We stayed at Rookesbury Park as we thought the sound of The Forest of Bere was just what we wanted for peaceful walks and some wildlife. The entrance to the forest and inside as well was a cacophony of screaming children and play areas.Other than that the campsite was lovely and the staff were all helpful and nice to talk to. Will go again when the weather seems more settled.
Short Stay
I stayed for 2 nights, to enable my motorhome to be waxoyled in nearby Fair Oak. I have previously stayed with my wife, using the site as a stop-over when travelling long distances. The site is well laid out with beautifully clean facilities. There is one draw back for motorhomers, that being it is a long walk to Wickham and/or a pub. On this most recent visit there we rather a lot of children on site who did not use the play facilities but preferred to ride around the roads until quite late in the evening using bells and horns on their cycles, as well as honed vocal chords. Am I getting old maybe? or inconsiderate parents?
Coming back
Loved this site would definitely come again. Good location for park a
& ride to Portsmouth.
Dogs
Lovely site. Helpful and friendly Wardens. Quite a few dogs. Stayed there twice with a five week gap. On both occasions saw and reported two or three dogs not on lead. As usual comments from dog owners were to the effect that their dogs were not a problem it was other people's dogs. The place for dogs is not on a campsite as many continental sites are proving.

ok for some
On arrival we were told to place the caravan back offside corner on the white peg and the car next to the caravan, as has been the club rules for many years This rule seems not to apply to everyone,as the weekend approached this rule seemed to be none existent as many caravans seemed to face any way so that the occupants could join the two caravans together with a gazebo and were allowed to play football, drink and play loud music until late. We fully understand that people are on holiday and out to enjoy themselves but not to the detriment of others who have come for a rest.We have been members now for over 35 years and if this is what the caravan club think is acceptable we are seriously thinking of cancelling our subscription.
Lovely site!
Just back from Rookesbury, absolutely lovely site, huge pitches, usual fab cc facilities (why don't all campsites do this?!), great playground and great weather! Wickham village is lovely and only a mile away, Fareham only 5 miles away for larger supermarkets/high street. Will definitely return
A friendly face is worth a fortune
Stayed here one night last week off the St Malo ferry. Site was heaving (!!) when we got there but were checked in very efficiently. Should have got his name and didn't but the younger male warden we spoke to was excellent - a lesson in how to do that job. Friendly, chatty, calm, but not OTT! Problem with EHU was also fixed within a few minutes.
Negatives: None - there was some noise on site but I cannot see how you get round that when it is so full and you have a lot of children on site, it was a little daunting being sent to find your own pitch when the site was so full but minor issues and would without question go back.
Long Weekend/ wedding
Great site, Wardens very helpfull and good knowlege of surrounding area. we travelled to Wickham for a wedding and an extended week end, when we arrived we where a little overwhelmed over the size of the site, we found a lovely spot and set up. It was so quite and peacefull. Enjoyed our short stay and will be back again.
Overnight stay
Just 1 night stay on the way to I O W. A very clean and well run site. Ideal for catching the ferry with some pitches allocated for ferry members. about 30 minutes away from Southampton. Very helpful and pleasant wardens.
Rookesbury Park
We arrived at approximately 6.45 in the evening, having come off the ferry. The wardens were just finishing but could not have been more helpful. They took time to ensure we had a suitable pitch and knew where all the facilities were. This is the second year we have stayed at Rookesbury Park, last year we arrived at 10.30 at night in the middle of a deluge. The wardens were fantastic on that occasion, this being the reason we were looking forward to returning.
