Lovely Site

What a find! As you approach the site down the narrow lane, it opens out into a large and spacious field. Our first time here, but it will not be the last as it is convenient for visits to Truro and St Austell plus all the other tourist places in West Cornwall are about an hour's car ride away. But I could not believe just how empty the site was considering that it was the first week of the school holiday. Members, you are missing out!

Superb Site & Location

Just come back from a week break at one of our favourite sites which we have visited on numerous occasions, usually in the summer when it gets very busy. It was great to be spoilt for choice of what pitch to have. The site and facilities as always was spotless. We love the area for it's numerous walks with our dog from off & around the site. On one of our walks around the Percuil River close to St Mawes we came across a bottle nosed dolphin washed up on the river bank of which was still alive but very dry. I managed to put it back into the water and after a few minuets thinking it wasn't going to survive it swam off at speed and jumped out of the water in front of us. What a fantastic feeling which made our holiday that bit more special. Looking forward to my return probably late in the season or spring again next year, we'll give the summer a miss this time as it gets too busy now for us although it's comical watching frantic new visitors rushing to get the best pitch. (especially as the 12:00 arrival rule gets abused)

Lovely site

This is an excellent very well maintained site with friendly staff and a good on site shop. We were there in March and it was a bit windy that weekend but nothing too serious. Bus stop outside got you to St Mawes one way and Truro the other which was great. Nice walks lovely sunset first rate toilets traffic lights on the narrow road in what more could you want? Will definately go back.

Gem of a site!

I visited Merrose in mid March 2017. The site was in pristine condition and looked a picture. The wardens were friendly and knowledgable and there is a well stocked shop. There is a great play area and I will look forward to returning with grandchildren. The coast path is a fifteen minute walk away with tremendous views and access to lovely beaches and the pretty village of Portscatho. Don't miss the Hidden Hut for great food right on the cliff top. All in all a great short stay!

Very mixed feelings.

Stayed for three weeks in July. Site very busy and always full.

Firstly the good, this is a beautiful site, well maintained, spotless facilities and a decent enough shop. However- We abide by the rules and it states "strictly no entry before 1200hrs". We, being early waited in a layby to await the time, and noticed umpteen caravans and motorhomes hurtling past us towards the site. Of course on arrival, these people were halfway through putting awnings up, so the rule is basically ignored. The reason we followed it was that we had asked in advance if early arrival was possible and were told in no uncertain terms that the rule was rigid. On arrival we found the wardens harassed and two of them very unhelpful, other two were lovely. Asked what pitches were free, was told to drive around and find one (although the tag system employed could have given this info very easily), this led to utter chaos as everybody was doing the same and ignoring the one way system. One of the wardens blocked access to two pitches as "they were being saved for somebody, funny that, I thought that wasnt possible with the club rules. We were exceptionally lucky and found a massive grass pitch that was lovely. others however were not so lucky. Some were actually driving round for well over an hour and of course getting very frustrated. In some areas there are double rows and some people found it very difficult to access the rear row. Some pitches were so sloping that the jockey wheels had to be removed to get a level, i.e. caravan on its nose. A couple of side-on hard standing pitches were so close to the driveway that the awnings would be brushed by passing wing mirriors. Constant, and I do mean constant noise from mowers and cutters. Aslo was the usual problem of some dog owners not using the designated areas, some even so blatant they used the grass area in front of the wardens office, and of course this went un-challenged. The St Mawes area is gorgeous, but I found we very quickly exhausted the things to do and see, and being on a peninsula ended up driving more miles than I had planned. Still, very nice and a break from our usual West Cornwall. Would I stay again? Definitely not and for the reason being that when it did get busy, you are extremely lucky to get a decent pitch. We were absolutely fine, but only by the grace of god, it could have been so much worse. For us, it is simply not worth the risk. Note to the wardens, try smiling, it costs nothing.

Perfection

Our FOURTH trip to this site this year - even from Newbury it's quite a haul at 250 miles each way - but the very fact that we've returned time and again says a lot. A warden concerned about the messiness of falling leaves and the frustration of trying to keep up with them says even more. A gem of a site....lovely country, near a great beach which is dog-friendly, the regular ferry to Falmouth from St Mawes is perfection, the artichoke and goats cheese pizza at the St Mawes Hotel is to die for, the King Harry ferry is fun, Trelissick Gardens great for its forest walk, dog-friendly bay, and a cracking cup of coffee and food in the NT shop. We just love it here - so much so that we've thought of moving to the area - and a stay at the Merrose Farm site simply makes us wish we'd take the plunge. You must try it!

Cornish Haven

We stopped here in mid-October, our second visit to this site and once again it didn't disappoint.  The site remains a calm, relaxed very clean location.  With the weather turning recently with the colder autumn nights, it was lovely to walk into the shower block and discover total warmth alongside everything working properly and plenty of hot water.   Thanks again for the warm welcome from all the staff!

Love the traffic lights!

We stayed here in mid-October, so the site was quiet - only about 15 caravans/motorhomes. We couldn't find any fault with it at all: it was well laid out, spotlessly clean and well cared for, and the wardens were lovely: very friendly and helpful. The site is down a fairly steep, narrow lane with a bend, so you can't see if any other vehicles are coming up/down, which could be hazardous. But problem solved, there's traffic lights at the top and bottom to ensure your safety. Just brilliant!

Third time this year at this site

I am very lucky Merrose Farm is only about 25 miles from home, so this was my third visit this season. It was really nice to be greeted by the warden team, who recognised me from earlier visits, it made me feel very welcome. As always the site was presented to a very high standard and the facilities were very clean and well presented. It was pleasing to hear how the wardens were keen to ensure that the site was always looking good for guests. The site location is really good easy to walk to Portscatho and other beaches on the Roseland a bus service to St Mawes and Truro, and in autumn quieter roads to get around on. Good to see the minimarket in St Mawes being upgraded making it easier to get supplies. Also most places still open even though it was October, and also some amazing weather, with some days almost like summer, but a bit cooler so better to get around in.

Great Week on a Great Site

We spent a week here returning last Saturday, it was our first time in this area of Cornwall,  a scenic and beautiful part of this lovely County.  Loved the walks on the costal path and can recommend the Hidden Hut on Porthcurnik Beach as a place to stop  for a snack or some excellent soup! Top marks for the site, the wardens worked tirelessly to keep everything in order, well done! We will be back
