A lovely site, better perhaps for caravans

I was only here one night on this occasion as a stopover. I had been once before, but way back in August 2011 when the site was new, or at least my diary states that it was new! This time around it was not how I remembered it, but it was busy, due I gather to evacuation of Chatsworth, and the time before it had been quiet – odd for August but perhaps largely undiscovered.

It is a very pleasant site, but better I think for caravaners than motorhomers. There are lots of places to visit round and about few of which are easily accessed by public transport. Locally, there is not really that much of interest and the town of Staveley is pretty grotty.

I did not use the facilities this time, but they are modern, unusual in style, and in 2011 I recorded that they were superb. The site was generally well kept. There are some walks in the country park, but sadly my visit was at the tail end of the hideous storms and thus the paths were very muddy; this is anathema to me, so my walking was limited.

Strangely, I could not get any TV other than unwatchable, intermittent, broken reception; I cannot remember the last time I failed to get any meaningful TV reception. I think it was at Morvich 30 years ago in analogue days! I have a transmitter finding app and a compass and I tried every option given and every aerial position all to no avail. I am making myself sound desperate, but it was not a major issue. Others plainly succeeded so I cannot explain this. Perhaps I was just in some kind of dead position (pitch 45). The leaflet given by the site states that TV is best tuned to South Yorkshire, but this is useless information; you need to know the transmitter to use.

Male warden needs to learn some manners!

We stayed for 2 weeks on this site in September and loved it the wardens super friendly we were looking forward to coming back we books 2 nights initially untill we decided on our stay length . We had been driving since 5am very tired and in a rush to attend a family event 1.5 hours away . We went to reception to book in told the dog and don't and went to pitch . Once pitched we left site and went to our event. The male warden called me in an extremely abrupt manner told me we had parked the wrong side of the marked and didn't we listen to what we were told when booking in .. he was rude , abrupt and was taking to me like I was a naughty child !! Never have I experience this behaviour since joining! I had to apologise 6 times before he calmed down . We have left now after the 2 nights and will not return. This was an error on our part but it did not deserve this behaviour .... So remember when you arrive not to miss a word of the instructions....

Excellent Site for Newbie

Poolsbrook is an excellent site for a newbie, only our third trip in our motorhome, it is very close to the M1, so no narrow roads to worry about. The site is next to a lovely park and there are various walking/cycling routes very near. The site was spotless and the wardens where very helpful and friendly. We had a problem with our water and the wardens suggested we call DCR Caravan Services, their number is in the information room. We were becoming very worried as it had just gone dark and water was leaking from the motorhome, however Dave from DCR Caravan Services spent 20 minutes on the phone going through all the possibilities of the problem and he was very patient with me, as I am not very technical. He offered to come to the site in the morning if the suggestions he gave me hadn’t worked, which was very reassuring. Luckily after the call the problem seemed to have been fixed and we had an enjoyable weekend, except for it being wet and windy.

Excellent Site

We are currently on our second visit to this site in less than 2 weeks and and due to visit again in mid February. The wardens are very helpful and cheery. Good facilities and right next to Poolsbrook Park.

Lovely accessible site just off the motorway but very peaceful

Just returned from my second visit to Poolsbrook. The staff there were excellent on both occasions - very helpful, nothing too much trouble. This time, I was travelling alone with my teenage niece, so (unusually for me) used site facilities for showering. As a wheelchair user, I found the accessible room perfect! It was spotlessly clean and the shower was lovely and hot. My assistance dog had plenty of space to help me but stay dry. The walks from the site and around the country park are all accessible too. My niece is currently planning a family holiday here, as she absolutely loved it!

Excellent Site for first timers

We stayed just one night on site, our first night as CAMHC members. The staff were super welcoming and happy to tell us everything we needed to know, about the site and club sites in general. Facilities were impeccable and the whole site was well maintained. Will visit again.

The dog walks from this site are fantastic as it sits in poolsbrook country park. We will return to this site without a doubt ..

Geocaching Trip

First must thank the hard working wardens for sorting out our booking to make a very pleasant stay for us no moving pitches, cheers. We have stayed at this nice site a couple of times before and will do so in the future as it suits us fine. We go Geocaching on our bikes and the site is well placed for this and walking the area. Lots of flat bike paths in the area so well done the local council for providing good paths etc.
