Grewat Views

Lovely site, one of the smaller sites we have used. The views here are stunning and it is an easy stroll (2miles) into Whitley Bay. Wardens were incredibly friendly and helpful (electrics). We will definitely use this location again

Excellent Site for Walkers

This was our first time to visit this part of the coastline and we were mightily impressed with the beauty of the coves and beaches that are within easy walking distance of the site. Buses run very regularly into Whitley Bay and onwards to Newcastle. The best trip we made was to Tynemouth (bus 308 or 309 to the bandstand stop in Whitley Bay and from there the number 1 to Tynemouth). Very quaint and we loved Riley's Fish Shack which is situated down on the Castle beach. It is quite expensive, but the food was excellent - sipping a glass of wine sitting on the balcony of the shack and watching the waves role in - it just couldn't get better. It rained quite a bit when we were there and the field started to become quite churned up. Ideally the access roads need to be completed throughout the site. The pitch we chose was one of the more level ones and we used large Milenco levelling ramps with our motorhome wheels on the highest level. Even so, we could have done with even more height to fully level the unit. So beware, little/light ramps will not be very effective on this site.

1st weekend of year outing

Staff very helpful and amenities brilliant. Only the weather put a dampener on the weekend, but we soldiered on, Lovely site with fantastic view of the lighthouse and the beach. Local fish & chip shop went down a treat, close to Whitley Bay and a great little museum at Newbiggin by the Sea.

Great location but getting off the hardstanding is awkward

This site is in a great location with wonderful views of the lighthouse. Dog walking is excellent in both directions along the coast. Facilities are clean. Site staff are very welcoming and helpful. Levelling a motorhome or caravan could potentially be an issue depending on your pitch. We had no problems as we have a hydraulic jack auto level system. The only real downside is that the hardstandings are accessed over grass. We were warned on arrival to only pitch on the right side of the site as the left was very waterlogged. This issue has been raised by other visitors as in wet conditions it can be very difficult to get off the hardstanding in a motorhome. Despite parking as advised we had major problems vacating our pitch. In our case it took 8 attempts before we were successful and that was despite having trackmats to put down on the wet grass. We left a number of ruts in the grass and the two we left when we were finally successful were 6 inches deep. At one point I did not think we would make it. With the wet winters we are regularly having the grass access is not a wise idea and it does not serve any useful purpose that I could work out. Nevertheless this is a great site, removing the grass access to the hardstandings would make it an excellent site.

Fantastic Site !

This must be one of the best located Caravan Club sites in the UK. Situated overlooking the North sea and St Mary's Lighthouse, it's a lovely spot. The site overall is quite sloping but the majority of hardstandings are 'fairly' level, the toilet & shower facilities are immaculate and the wardens were very friendly. There is a footpath / cycleway running alongside the site which gives easy access to Whitley Bay, Seaton Sluice & Blyth and when the tides out you can access St Mary's Island and watch all of the seals basking on the rocks. There is also a 'strange kind of pub' situated at the site entrance (i'll let you be the judge on that one !) all in all great place and will definitely return.

Nice location spoilt only by the weather

We stayed at this site weekend 4th Nov - 7th. Have used this site before a few years ago, love the location the views are great, good for walking and cycling unfortunatly the weather over this weekend was awful, Friday night gale force winds and horizontal rain. The site was already suffering from soggy, wet and muddy grass in front of the pitches so with the added rain, conditions getting off the site were difficult. This site would benefit from an upgrade by removing the grass in front of the pitches and putting down more gravel, this would greatly improve access to the pitches and extend the period the site could stay open. The only thing that spolit our stay here (other than the weather) was the male warden, a bit of a jobsworth. A letter of complaint will be sent to the club.
