there is a need to keep vehicles off certain areas of grass but right by the pitch I don't think is necessary. Secondly the hard standing pitches are HARD STANDING ,I bent half a dozen good solid six inch nail type pegs and broke a mallet trying to erect my awning. The Joy's of caravaning. On the whole a wonderful site . 5*
