Lovely site

This is a lovely little site in a great location for us, adjacent to St Mary's Lighthouse. The pitches are rather close to each other but you have a smashing view of the North sea. Beaches are stunning around the area. Plenty of places to walk our dogs. Enjoyed fish and chips in Seaton Slice, which is in walking distance. Staff very friendly. I would highly recommend this site.

Near the sea

We do love staying at this site and try a get a pitch so we can see St. Mary’s lighthouse. The location of the site is good for us as our family live in Newcastle and they are plenty of options of buses etc. The only drawback of the site are the shower facilities they are now very dated. One morning the ladies showers were blocked which wasn’t very pleasant. The staff did sort this quickly. We shall be back and hopefully the showers will have been renovated

Cats on site!

We have stayed at this site for over 10 years. We always bring our very shy cat who never wanders outside the perimeter of the motor home! Today we were told that she must be on a lead at all times! How sad that someone has felt the need to complain! We never leave her unsupervised for fear of losing her, unlike many noisy dogs here on site.

Brilliant site

We had been trying to get on this site for get and finally succeeded. It met all our expectations: wonderful views, great walks from the site, good bus services and excellent pubs nearby. Notices on site said the facilities are due for refurbishment, and, while a bit tired, were always clean and useable. Staff friendly and helpful.

Beautiful location but steep site

I stayed here for 3 nights as a solo motorhomer and wheelchair user. I knew the site would be challenging but I chose it because it was close to where I needed to be. Most of the pitches are sloping and need chocks but the accessible pitch was level enough not to need them. Getting around the site was hard work. The main path up to reception has a particularly steep bit. I avoided that by taking the side path past the motorhome service point. This was a little further but less steep. The views from the site are stunning, and being the east coast, perfect for sunrises. There is a nice wide path that goes along the cliff tops towards Whitley Bay. This eventually goes downhill but there was plenty of level path to walk my assistance dog. I found this a good location for visiting Newcastle-upon-Tyne. It was about a 20 min drive to the north of the city on mostly very good roads. The Delaval Arms is just above the site entrance. Wheelchair access is round the back through the car park, but you can only sit outdoors as there are steps into the bars. Food was great though and there is an accessible toilet.

Great location

This is a lovely little site in a great location for us (mature couple, motorhome, pushbikes) The views are stunning, especially if you get a ‘front row’ pitch. We haven’t managed this on either of our two short stays, but you get lovely views wherever you are. We ate at The Delaval Arms, just a 2minute walk from the site entrance, and both food and beer were spot on and reasonable value. We also visited Valerie’s Tea Room at the Spanish City in Whitley Bay, which was a real treat for coffee and cake. There are other good food venues there also, including a chippy, but we didn’t try them on this occasion. We are casual cyclists, and very much enjoyed cycling from here to Tynemouth, stopping at various points en route. There is plenty to see and do here. We would definitely visit again.

Great stay

A return visit for 4 nights didn't disappoint. Warden helped with levelling blocks and we had a great pitch facing the lighthouse. Pub next door. Lots of walks and cycle routes. Wow will be back later in year.

Superb view.

The toilet block is in need of refurbishing. The showers are small and there are only three in each side but the block is kept clean and is functional. The site does not allow for awnings and there are no service pitches, etc, standard hardstanding pitches only. We didn't find this to be an issue as we only stayed five nights. If we were a large party or staying for longer then this may be something that may put us off choosing this site. The views and peaceful atmosphere make this a wonderful destination. Walks along the coast in either direction are superb. Make sure you walk across to the nearby St. Mary's Lighthouse and take a peep at the seals on the rocks. Excellent. I will definitely return to Old Hartley at some stage, refurbished toilet block or not!

Always good to return to Old Hartley

So good to return to an old favourite. First visit since covid, good to be back. The wardens, Helen and Alan are as good as it gets. Everything is well kept, immaculate , as a big plus they are kind and extremely helpful. Thank you for making our first outing such a success. Kate and David Percival

Great site with great views

Just returned from another great stay at Old Hartley, as always spotless facilities, what makes it such a great stay the location, stunning views, and a great location close to Seaton Sluice and Whitley Bay, good walks along the cliff top, and St. Mary’s lighthouse. With a fab pub just outside the gates which serves lovely food and is dog friendly. New wardens this year who are really lovely, a warm welcome from them and helpful advice to avoid getting stuck on the wet grass as part of the site is slightly raised. So much to do it’s a real treat. Levelling blocks needed just incase
