Never disappoints

Just left after a wonderful 9 days stay at Merrose Farm and yet again were delighted with our stay. This is the fourth year we have stayed on this site and have never been disappointed - and due to the number of familiar faces from previous years we are not alone. It has to be one of the best maintained sites I've seen, spacious pitches and the wardens work very hard to keep it tidy and well maintained, slightly off the beaten track which for us is perfect, the facilities are good and always clean and tidy. As always the wardens were excellent, making us feel welcome on arrival and always friendly and constantly busy throughout our stay. Pizza van calls one evening and also a highly recommended fish and chip van. The usual bits are available from the site shop and I can recommend the fresh bread rolls, cakes, scones and pasties. If there has to be a negative it would be that the showers could do with a touch more pressure, but they are also clean and well looked after, and absolutely love Radio 2 playing, can sing along in the shower and it discreetly muffles toilet sounds!! Thank you to Macky, Jane, Marianne, Kevin, Mel and Scott - keep up the good work, we will be back again next year.

10 YEARS ON AND OUR EXPERIENCE ON THIS SITE GETS BETTER

Just back from 10 days down at Merrose and yet again were delighted with our stay. The only thing that has ever marred our enjoyment of this excellent and well run site is the weather. This year there were no meteorological complaints! The site was very quiet compared to last year. Quite why this was the case is beyond us as this has got to be the best site we have ever stayed at. As always the warden were excellent, particularly the 2 lead wardens.

Perfect

I guess with all reviews it starts out with what you are expecting and the weather plays a part in your lasting impression. Well we were expecting a site that was quiet and fairly remote with a good area for our small dogs on the site and the ability to walk from the site. In early May the weather was fantastic and we choose pitches in the large open grass area at the top of the site. When we arrived we were the only caravans (travelling with my brother and his caravan) in that area. There's a large play area with loads of equipment which looked great for kids (but we were told on arrival that no kids were booked in for the time of our stay - not that it would have mattered) and a large area at the bottom of the field for kids to play ball games etc. For us the great part was the next, enclosed, field where the dogs could run around without leads. We also took a stunning walk to Pendower Beach (leaflet at reception), with the only "tricky" bit crossing the main road and 20 yds without pavement to the top of the lane opposite (use the grass banking). Within minutes you're on the coastal path (can go either way) with stunning views. Head to Pendower Beach, about 40 min walk, where there is a small cafe and toilets nearby. Try the higher path on the way back as its much flatter (immediately right after joining the footpath from the road up from the beach) and you emerge near the same farm shop you pass when you set off. We visited (and I recommend) St Maws, Mevegissey, Falmouth, and the Lost Gardens of Heligan (I was surprised how interesting this was not being a Gardner - and it's 2 for 1 with caravan club card!) So with lots to do and good walks nearby that just leaves the site. Perfect. Wardens friendly and constantly busy. It has to be one of the best maintained sites I've seen. Facilities were good. Pizza van calls one evening and chip van another. The usual bits are available from the site shop but any other groceries do need a car trip. If you want a spacious well maintained site, slightly off the beaten track with great facilities for your kids or dogs then this has to be near the top of your list. We will return.

Great site apart from the groundskeepers

Firstly, the site is fantastic....very well cared for, clean and tidy. The showers could do with a touch more pressure, but they are also clean and well looked after. Ok, now my one and only complaint! Whilst we were on site we were experiencing car trouble and had to call out the AA, which in turn meant a couple of test drives off site. Whilst driving through the site on one of these runs, I was stopped by one of the groundkeepers because I was speeding....it's a 5mph limit, and I think I was doing 7 or 8, and the reason for this is my car has an automatic clutch, and driving slowly is extremely difficult as the clutch kicks in thinking you are stopping, and then releases again causing the car to bunny hop....I was going as slowly as I possibly could, and I explained this to the gentleman. However, he talked to me like I was a child and said "Well, you have a first gear don't you?" He wasn't even listening to me, and came across as very authoritarian - it's not like I was doing 15 or 20 - I was doing about 2 or 3 mph over the limit and going as slowly as I possibly could - he should have said something like "Ok, I understand, just try to keep it as slow as you can" but instead looked at me like I was filth on the bottom of his shoe and spoke to me like I was a 5 year old! It kinda put a damper on the whole stay to be honest!! I really do not appreciate being spoken to like that!!

Perfect site

We spent a week here with my young family of 2, 4 and 6. The site is immaculate, very well spaced out pitches, fantastic facilities (like a family wash room with half size bath for the kids). Easy to get to to the site, good base for exploring cornwall. On site shop had everything we needed (like bbq supplies and cream teas!), and thursday / friday they had a pizza fan and fish and chip van which was a nice treat. Will definately be going back again next year!

Immaculate site

Lovely open site with an enclosed dog walk. The wardens work hard to keep it in excellent condition. There is a bus stop nearby but we found it easy to park out motorhome in nearby St Mawes. Would definitely revisit.

Best site ever !

Had a weeks stay at Merrose farm site. The best site we have ever stayed at on the Caravan and Motorhome site network. Beautifully kept by the very hard working wardens , grass and hedges cut and trimmed to perfection, toilet block spotless, pitches well spaced out and people respecting your space and pitching with a gap between. Yet wardens still had time to smile and pass the time of day with you and discuss pleasent weather and what's in store for the next few days. Lovely area with so many places to visit, St Mawes, Antony's head and light house, Truro, St Austel and dozens of fabulous beaches. Take a trip on a ferry to Falmouth or visit Eden or Heligan. to much to mention all the places you can go. Make the effort and visit thrRoseland Peninsular you will not be disappointed.

Merrose Farm

This site is on the Roseland peninsular so it's quite a long run to get down there but worth the effort. Very well equipped for families with a good play area and field plus a large secure dog walk. The facility block available for our visit was a little bit tired looking. Old style heavy lids for motorhome waste. The site has a good shop, with food, inc bread and papers to order. Just over the road at Curgurrell Farm is a good shop selling fresh local shell fish, other types of fish plus everything from veg and cheese to wine etc. Past Curgurrell is a short walk down to the coast path. There are many lovely safe sandy beaches in this part of Cornwall, ideal for younger families and anyone who's happy to leave their surf boards behind and enjoy gentler waters. Portscatho is the nearest village with a shop and pub etc. another nice place to relax by the sea. Plenty to do in the area and a two hourly bus service runs past the site between St Mawes and Truro.

Early Season Visit

One of the first guests for 2018 season and the team had clearly worked hard to get the site up to scratch. The recent snow presented a few problems but they coped with it well. Good location for walking coastal path. Would return for another visit.
