We have stayed at this site a few times and our last visit didn’t disappoint. Very friendly wardens, good clean facilities and the best in the club for their flower pots/baskets providing a beautiful site as you drive in. Easy access to walk around the lake and watch the bird life and easy access to the motorway. On the down side the ladies toilet block is far to warm in hot weather at the shower end, better ventilation is needed. Also it appears to be the normal thing to walk across other peoples pitches and not only on this site - please have a little respect and walk around the pitch and not across it.
We arrived at Poolsbrook to the most enthusiastic Warden welcome of the year, and the usual lecture about speeding, pitching up etc.
We had a service pitch and they were really good, with nearly level pitches, to be honest I put one side on a 25mm block and we were level so would be okay without I guess.
So down sides, and there were a few sadly...
The road noise is really bad and cars and motorbikes constantly racing along. The weekends there is a nearby off road motorcycle area so noisy.
The amount of dogs on site, 4 in the van next to us for 3 nights were impeccable however site was full of constantly yapping dogs all over. People let the walk across pitches and wee anywhere.
Drivers speed around and wardens do nothing about it, but this is usual on all CAMC sites these days.
People walking across your pitch is something you will definitely suffer from as loads of pitches are a short cut. Wardens should advice people arriving of this.
The "nod" to an environmentally aware site is given by a "No Mow" area, which is nice, but on a site of this size, an area that is less than 2 square meters is taking the ? Well what the dogs do on your pitch!
Access to country park is brilliant as to cycle paths canals etc but is it worth it for the constant noise? I'm not sure and had to put up with it for 14 nights.
P{pictures of no Mow zone available, come on CAMC make an effort there was so much grass area that could have been handed over for diversity
We have just returned from another lovely weekend at Poolsbrook Country Park. The site is easily accessible for the A1 but is peaceful and quiet. The welcome from the wardens was excellent - the wardens were the friendliest we have encountered across our Caravan Club stays. We loved the modern and clean facilities, as well as the well kept site and pitches. The site is next to a beautiful lake with lots of birdlife, so a leisurely walk around the lake is a must! We will definitely return to this site!
We frequently visit Poolsbrook as we think it is a lovely, clean and peaceful site. The wardens are friendly, welcoming and helpful. The last time we visited this site the site had been booked by a few travelling families which caused some nervousness for ourselves and other caravaners. I would just like to say that the Assistant Wardens, Helen and Neil, were fantastic, they spoke to us and regularly checked if we were OK plus did many walk rounds amongst their usual daily jobs. I think they both do an excellent job but on this occasion they were both brilliant and you could tell that they were doing their all to make both the travellers and everyone else enjoy their stay.
Site excellent, facilities well looked after, wardens caring and vigilant.
Closest town needs some investment but has a supermarket, easy walk or cycle. The country park, literally next door has plenty of walks ( especially good if you have a dog).
Good base to explore the Peak District, although there may be better/closer.
Would definitely return.
Stayed here for just a few nights on our way to and from Yorkshire (very convenient for motorway!) but plan to return for a proper stay at some point as so much to do in the area. We got to Chatsworth and Hardwick Hall (NT) - the latter in particular well worth a visit. Also Bolsover Castle (EH). Lovely big, level pitches and friendly wardens.
First stay recently and although it's only 30 mins away, it's the perfect place to unwind. After experiencing a problem with the car leaving me stranded at the barrier with my new caravan the wardens were more than helpful in getting the car out of the way and pitching my caravan for me. Can't ask for more than that.
The location with Poolsbrook Park being 2 mins away allows for a lovely walks from the site. For cycling, many tracks leading off from the site along the Chesterfield Canal or towards Rother Valley. Mainly flat trails.
Will be back very soon and looking forward to a few winter stays too.
Spend 5 days. Good for cycling to rothervalley country park, along Chesterfield canal and short ride around the lake. Spoilt by nearby dog owners using verges between pitches for their dogs on leads all day, fouling. Vast numbers of dogs many having 3 or 4. Pretty small country park with cafe adjacent to site.
Lovely modern really well run site. Located in less affluent post industrial area of the county. Loads to do in particular the wealth of National Trust sites.
Very well maintained site with good modern facilities. Assistant Wardens Neil & Helen are excellent, always pleasant friendly & helpful. Keys required for showers (don't really know why as so many forget them) which are always spotless. Good sized pitches. On the edge of Poolsbrook Country Park with its lake, many walking / cycling trails and small cafe. Supermarket in Staveley (1.5 miles). Chesterfield & Bakewell and The Peak District National Park just a short drive. This site is excellent for short stopovers as only a couple of miles from the M1 motorway or longer stays to explore the Peak District.
