This always used to be one of our favourite sites but when we went two years ago it appeared run down and the wardens were not the most friendly. Suffering from withdrawals symptoms we decided to give it another try last week and we wish we hadn't left it so long. The hard standing pitches had been weeded, the service points were spotless and the current wardens very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back next season.
Great, shame about members driving skills
All great. Clean, good friendly wardens and excellent location. Despite wardens starting on arrival to stay in 1st gear it was soon apparent that many members must drive automatics. Otherwise there is no explanation for many, perhaps most driving far too fast. Why!? Slow down, you are on holiday.
fantastic site
First time at this site (21/10 to 30/10) apart from the amount of falling leaves not a problem. The lack of facilities does not bother us, we have all we need in the van, just a pity its not open all year. Very quiet and ideally laid out, the wardens were very helpful and always busy, plus 2 super dog walks from the site. Close enough to Whitby and a number of other coastal towns and villages. Definitely on the list of revisits.
Another Favourite Site to add to our list
First time at this site 23/10-26/10 and it has gone straight onto our list of favourite sites.
When we want a short week-end it's just down the road an hour FAB. The wardens were very friendly and helpful, the site nice and clean, the facilities near to hand. I like the fact that it's all hardstanding, a really lovely site, peaceful and quiet with lots of trees, the dogs thought they were in seventh heaven. I am not bothered by the lack of toilet and shower blocks, in fact I prefer the sites without them. There is lots to do and see near by and I can certainly recommend the Falling Foss Cafe at the bottom of the hill. Pity the site is not open all year I would have thought that with it all being hard standing that would not have been a problem but we will be back again. Janice and Phil.
Another Gem of a site
Even with no loo block there aren't any negatives that i can think of. Serenely peaceful and a very warm welcome from the wardens await you. Despite the seasonal leaf drop nicely looked after witha great show of assorted fungi. Only possible criticism is it isn't open all year. Plenty to see in the area and autumn is a beautiful time to be here. We'll be back.
Peace and Tranquility
Although there are no toilet or shower blocks this site has to be rated as one of the best, the site is well layed out,the scenery and local surroundings are stunning, especially this time of year, there are two very large dog walks on site,or you can walk out the site straight unto the moors, and walk for miles,Whitby is a few miles down the road, and i had no problems parking the motorhome there.
Peace and quiet but plenty to do
Over the years we have been regular visitors to this site, peace and quiet but plenty to do, Although there is no toilet block here it is clean and well kept, plenty of places to visit eg Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay are two of the favourites, We regular visit Pickering while staying here, this last visit 17th 18th 19th Oct was the annual Pickering War Weekend, absolutely brilliant go online and read about it and get booked in for next year, Well recommended, More information from the Caravan Club about this event would be appreciated, we met two couples staying on the site who was upset because they missed the event because they just didn't know it was happening. However this is a great place to stay and you could stay for a couple of weeks and find something to do or somewhere to visit every day, we will be back again next year. Hey Ho Happy Caravanning Terry and Jill
one of our favourites!
As the title states this is one of our favourite sites. We have been here many times and always enjoyed the visit. Lots of wonderful walking nearby & only a short drive to the coast. Facilities are basic but what a wonderful place to be. We like being there early & late in the year, wish it was open longer.
More North York Moors Please
Fantastic site and the views of the Moors were breathtaking. We took our two Granddaughters (18 months and 35 months) and they loved helping to take the dogs for a walk and crazy golf was a big hit. The wardens were fantastic, helpful and friendly too. We stayed for 4 nights the second week of September and tried to pack in as much as we could visiting all the wonderful towns and villages as well as exploring the Moors. We will be booking to go back in 2016 as we ran out of time. We would fully recommend this site 10 out of 10.
Yorkshire Gem
Just returned from this site, stayed for five nights and I have to rate it first class. The wardens were very friendly and helpful and they keep the site immaculate. There are two brilliant on-site dog walks with bins provided for the poo-bags although a certain few didn`t bother to pick up (you know who you are). Plenty to do and see with nowhere too far away. Although we didn`t use it the chip van duly arrived and was quite busy. Regarding comments about there being no toilet block, that is the best thing as this is why the site prices are more affordable and if your caravan / motorhome has the facilities why not use them? Altogether a lovely holiday at a lovely place, definitely recommend.
