This was our first visit here ( we stayed Friday and Saturday nights) and we would certainly come back. The site is well laid out and we chose a pitch away from the immediate noise of the A1 and it was nice and peaceful. The pitches in our area were gravel ones and very spacious. You can go for a walk around the lakes and see the ducks and also the rabbits. Our toilet block only had one pot wash sink and a site this big should have at least 3. There could also be more showers. The wardens were all very friendly and we had a lovely relaxing time. Newark exceeded our expectations and is definitely worth a visit.

A little gem
Stayed overnight here on our way up to Northumberland and what a find. Although it is close to the A1 do not be put off. We hardly heard any noise. Lucky to get a pitch by the lake and spent an idyllic evening watching the fishermen. Would definitely come back as the area has a lot to offer. An excellent site

Mixed feelings
Just a brief resume as a lot has been posted before, for us as a family of 2 adults and teenage daughter the site was really good, clean facilities, great friendly wardens. We really prefer the grass pitches over the gravel ones, good dog walks and plenty to do in the area for us all...Rufford, Southwell, Newark. Now for the negatives, and these are pertinent to us and may not apply to all....the road noise, it has been said before and yes, it is noticeable day and through the night, dogs.... 3 dogs off leads came over to our dog who is kept on a lead and "had a go" at him, plenty of signs requesting dogs kept on leads all around the site, Why have regulations if they are not enforced.?
This was our 1st visit and whilst I can't say it will be our last it was soured by the road noise and irresponsible dog owners, sorry but thats how it is.
Peaceful site
Well laid out site all pitches level, facilities and staff as good as any we have visited. Layout of pitches excellent all being large and secluded by hedging apart from the central grass area. If you want peace and quiet this site is ideal with the option for casual fishing, although water levels were low. There is noise from the A1 but it does not really disturb you. Good bus connections for the motorcaravanner.
Ideal Location on A1
We booked our pitch midway through Easter Sunday due to a late change in travel plans. The staff were kind enough to provide a 'late arrivals' pitch with hard standing and electric for the same evening. On arrival we found the site to be full with the exception or our reserved pitch.
The site is extremely well kept with a combination of gravel and grass pitches, two shower blocks, very clean and warm with multiple service points. The grounds are lovely with scenic ponds at walk around. Similarly, all the staff were very friendly and helpful. Previous reviews have highlighted the sound from the A1, personally, this was not really an issue. It was noticeable on arrival however did not spoil what was a pleasant evening stay.
Would I recommend? Most certainly.
Excellent but..............
Beautifully laid out site with some pitches set around two small fishing lakes. The overall tidiness – manicured grass areas, flowers and shrubs are all evidence of the pride the wardens have in this site. The toilet blocks are similarly immaculate in their appearance.
There is a good level of security with automatic barriers protecting both entry and exit and, ample service points laid out at strategic points around the site.
Indeed, there is very little cause for any criticism of this site ……….. with one major exception. The noise from the adjacent A1 is horrendous. The site is only separated from this major road by an earth bank and the traffic thundering past – all day and all night, in our opinion, was dreadful.
However, we live in the countryside where the noisiest part of our day is the dawn chorus – so for us, it was unbearable but chatting with a fellow camper who lived under the Heathrow flight-path – it didn’t bother him in the slightest!
Each to their own, I suppose, but as nice as the site itself was, we won’t be visiting again.
Welcome haven with excellent staff and facilities
We booked in for one night only because we were visiting our daughter and nearby Clumber was full. What a stroke of luck that was! Milestone is so easy to get to it's ridiculous, and therein lies one of its strengths, a little haven with easy access to the A1 and a perfect base to either stop over or explore the whole area. Yes, Internet pictures looked inviting but the site was much much better in reality. It's immaculate, laid out perfectly with the cleanest shower blocks we've ever seen. Pitches are well laid out and easily defined, and interesting - we get tired of the regimented layout on most Caravan Club sites but this was not an issue here. We were lucky to pitch up beside the lake and saw a wide range of birds doing their thing along with folk fishing. All facilities are easy to access, in perfect working order and snipping clean. But none of these are the sites best feature. Quite simply, the staff are excellent! From start to finish they were friendly, approachable, helpful and incredibly easy to get on with. In fact, most Club sites we've visited could learn a thing or two from Milestone. We really weren't expecting an affiliated site to be as good as a club site, but found it better in most respects. Will we return! Absolutely! Would we stay for more than a night? Damn right we will! Do we recommend the site? Without any hesitation whatsoever. So, what's the catch? Well, there isn't one, although we have marked the site down slightly because, if you stop to listen, there's background noise from the A1. But this had to be pointed out to me and, do you know, it didn't spoil our enjoyment of the site one little bit. So, an unexpected but welcome gem, one we'll use again for sure. Well done that team!
First visit
As a result of the wet weather we decided to look for reasonably priced sites with hard standing that wasn't too far from home and plumped for Milestone.
Turns out we made a good choice.
Check in was very easy and the 2 reception staff were very helpful and friendly. The site is very clean and well landscaped, I imagine it looks even better on sunny days. The 2 toilet blocks are well heated and also kept clean. I don't know how busy they would get in summer but the site was pretty full when we was there and I never had to queue for showers etc. (2 showers per block)
As close to the A1 as we was the noise was minimal.
All in all a very pleasant short break.
