Pitch disappointment

We liked the site overall but not the pitch allocated which was No.8.  We felt like we had been put into a car park with 3 other caravan users.  It was solid tarmac in a enclosed/hedged off piece of ground instead of in the caravan community with grass and open space.  When the sun came out we felt as if we could not enjoy ourselves sitting out because we would have had to sit in the road area.  We also witnessed several people coming to the entrance as if it was a exit area to the town.

A Scottish Borders Gem.

This is indeed a gem at the foot of "Trimontium" the roman name for what is now "The Eildon Hills" in Melrose, a quiet peace full site with easy access to shops, good real ale, buses, and now also the borders railway{the old Waverley line}.we visit this site twice a year at Easter and in September, the wardens are always helpful and all facilities are spic and span. Unspoilt area

We wanted to explore the area and chose this site because of its location having usually looked for CL's in the past. We were not disappointed as the site is not too big and well laid out. The staff were friendly and helpful and facilities spotless - lovely hot showers! The trees turned out to be unexpectedly problematic - having chosen a spacious corner pitch we didn't realise that we would be in shade the whole day at this time of year. This meant that our awning didn't dry out and we looked on enviously at others in hot sunshine sipping their drinks outside whilst we had our heating on! We will chalk this up to experience but it's something to bear in mind when choosing a pitch at this site when the sun is low. Our next door neighbours actually moved to get away from the shadows. Ate at the Kings Arms which was excellent value.  Reviewers often make comments about speeds on sites but we noticed a number of dogs barking a lot, spoiling the atmosphere - we loved our dog but didn't allow her to be a nuisance to others. However, we will definitely return as there is so much to explore in the area and would recommend the site unreservedly.

Pleasantly Surprised!

Booked three nights at Melrose to break our journey from the Highlands to Lancashire. We were very pleasantly surprised, lovely site the layout of the pitches is one of the best we have stayed at, although we were lucky not to have to pitch under the dreaded trees, that most CC sites seem to have an abundance of. We did have to listen to the tennis lessons and put up with the floodlights in the early evening, but didn't spoil the peace. Wardens very friendly everything spotless lovely flowers .  Handy for the town , Abbey and lovely walks on the River Tweed.  Ate at the Kings Arms 10% off for CC members, good food and dog friendly. I am sure we will return to this excellent site.

Beautiful Borders

After the drama of our west coast/Highlands route, Melrose came as a distinct, soft border contrast. Neatly laid out, right within the town, the site offers the easiest access to great shopping and delicious food. Our late booking resulted in a stay on the four pitch tarmac section immediately behind reception - utilitarian, but for which we were grateful to the wardens. Reception was efficient, with very helpful staff who manage a well run site. After the calm and tranquillity of the north, the down-side of a town centre site is activity - and for us the civic bottle bank immediately behind the site provided a rather too-early 'bells on Sunday'! Consolation was the opportunity to watch a Saturday match of Melrose RFC v Boroughmuir just across the road, and to eat utterly wonderful steak from butcher, 'Miller of Melrose' (2 High Street).

5 mph

as usual enjoyed our stay at Melrose relief wardens very good. only downer was cars with caravans and cars and motor homes ignoring 5mph sign ( I could only see one 5mph warning sign on site) this is not only a problem at Melrose. throughout our stays this year we have noticed this in all the sites we have stayed.

Excellent site

A first class site. Excellent facilities, friendly helpful wardens, and within minutes of the town of Melrose, which is lovely with it's independent shops and beautiful Abbey. Very impressed - we will be back. Highly recommended.

Beautiful site fantastic

We visited this site 22nd August for 6 nights and we had a fantastic time.  The site is very easy to find in a convienent location, in easy reach of Edinburugh and with easy access from the M6 and A7. The site is a short 2 minute walk away from the picturesque town of Melrose but it is still a peaceful location to park up and stay.  The site is spotlessly clean and the wardens are very helpful, we could not fault any amenities. Cleaning times are between 11am -12pm, so there is no pressure of long queues in a morning.   Melrose is a handy little town with everything you could need, including small supermarkets, shops and fantastic restaurants and cafes.   We will definitely return next year!

Fantastic Wardens!

I returned to this site last week, having been many times before. It is a perfect location, being able to walk into the lovely town of Melrose. The surrounding area is fantastic for walking and cycling, and for visiting all of the interesting scottish border towns. On this occasion, I'd like to make a special mention to the brilliant wardens Linda and John. Not only have they been friendly and welcoming every time I have visited, but on this occasion went the extra mile by helping to ressurect my awning when the high winds took hold at the weekend and rang me to let me know as I was out for the day. I have no hesitation in fully recommending this site. You will not be disappointed!!
