Lovely site but not particularly dog friendly.

We have just returned from this site after a 3 night stay. The site is has excellent facilities, is spacious and has lovely views. There is some road noise at the top end of the site but you get used to it. This is the price you pay for being on the A66 and this makes it an ideal transition site. We are dog owners and although the site does have a small dog walk, there is nowhere to take your dog offsite unless you drive somewhere. The warden did recommend a disused racecourse that is on the outskirts of Richmond and this was a dog walkers paradise. This is definitely a site where you need your own transport to get anywhere and this was reflected in the lack of motorhomes. I would disagree with the website about it being dog friendly- having to drive in order to walk your dog is impractical.

A lovely site in a very pretty area

What a lovely well kept site just off the A1 at Scotch Corner but near some lovely little Yorkshire villages. A nice walk down into Gilling West where the White Swann serves lovely home cooked food and fab wines. The wardens do a really good job keeping the site very clean. Some members turned up early so when I arrived at about 12.10 pm the que was nearly up to the A66 as they needed to wait until 12.00pm before check in opened. Would return here again but maybe wait until about 1.00pm to make sure the que had gone down.

weekend break

This is one of the cleanest and well maintained sites we have ever stayed on, the shower blocks are quite new and very clean. Good location, lots of lovely Towns & villages to visit nearby, bus service right outside the site into Richmond. Friendly/helpful staff

quick week end away

Just got back from this really nice site, having passed this site many times on our way to Scotland ,so we decided to give it a visit ,we killed two birds with this one having wanted to test the new van ,and also without travelling a lot of distance from Leeds . The warden who i spoke to was excellent and had time for chat , i even commented on this being the 1st caravan site I had being to that didn't have some form of leaky water tap when you want to fill your aqua roll . the site is well placed for Richmond and Durham ,and if you have a caravan issue ,then Roopers or Catterick caravans are only 20 mins away. we found the noise level ok ,but the site has a good elevated position looking over the fields which is really nice, especially on millionaires row ( as the warden called it) we found the Television reception is not quite good ,we have one of those Antex single aerials on our van ,so BBC channels are a no go . the toilets are absolutely 1st class ,as is the overall site. overall well worth a visit ,and the weather was kind .

A night away

Just popped down the road for a night away and the tranquillity of our MH. What a little gem of a site - clean and tidy with lovely views across the valley to the south. New or newish shower block and new MH point, no drain cover to lift! Noise from A66 was not as obtrusive in my view as other reviews seemed to suggest. Nice spot for a day or two stay and we shall be going back.

Superb Site and Helpful Wardens

As we just purchased a brand new caravan we wanted somewhere local to give it a run out for the weekend to check it out and ensure that everything was working okay, and we chose Hargill House, having been there previously, and with it only been 40 minutes away from home. As per usual the site is immaculate, very clean and tidy and in a great location for exploring the the area, with Richmond only being 10 minutes drive away. The weekend was a baptism of fire for us and the van as we had gale force winds of up to 45 mph for the whole weekend, fortunately the van stood up to everything Mother Nature threw at it and we never ended up in Oz. On the Sunday morning we decided to err on the side of caution and hang back a little till the wind subsided a bit, which it didnt do, so i went and spoke to the wardens and explained that i was not to happy about driving in the wind and i offered to pay for another night as the wind was due to subside around 4pm, i was told that there was no need to do that and that as they werent fully booked we could stay as long as we wanted up until 5pm, I was even given some advice by the warden about driving in the wind which was really appreciated, we got home safely but i am eternally grateful for the assistance and advice and would recommend this site to anybody.

very tidy site

Been to this site about 12 time and we love it ,we soon get use to the traffic noise and views make up for that. The only thing we could complain about is the poor heating in the toilet block, the rads never got hot only cool but the rad in the laundry was red hot. After that moan we will be back.

Lovely site

This is a lovely site to visit, it is well placed for Richmond and the Yorkshire dales. There is road noise from the nearby A66 and the road leading to Gilling West, but this did not effect our stay. The dog walk is not that good, and the roads nearby are very busy. The site facilities are of a very high standard, and were immaculate, the site is very clean and tidy, credit to the wardens, they were always there to help and very friendly.
