Tired toilet block, cracked sink at urinals, no toilet paper in any of the cubicles, not enough facilities for the size of site. There is also a horrible fishy smell around the dishwashing area, who knows how bad it is when the sun shines.
Pre Easter break.
We have just returned from this site.the shower block is very clean and warm, two criticisms, small showers,I am average build and found them tight as the shower curtains keep clinging to you as you shower also more hooks please.grass was a bit long too,but as it was dry didn't affect Us. Walk the coast path to Cullercoats and on to Tynemouth nicer than Whitley Bay.also walk the other way th Blythe along the beach very good.catch bus back to site which also goes to Newcastle in 45 minutes.
Great Place to Be!
Old Hartley is in a perfect location for walking, cycling, bus travel and Metro train. The site itself is spotlessly clean and the facilities are of the highest standard. Our wardens were always helpful, always approachable and friendly. This was our first visit, but we will certainly return in the future. Highly recommended - particularly for motorhomers.

Old hartley 4/4/17
This site is in a lovely position, staff on this occasion were very friendly and welcoming.
The gents showers had tiles missing on all 3 cubicles which is disappointing considering the site has just opened after the winter break. The hand drier in the gents PAT test certificate was out of date and the hand wash sink was cracked. The disabled toilet was locked requiring the key to be obtained from the staff, at other sites the disabled toilet doubles as a unisex toilet when cleaning is taking place and is usually signed as such.
Our visit was 4/4/117 -10/4/17.

Great site.
A very warm welcome on arrival, by a lovely couple who run the site.
Nice tidy site, good facilities and great views. Plenty of sloping pitches but it's no hardship levelling.
Great bus service close by, 30 mins into Newcastle.
Nice walks either way along the cliff top.
Outstanding site with very friendly staff and a great chippy down the road.
First time at this site and would definitely be back. The site is well kept and the staff only to happy to help.
There is a limit to length of your caravan (8m) so the computer booking won't let you book, but if you phone up the site they will be a bit more flexible 🤗
The site is a NO awning site but don't let that put you off. The uninterrupted view well worth it.
Enjoy 👍👍👍

Motorhome Heaven
The many references to sloping pitches had put us off booking this site as we have found that levelling a motorhome is more difficult than a caravan. However I viewed a video of the site on the internet recorded by a member and noticed that there were a number of motorhomes on the site so decided to give it go and so pleased we did. We had a great welcome by the friendly, helpful warden who assured us there were a number of flat pitches. We found a completely flat pitch with fabulous views up and down the coast. The site has access to the coast path and we walked in both directions with my husband also cycling some of the many local cycle routes. There is a very regular bus service nearby with buses going into Whitley bay and then on to Newcastle. We went into Newcastle using our bus passes and really enjoyedthe city ,walking down to the waterfront having a drink and then lunch.Whitley Bay is run down in places but appears to be in the process of major improvements. We walked into Cullercoates from Whitley bay which is picturesque and there are some nice coffee shops overlooking the bay. We caught a bus to Tynmouth which has a ruined castle and is more upmarket than Whitley bay with coastal walks and walks up river. We had a fabulous time and never needed to move the motorhome. The site was very kept with clean showers and toilets.
Beautiful Site
We intended to stay for one night on this our first visit, but found the sea views and walks nearby to be so enjoyable we couldn't resist staying another night. Facilities were spotless, the site was peaceful, the views uplifting - what more could we ask?
Information was available to drive to supermarkets in nearby towns but we found a Co-op and a Premier shop just ten minutes walk away.
We have added this site now to our list of favourites.
Great Site 31 March 2017 - 5 nights.
All i can say is brilliant, great views, perfect for walking, and the wardens were nice and friendly.
We had the dog with us and she enjoyed the great cliff top walks and the trips to the Delaval Arms which is a short walk out of the site and dog friendly. We will be going back - Enjoyed it!

Wonderfull views out to sea
Lovely site, and well maintained. The views here are stunning out to sea and along to St Mary,s Lighthouse and Whitley Bay. Wardens were incredibly friendly and helpful and the toilets and showers facilities were well looked after We will definitely use this location again in the future.
