We only stayed one night on our way to Salisbury. We have stayed on the site before about four years ago and the first initial appearance has changed since then. The entrance was a bit confusing coming off the roundabout as one of the other roads coming onto the roundabout had been coned off. The site is divided in two areas, a lower and upper site. We were sited on the upper field where the reception is. The toilets were clean but were looking a bit tired. Nothing a drop of paint and sealant would help. The wardens were very friendly and helpful. Good stop over for Southampton, IOW etc
Stopover.
Lovely welcome from wardens.Had stayed here previously so knew how to get bus into Winchester where we had a lovely meal in Cote.Toilet facilities very dated/tired but this was outweighed by the ease of access to the road to Portsmouth for our late morning sailing to Bilbao.

Shortened stay
The theives who stole our brand new quad bike £8000.00 and boat engine £500.00 probably enjoyed it more than we did unfortunately

Ferry stopover
Handy for Portsmouth ferries, this site is a little tired in places but kept very clean. It would have been handy to have had our own card for entry (we arrived at 7.30 pm for one night), so we could get in and out without disturbing wardens, however, we were greeted warmly by the new site managers who were very helpful.
For those who arrive after a very long ferry crossing, it may be useful to offer an information sheet on where to shop or eat (particularly if they arrive in the evening).
If we travel that way again, we will definitely book a pitch.
Great place, great staff, tired facilities
I so much want to write positive comments - the staff are fantastic, the location is ideal for Winchester and Hampshire - that I'm going to be quite dissappointed in myself that I have to be overall quite negative.
I understand that the club wants to obtain a long lease or buy the site before committing to a major spend but the facilities can only be described as tired. The showers almost provide a fitting allegory; they are spotlessly clean, the water pressure and temperature are fantastic, but there's only 2 of them and the cubicle is so small the shower curtain sticks to your back. In fact I found it impossible to get dressed in them and had to make myself decent and decamp to a wash basin cubicle to finish - noting that as I did, out of season and midweek, there was already a queue.
So will we be back? Yes, as there's so much to do in the area, but not in season and never at at weekend.
Great for a few nights away
We have visited this site numerous times over the past few years.
The staff are friendly and the pitches are well thought out.
I can't comment on the top field washing facilities as we always stay on the lower.
Although the block is dated, its always warm and very clean.
The best part is that the shower is on a flexible hose and can be turned on and left on....none of that push button malarky!
Charming
I stayed here with my two dogs last weekend. It was my first time to take my caravan out, ever, and the staff were welcoming and helpful. The facilities were warm and clean and the dog walk, though small, was safe and dry.
Stop off
We stayed here last year for 3 nights and stayed again this year on our way to the Isle of Wight. I agree with other reviewers the signage is poor and the sat Nav doesn't recognise the entrance so for first timers it is hard to find. The dog walk isn't brilliant but at least you can let them off the lead in safety. I agree about the trees and crows but that's nature. We were in the top field on 19th March and had no trouble with a large van behind a 4x4.
The nights sleep was peaceful and quiet however there's a busy main road nearby. Maybe sound insulation is not so good in snails as in caravans. We also have an on board shower room so cannot comment on the shower facilities.
I felt that for the price the site is fine and when they upgrade I guarantee the price will rise. We are on another site now fully serviced with good facilities but costs 60% more per night.
As is usual in this world you get what you pay for so don't be surprised by what you find for such a reasonable price BE REALISTIC.
not a happy site......
I wanted to visit Winchester Town and this site is very convenient for it. The bus stop is located a 10 minute walk away and that is what is good about the site.
It is located ON THE ROUNDABOUT, the small exit off the roundabout is very hard to find especially in a Motorhome and I ended up going up the main Arlesford Road like many other outfits I saw and the Sat Nav turning me back....
Once the site is found then it is obvious.
I arrived in March and it had been relatively dry, however at reception I was given a very 'hard sell' to buy some traction mats for my Motorhome, otherwise 'our tractor is not big enough to pull you out when you get stuck', it is all grass. So I bought a set of Traction mats for £16.50 from the reception. I could not pay by card, I had to pay cash(?) I later found out you can buy exactly the same mats 'Mega Grip' Traction grip mats for £10.45 on E bay. I was not impressed as I did not need the mats at all. Yes they may come in handy later but I would rather not have been panicked into buying them.....
The Dog Walk is dreadful. It is a narrow strip of land under 6 large trees. The top of these trees are home to about 50 Crows. 25 nests and 25 sets of nesting Crows, the resulting deposits from their backsides means you have to dodge the droppings as they drop....a disposable Kagool would be advisable. Then at 5am they Crows 'kickoff' their raucous noise was horrendous, what with that and the noise from the traffic on the roads made this a very unpleasant stay.
As for the showers....well as previously commented upon, I could not bend over to take my socks off without my rear end meeting the door, I could not open or shut the door without stepping into the shower tray, there is not bench and everything gets wet.....the heating was off in the evening and blasting out during the day.......
the only good thing is the South Downs Way access is nest to the Science Centre in a well hidden path just to the right of the Science building......however only this is reached by walking alongside a very busy A road my ......
