Lovely site within easy walking of the Country Park or the town (Morrisons supermarket). Stayed a few nights, only a couple of miles from motorway. Well maintained site with good facilities, which was kept clean and tidy. (need a key for the washrooms) Wardens very pleasant and helpful. Easy access into the Derbyshire Dale, Bakewell, Matlock Baths etc. Enjoyed our stay and would stay again
Lovely site indeed
just had 3 nights here, very easy to fine just off the M1, beautifully well kept site, small but large enough for plenty of campers, staff very polite and friendly upon arrival, well managed with covid rules at moment too, plenty of station points with water, and chem waste disposal, all grounds kept spotless, nice and quiet site too, toilet/shower block was also spotless, and very modern looking. there was a mobile pizza van on site friday evening, and made delicious pizzas to order, we will definately be back here again soon.
Excellent site with helpful staff and managers
We enjoyed our stay at this site - the site is very well managed and staff were doing all they could to provide a Covid safe environment - the managers and staff were very helpful - there is an information hub which provided good local information by way of a clearly laid out set of information boards/leaflets etc - having the main lake only 5 minutes walk from the site is great for anyone wanting a pleasant stroll and for those interested in bird life there are herons, coot, moorhens, ducks, terns, woodpeckers, grebes etc on the lake.
Quiet location close to Country Park and walking/cycling routes
This was my first visit to this site, a planned visit last year had to be cancelled due to the 2nd Lockdown. It's a pleasant, clean, tidy, well laid out site.
It was also quiet and peaceful as this was a term time mid-week visit. It might be a little less peaceful at weekends and holiday times as it looks like an ideal location to take children with the Country Park next door.
The Country Park offers lots of paths for walking and cycling. I didn't get much chance to sample these as I ventured elsewhere.
The site entrance is approx. 100 years from the Trans Pennine Trail. In one direction you can walk to/from Chesterfield, in the other you can walk to Rother Valley Country Park, both of which I walked to. The Trail itself would take you to Sheffield or even further to Manchester, the former would be well within reach by bicycle.
I had intended to visit a local pub/restaurant recommended by the site staff, a 20-30 minute walk from the site, for an evening meal, but unfortunately something else cropped up and prevented this.
I look forward to visiting the site again in the future.
Best Introduction To a Club Site
Had a stop over here on 12/6/21 before a planned journey onto Hawes. As this was our first visit to a club site, we didn't quite know what to expect, no need to be concerned, the staff were superb, jovial, helpful and professional. The site is pristine and really shows they have a real interest in their jobs, and although we don't use site facilities I imagine those would be the same. The site was very quiet which suited us after a 200 mile drive.
Unfortunately we didn't make Hawes as we could not get the 230v supply into the caravan, as it was getting late by the time we tried, we didn't bother the staff as we guessed it was our van at fault, under warranty but still a nuisance.
Warden checked his supply next day and as expected all ok.
But we will definitely return.
Mid week break.
Poolsbrook is a modern CAMC site with quality facilities. We used it for a midweek break to visit Bolsover Castle and Renishaw Gardens. Both are only about five miles away so easy cycling if you don't want to drive off site. I'd recommend Renishaw as possibly one of the best we've visited in the country. Poosbrook is very close to the M1, ( 'though still quiet,) so could be ideal as a stop over while long distance travelling. The adjoining lakes are ideal for a relaxing stroll. The bird life on them, great crested grebe, greylag geese and coots added to the experience. I'm unsure of local attractions for children. ( As seniors we weren't looking for them.)
Ideal stop off when travelling
I stopped off at this site when travelling to Yorkshire and when returning. It was ideal being just off the M1 at Chesterfield
Morrisons was a few minutes away for stocking up of provisions and the adjacent country park for walking.
The staff were very friendly upon arrival and during mine and my assistance dog's stay
When leaving, I could not connect the electrics between the car and caravan. The staff went out of their way to help. They had a simple device to align the pins. To prevent another incident, I have purchased one from Maypole via Amazon which costs less than £5
Thank you to all the staff.
Don't be put off!
Poolsbrook may not be the Peak District but it is close! It may be close to the M1 and an industrial estate but it has lots of interesting cycle rides and walks close by in the local leisure park and Chesterfield canal. Staveley may not be everyone's idea of an ideal holiday destination but it has its own unique charm.....The site is immaculate and right up to the usual Club top standards. Give it a go!
Chesterfield Canal fest that didn't happen!
We booked Poolsbrooke as it was advertised that The Chesterfield canal Festival was on unfortunately for us they didn't advertise the cancellation so well; However, we have stayed at Poolsbrooke before and thought with good walking on the Trans pennine we'd keep the booking.
We set off and had an unexpected blowout of a 7 Month old new caravan tyre. We contacted the wardens and they were fantastic calming us down and keeping all options open for our late arrival. Being a Friday on a bank holiday we expected problems. I'm a member of the AA and called for help because it was too dangerous for us to do ourselves.
The AA got to us inside of 40 minutes and had us on our way within half an hour ( we carry a spare). We called the wardens to ensure we were welcome to arrive late and were assured they'd be waiting for us.
We got in and met the most helpful wardens you could hope for. Because we were late pitches were heavily occupied. We squeezed onto one of only two left. On giving the warden our pitch number we were informed that many pitches would become free Saturday morning and we could move if we wanted, again top marks for the team here at Poolsbrooke.
Facilities were spotless and covid safe system operating.
The site in general is very tidy with a herb plant garden for all, which was a nice addition.
We ourselves never felt unsafe as another review paid sentiments to. It is a fairly open site, but thick hedge growth offered a thick border which ensures plenty of bird life.
Thanks to all in the wardens team we had a brilliant weekend after a stressful start.
Nice but!
First stay at Poolsbrook and the welcome was warm from the wardens. The site was immaculate and well organised. The approach to the site is through a small industrial area which does not give a good impression on arrival. Dog walking is great as the footpaths lead off from the site. The country park had boy racers doing wheel spins and revving their engines till late in the evening. I do not feel it is a good for children as the site hasn't any specific areas for them.
A big concern was the security surrounding the site. The perimeter fence was a chicken wire affair that was only 3 ft high. This backed onto the footpaths of the country park. You could clearly see and access peoples awnings and a concern if you have children. The barrier on exit did not have a card swipe mechanism and maybe should be addressed. When leaving the site you were instructed to drop you barrier fob into a bucket near the door when the office was closed. Again, not secure as anyone could collect a fob to gain entry especially as the country park has a lot of visitors during the day and evening.
