Lovely Site

I last stayed at West Ayton some 45 years ago with my parents and to be honest don't remember much. We have just spent the late May bank holiday weekend there. I have to say we were very impressed with the site overall. Although this is a big site, the split levels and landscaping meant it didn't feel big. As with all Caravan Club sites, it was clean and well kept. The dog walk area was lovely and plenty of room for our dog to stretch his legs and it also linked to longer walks should you wish to do so. This site is handy for visiting lots of places in North Yorkshire, we had a trip into Scarborough one evening, a day in Whitby and a short ride on the North Yorks Moors Railway steam train from Aidensfield oops I mean Goathland, for those that watched Heartbeat. The shower block is dated as are a lot of Caravan Club sites but was clean and tidy. You do tend to get spoilt when you visit Poolsbrook which is all very new (albeit is unbearably hot to the point of being unusable in warm weather). I did see one thing that was a bit offputting, in one of the ladies toilet cubicles someone had left a used ladies item on top of one of the bins. Not pleasant for anyone to see, least of all the wardens who have to clean them. I do find it astonishing that people can be so gross. For those that use wifi, as we do, the signal was very good and never had any problem getting on the internet. We had fantastic weather which always helps and it was nice to be able to sit outside for a change and watch the world go by. There is a fish and chip van that's calls on a Friday night but as we had bought supplies we didn't make use of it. All in all a lovely site if you want to explore the East Coast and its many attractions. Although we didn't have any children with us, there was a big play area for the kids.

Boomerang Site

This site is one we visit 2 or 3 times every year. The wardens are friendly, the location is superb, and this is one of the most tranquil and peaceful CS's around. Even though a fairly large Site, it is cleverly laid out so that it feels smaller and more exclusive. The grounds are very well maintained, shower blocks are very clean, and the kids love a table tennis challenge in the games area near to the large play park. We will be back soon, just wish we had more Holiday days at work!!

Excellent site and wonderful wardens

Being fairly new to caravanning after a break of some 25 years, it is refreshing to find wardens who make every effort to assist 'newbies'. The warden team at West Ayton were most helpful in directing us to walks, advising on pegging technique with our new awning and generally giving us advice, all done with a smile. The site facilities are kept spotlessly clean and we had a great pitch with good space and privacy. We are fortunate to be returning next week for 5 nights.

good site, but

have visited this site many times, and always had an enjoyable stay, this was no exception this time, good friendly helpful wardens, clean facilities, tidy site, however the only let down was no less than 3 dogs untethered and left to wander freely, one member actually exercising his dog with a ball amongst other outfits where people were obeying club rules and keeping their pets fastened, other than that a nice peaceful stay

Wonderful West Ayton

Its many years since we visited this site (so many to choose from) and although the site was always good it has much improved since we were there last. In particular I was impressed with the dog walk and dog shower that came in handy after a walk in the forge valley. We can recommend the Fish & Chip Shop in the village as well as the pub for chefs night off. The toilet blocks are a bit dated but spotlessly clean. Wardens helpful and friendly. We are looking forward to a return later in the year.

West Ayton club site

Just returned from a week at West Ayton, our second visit to the site. It is a very peaceful spot with play areas and a field for children. The wardens are very good and helpful. The facilities are ok but starting to look a bit jaded and could do with a refresh. The location is a bit isolated with a steepish walk into the village which boasts one pub serving food. There are good walks in the area along the Forge Valley. If visiting near bye Scarbor'o use the Park and ride scheme, also the same applies to Whitby. The Downe Arms pub is a couple of miles down the road towards Pickering and serves good food, It is also dog friendly. If you go to Whitby try the Humble Pie cafe, just to the right over the bridge, traditional pie and peas with a vintage theme.

A good site for families, couples and dogs - all ages. Shame about the newspapers.

We really like this site even though parts of it are getting "tired". The comments about the newspaper charges are interesting, especially the club's response. We agree entirely with the member who entered the review on 23 April. 10p is more than enough, as newsagents will give discounts for regular, large orders. The club failed to check what commission the wardens receive in vouchers etc.that more than cover the fuel costs.

Superb site

We haven't visited this site for 6 years and am so pleased we visited again. Pitches were much improved and also the dog walk has been made larger. We had such a wonderful 11 day stay over Easter. The showers were very hot and powerful although they are of the old style - we have been very spoiled by the newer blocks on some sites where the cubicles are much larger and have no curtain to stick to you when you're wet! I can understand the previous review about awning pitches being used by some who don't use an awning but this problem isn't specific to this site in particular. We booked our pitch in December so we were able to get the pitch type we wanted We will definitely visit again - its a lovely part of the world and the site is excellent.

Fantastic

Fantastic. We (2 adults 2 children) have just had 4 nights here and it was lovely. Nice quiet site, great location, lovely wardens. Scarborough sea front & Peasholm Park just a 10 min drive. Robin Hoods Bay 30 mins drive. Showers and toilets were very clean and tidy. 2 play areas (one for older children and one for younger children) also a games room with 2 pool tables and a table tennis table. Nice dog walking area. We will definitely be returning to this wonderful site.

Excellent site in a lovely location

We have visited this site many times and have always enjoyed the tranquility and peaceful setting. It is very well placed for both the coast and the Yorkshire Moors. Showers and toilets were always clean, as I would expect on any Caravan Club site and the wardens were very courteous. We were, however, disappointed to find the need to charge 20p to supply a daily newspaper (which could be bought from the Spar shop in the village). It's always nice when on holiday to be able to collect one from the office and given the number of people on site I'm sure the old charge of 10p would more than cover the cost.

Comment from the Club:

Many thanks for your review and we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at the site. We just wanted to clear up any confusion regarding the charge for newspapers. Unfortunately the local spar do not supply the site with newspapers and as such the site staff have to drive to the next village early each morning which is a 6 mile round trip. The charge of 20p doesn’t cover the cost of this but it is a service the wardens on site want to be able to offer members. I hope this helps explain why the charge of 20p applies and we hope you return to the site again soon.
