Dissapointing Numbers of Showers

Morn Hill is a very well kept site and the wardens are all to be commended for keeping it so good. We last stayed here was in 1981 before the lower site was built, however not much in the upper site has changed in the last 36 years. We pitched near the main road and whilst there was some road noise it did not cause us a problem and in any case we were warned about it before we arrived in the Club Site Book. The real problem with this site are the Toilets Blocks which are far too small for the amount of pitches, not only too small but the showers are the smallest that we have ever seen on a Club Site. Morn Hill is in a super location with wonderful country all around but the site needs to be updated and it is obvious that very little has been spent here for some considerable time. Come on Club you keep telling us how much you spend updating Club Sites but you must have overlooked this one completely. The entrance needs up dating with newer, clear signs

I would recommend

A lovely clean site, very kind and accommodating wardens. They were very patient with our kids (3 year old twins plus 6 year old) even though this is not really a site geared to kids (no playground). But we knew that when we booked. A nice atmosphere. Quiet and friendly. The showers etc nice and clean but to be honest they need at least 2 more showers in the ladies to cope. A little road noise but not bad. We used as we were attending a Festival nearby, it was perfect and nice and close to Winchester (beautiful town). My only gripe is the signage off the roundabout. It's awful, satnav takes you on down the dual carriageway and with a van on its awkward to turn round. The sign is old and faded and not easily visible. We had visitors who also got badly lost! (My in-laws, I thought divorce may be imminent by the time they finally arrived!). I would recommend, however!!

Lovely well kept site

Lovely well kept site. Easy access but watch out for the entrance on the roundabout as it could be easily missed. One criticism is the toilets/showers which need refurbishment. We would stay here again.

Another great visit

This is a return visit and we continue to enjoy this site. There is a small amount of road noise and the shower blocks could do with an update but the situation is lovely and pitches are spacious. Wardens were friendly and the delivered-to-your-pitch pizza tasty. We shall be back next year!

Boom Town warning

This site is superbly placed for visiting Winchester with its many attractions. We particularly appreciated the lovely hot water at the washing-up sinks as our water heater decided to fail during our stay! The downside, as others have mentioned, is that there is quite a lot of road noise. We stayed in August and it happened that our stay coincided with Boom Town Festival. The first we knew about it was on the approach road where there were signs warning of traffic congestion, and we expected that our stay was going to be spoilt by noise and traffic jams. Surprisingly there was very little noise from the festival and we were able to choose our sightseeing to avoid the arrival and departure traffic jams. With reports of nine hour queues to get into the festival anyone arriving at Morn Hill on the first day of Boom Town could have been seriously incommoded. On the day of departure the M3 was at a standstill as 60,000 people left the event. If you're planning to visit in August in future years make sure you check the dates of Boom Town to avoid the disruption on the road - and prepare to be stopped by a security man on the approach to the site if you arrive when the festival is already running.

A great base for the area

There is an awful lot in the area to explore - Winchester needs a week on its own. Do the city tours they're brilliant. Lots of other local stuff from Twyford Pumping Station (when open) to Jane Austin House and check out the library museum at the same time - that's well worth it. Watercress line is good for a whole day running up and down. Go a little further afield to Portsmouth - Victory is excellent and Mary Rose (slightly disappointed). Beauleu motor museum. Avebury etc. The site is directly off the roundabout - do not carry on towards Alton. You cannot get away from the noise of the main road. Not as bad further down the site but you can't mask the noisy motor bikes at 3am. Some aircraft noise. We coped. Just seen a comment about road closed signs - that was just for the Boomtown Festival. Massive 60000 people 4 days festival just 1/2 a mile away which surprisingly wasn't as noisy as expected. It's the traffic that was the problem over that weekend - we expected it and kept out of the way. Nice to see that there was 24 hour security on the site for its duration controlling access - although that indicates that there must have been previous problems with "travellers" trying to access the site - but we saw no problems. We were well away before the festival finished. The site is busier at weekends with people using it as an overnight for the ferries but we were their at peak school holiday time and it wasn't full. Overall very good.

Not what we expected

Arrival at this site was difficult because the sign has been covered by a 'road closed' sign which the warden told us they couldn't move and other signs were confusing. The toilet blocks weren't sufficient for the number of pitches, only two showers, and the water went cold for two days in the lower block while we were there. It was disappointing and we wouldn't return.

Short Honest Review

Just moving on after 6 nights here. The site is next to a main road therefore it suffers from traffic noise. It did not affect our sleeping at all but if you like to sit outside in total quiet and hear the birds singing then probably this site is not for you. If you are using it to visit the local area, the road links are very useful. The washroom facilities are insufficient for the number of people on site when at or near full capacity. They are kept very clean by the wardens. This is one of the Caravan Club sites that requires investment in its infrastructure. I think that is probably reflected in the site fees charged. The wardens that I conversed with ( Carole and Geoff) were very pleasant and efficient and went out of their way to assist me. Many thanks. The site has no play area so would not suit families too well. In conclusion, this site is a pleasant place to stay if you don't require silence or have no young children with you. We used it to tour the local area and for this purpose was fine.

Nice site but noisy

Stayed a few nights here last week. The wardens were great- made me feel so welcome and were a fount of information. In general, the club is so lucky with its wardens and those at this site are no exception. Thank you. I knew that there was some road noise from other reviews. I went to what's supposed to be the quietest part but the road noise is just constant- there is no getting away from it. The site itself is beautifully kept but its buildings are looking a bit tired. Again, it's a massive tribute to the work of the wardens that it doesn't look shabby. The site is very easy to get to. If you want to visit the area then it's certainly well worth considering staying on this site- but if you're a light sleeper or want to get away from the sound of traffic then this may not be the site for you. It probably isn't for me.

Good location, nicely presented site, road noise is a shame.

A good location for the wonderful city of Winchester with an excellent bus service to and from the site. A nicely presented site, all grass but excellent quality and well maintained. The issue of dogs not being walked off site is yet again an issue. Dogs are permitted to go to the toilet on the grass and although all was cleared it is not a pleasant site while you are sitting out having a BBQ! The club must address the issue at all sites and either provide a separate area or ask that dogs are exercised off site. Overall a good visit and would return.
