Later than planned arrival

We were coming up from deepest Sth Wales and the traffic wasn’t very friendly. I rang early afternoon to advise of our possible late arrival and spoke with Carol. She was very warm, friendly and understanding. I rang again at Newark, so close but so far, and Carol answered. Again, a warm and friendly response. On arrival, she couldn’t be more welcoming and very understanding. Arriving at dusk we couldn’t see a great deal of the campsite, but what we saw was immaculate. We cannot thank Carol enough for her understanding, thank you.

Three nights in July

Great staff, good clean facilities, great piches. Pleasant landscaped lakes with lots of friendly geese. Excellent brewery next door with different food concessions most days. Be aware that some pitches suffer a bit from traffic noise from the A1 (ours did not) and you need quality metal pegs on the hardstands. We had a problem with our car that delayed our departure, but the staff were very helpful and understanding. We will be back!

Two Visits, More to Come

We went to this site as a stopover there and back on our trip to Scotland, we have used Clumber Park in the past but it's closed for refurbishment, I have to say CP will have to look to it's laurel in the future. We thought the site was superb, well kept clean and tidy and the lakes were a lovely setting just to walk around. Looking at the things to do in the area could easily keep us busy for another week, especially finding the brewery next door, within walking distance what more could one ask for. Our thanks go to the reception staff who were most kind and helpful when we had to change our date on the way back. Here's to the next time.

Overnight stop

Excellent site. Lovely tidy gardens and lake. Nice walk around the site. Very easy to drive to being just off the A1, but being so close to a major road obviously means traffic noise. However an lovely place to break the journey.

Over night stop

Lovely clean and tidy site. Great location, ideal just off the A1. Easy to book, good pre-trip communication. Friendly welcome from wardens on arrival. Will definitely recommend and use again.

Better than just an overnight stop

Stayed for 1 night en route A1(M) southbound. Not our first visit and very happy to return. Ideally located for those transiting the A1 in either direction; however the down-side is that there is a 4 lane motorway nearby which will obviously attract some road noise, which is supressed by a high embankment. Access is excellent from both directions. New arrival and reception area is smart, tidy and spacious. Check in was very simple; staff always friendly, polite and smiling. The site is in a small parkland setting, with fishing lakes, pegodas, pretty and interesting planted areas and plenty of places to wander around or sit on a bench. This is not a field with pitches and pegs! There is no free run dog area within the park but there are plenty of designated dog walks on site and beyond the boundary, a gate to the Carp Fishery and other walks into the countryside where dogs can roam free. Facilities are clean, tidy and plentiful. One small negative is the push button shower and separate payment for use of the hairdryer. The location has been improved with the opening of the Milestone Tap Brewery, literally next door, which offers great street food dining in the evenings and a great choice of drinks. This was very popular so booking is advised. The Brewery and walks sum up the local area; there is not much else apart from a garage selling basic items and a very limited bus service to take you into Grantham/Lincoln. We like this site and have already re-booked for a few days, not just a stop over.

Disappointment

We have just had 3 nights at this site, came home yesterday 13th June, according to the government website all shower blocks are now open at all campsites. When we checked in we were told the showers are closed, because every time someone used the shower it had to be cleaned ??? We were not told this when we booked and the 3 days we had there were very hot. The wash cubicles are open so no privacy at all. There was no signs about wearing face masks, no one was wearing face masks in the toilet blocks and a severe lack of hand sanitizer around the site. Not impressed at all so will not be visiting again.

Pretty but sadly not practical....

Very well manicured site. Massive new reception and recently resurfaced driveways. However, very noisy , as could be anticipated being so close to the A1....fair enough. Cool response at reception where we informed that there were no showers open, due to government regulations!! Had recently been to other C&M sites where all facilities were accessible. When I made reference to this a sheet of paper was waved at me with highlighted paragraphs....."we don't have the staff to clean showers....." Strangely enough there was a heated shower for your muddy pooch....hubby came close to using said shower after his run. Not enough facilities even when all open in my opinion.....80 pitches in all and only 12 loos and 8 showers apart from disabled and child friendly, if I am correct. No private washing cubicles either. Relatively small grass pitches....we were in a small van with awning... fortunately no car as our neighbours had to squeeze in next to us due folk the otherwise being a little greedy!! Fab microbrewery next door, with different food vans most evenings. Easy access to Newark. Petrol station for your bread and milk and an American Diner. We met a lovely young family who were camped next to us. Pretty scuppered if you need public transport. Not our best experience with C&M. Shame really.

Well maintained site

Milestone is a lovely, well maintained site with fishing lakes and good dog walking. In our opinion it is one of the best kept sites on the CMC network (affiliated). Unfortunately, it is adjacent to, with very easy access from the busy A1 so does get a lot of traffic noise day & night. We were on a grass pitch which was well drained and level. The pitches did seem smaller than many CMC sites with barely room for a car, caravan and large awning. There is a great micro-brewery next door which has a lovely outside seating area and serves a range of very moreish brews. There are no shops (apart from a petrol station) within walking distance but the town of Newark is only a short drive, where there are plenty of shops & supermarkets.

Nice site but not quiet

Had a frosty greeting as I received an email telling me I’d receive a call the day before our arrival to take payment over the phone and when you arrive to stay in your car. Never received a call and we stayed in the car for 10 minutes then eventually went in to reception, said I was told to stay in the car and the response was “I’ve been in and out all day n I’m fed up”. Wow. The lady said did you not read your email? I said yes I did thank you and it told me to stay in the car! The site is pretty good. Very clean and tidy and well looked after. Facilities were good, even though not all were open due to Corvid. The site is NOT peaceful, it’s a stones throw from the busy A1 so there is a constant buzz of cars and lorries passing. You are allocated a pitch which was ok for us as we got a relatively good spot but their did seem to be some pitches outside of the barriers? So their not actually on site inside the security barrier but outside.
