Pleasantly Surprised

I was visiting family in the area for Easter and decided to stay at Morn Hill. The location is ideal, very close to the motorway network for those of us who prefer not to tow for miles around country lanes. The site is well maintained, and the welcome very friendly. The facilities are clean but do seriously need an update. The 2 showers in the top field are inadequate for around 50 pitches. Having said that, I only had to wait once for a shower to become available. I suspect most people must use their own facilities having read the reviews on here. The showers are also very small, with curtains that stick to your body as soon as you get in. I did not have an issue with road noise as I chose a pitch furthest away from the A31. Perhaps those people who complain about noise from birds need to find another leisure pursuit! All in all a very pleasant stay - hope the lease gets sorted out in order to allow further investment from the Club. This site, with improved facilities, would be great.

IGNORE OTHER MOANING REVIEWS, THIS SITE IS LOVELY!!

Having just returned from Morn Hill after a delightful 6 night stay, I would like to say 'do not listen to all the moaning and whinging of others on these reviews'. My family and I had an absolutely wonderful time here, first off the wardens are lovely, helpful and attentive, brilliant with the children, (thanks wardens for the use of the donut). The site itself is really well kept, beautifully mown grass, pitches are a great size and contrary to popular belief is easy to find. (You should always Google street view before travelling as a matter of course) with regard to the 'crows' oh come on! PLEASE NOTE This site is in the countryside! Next people will complain about the tractors ploughing fields. As for the road noise, we live in deepest Devonshire and are used to not seeing any traffic, and staying here never bothered us, in fact having a main road near by is actually a bonus as you have less travelling to and fro. Finally to biggest 'moan' the shower block, we stayed in the bottom field so can only comment on that one, but our biggest criteria is that the facilities are clean, which they are, spotless in fact. Who cares if they are 50years old as long as they work and are clean surely that is what matters. Bearing in mind most units have a bathroom if the facilities are not up to your standard, use your onboard ones and leave the showers for us unfussy types. To be fair there was a boiler problem but that can happen to any of us at anytime and the wardens were aware and it was in hand. So summing up, brill site fantastic wardens, clean, friendly easy access to surrounding areas. So don't be a sheep, ignore the moaners and trip advisers, make your own mind up, give it a go, you will love it here.

Good site for long weekend to rest and relax

We stayed here 7 - 11 April, as our first trip of the season. We didn't want to travel too far on this first outing of season, so Morn Hill only being 45 mins from home was ideal. First time at this site, but we were relatively pleased. Site is spread over 4 levels. We picked our pitch on 2nd level down as it as closer to the on site dog walk. Grounds are kept neat and tidy, but facilities blocks are not as good as other CC sites we have stayed at. Wardens were very welcoming and friendly. Site can be a little noisy at times, with the nearby main road (A31) and crows nesting in a nearby tree, but apart from this site is relatively peaceful. Ideally located near Winchester and St Catherine's Hill (great for walks with or without dogs, so good for our dogs), both only 3 miles from site. Would come again for long weekends for rest and relaxation.

What a letdown

A new season and excited about our first outing, we chose Morn Hill for its convenience to Winchester and lovely countryside. How disappointing. The club have been reluctant to spend any money upgrading the shower block facilities on the site for several years now apparently due to their inability to obtain a longer lease. However, with the site pretty busy during the first week of the season, there doesn’t seem to be any justification for the poor standard of the facility and what appears to be a complete lack of any maintenance during the closed season. The two miserable showers offered in the top block are commented upon in other reviews already submitted this season but what is unacceptable on the third day of the site opening for the new season, is broken floor tiles with pieces missing in one shower and an obvious gap along the full length of the second shower base, the base obviously having settled, not forgetting that one of the two showers was out of use on our arrival, I also understand that the floor tiles in one of the ladies shower cubicles are loose. These unhygienic floor areas should have been rectified out of season. In the tight space offered in the shower cubical I accidentally caught the temperature gauge and was immediately drenched with near boiling water, is it legal to have shower valves without a temperature limiter these days? What if an unsuspecting youngster does the same thing without the knowledge of what had happened? In the bottom field toilet block there was no hot water on the occasion I went down there. I was told that the temperature on the shower valves needed adjusting but as there was no hot water in any of the sink taps either who knows!!. Bazer

On Route

We only stayed one night on our way to Salisbury. We have stayed on the site before about four years ago and the first initial appearance has changed since then. The entrance was a bit confusing coming off the roundabout as one of the other roads coming onto the roundabout had been coned off. The site is divided in two areas, a lower and upper site. We were sited on the upper field where the reception is. The toilets were clean but were looking a bit tired. Nothing a drop of paint and sealant would help. The wardens were very friendly and helpful. Good stop over for Southampton, IOW etc

Stopover.

Lovely welcome from wardens.Had stayed here previously so knew how to get bus into Winchester where we had a lovely meal in Cote.Toilet facilities very dated/tired but this was outweighed by the ease of access to the road to Portsmouth for our late morning sailing to Bilbao.

Shortened stay

The theives who stole our brand new quad bike £8000.00 and boat engine £500.00 probably enjoyed it more than we did unfortunately

Ferry stopover

Handy for Portsmouth ferries, this site is a little tired in places but kept very clean. It would have been handy to have had our own card for entry (we arrived at 7.30 pm for one night), so we could get in and out without disturbing wardens, however, we were greeted warmly by the new site managers who were very helpful. For those who arrive after a very long ferry crossing, it may be useful to offer an information sheet on where to shop or eat (particularly if they arrive in the evening). If we travel that way again, we will definitely book a pitch.

Great place, great staff, tired facilities

I so much want to write positive comments - the staff are fantastic, the location is ideal for Winchester and Hampshire - that I'm going to be quite dissappointed in myself that I have to be overall quite negative. I understand that the club wants to obtain a long lease or buy the site before committing to a major spend but the facilities can only be described as tired. The showers almost provide a fitting allegory; they are spotlessly clean, the water pressure and temperature are fantastic, but there's only 2 of them and the cubicle is so small the shower curtain sticks to your back. In fact I found it impossible to get dressed in them and had to make myself decent and decamp to a wash basin cubicle to finish - noting that as I did, out of season and midweek, there was already a queue. So will we be back? Yes, as there's so much to do in the area, but not in season and never at at weekend.
