One Night Stay

We found this site very easily however the guide book 2017/18 is incorrect as the signage has changed and we ended up doing a slight detour. We arrived and the pitch we were given was one of two in the same area. This was on tarmac and backed/overlooked onto a council car park with a medical centre on it. It was noisy and not really very private. I feel this should a been a discounted pitch and not happy about the position since we booked very early in the year. However, Melrose itself is a lovely village and has a lot to offer. The facilities are clean and easy accessible.

A great family holiday

We stayed at in late July / early August. Arrival at the site was good, the waiting area is well sign posted although the entry can be a little tight if people are leaving. We were given a choice of three pitches (the site was posted as full) and any of them would have done. The hardstanding pitches are a good size although we had to peg the guy lines of our awning into the grass. There was a lot of heavy rain showers while we were there but the pitches drained quickly. The site is beside the centre of town, right next to a reasonable sized Co-Op supermarket. There are full sized superstores in Galashiels (3.5 miles away). The town itself has a few good hotels and restaurants selling standard pub food. Most had good quality and service. Nobody is going to go hungry staying here. Check out the information room at the site (next to the reception) there are a list of hotels that provide discounts if you produce your C&MC membership card. Melrose Abbey is a must visit attraction. It is a 5 - 10 minute walk from the site. There are three other Abbeys within the local area to visit also. The site facilities are clean and tidy. They are showing there age but as long as everything is cleaned and maintained we have no complaints. The wardens keep the site tidy and the hanging baskets are a nice touch. We did notice the usual speed issues and ignoring the one way system but short of employing a "police" warden what can you do? One issue with the site being close to town is there are nearby houses and some of the dogs in the houses started "conversations" with the dogs on the site. There were a few early rises because of this. We had a great week at the site and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good base to visit the Scottish Borders.

Brilliant site but facilities in need of refurbishment

First stay at this site and was expecting it to be good after reading reviews but it was even better than I thought. The little village and local shops are just outside the gate and all major stores are available in Galashiels just 15 minutes away. The train into Edinburgh from the nearby station is brilliant. Takes you right into the city centre, runs every 30 minutes and is remarkably cheap. The site is very busy and booking well in advance is required in peak season. Some of the pitches are rather compact, I noticed the 'super' pitches particularly, may have super facilities but are not super sized. Many people were swapping pitches during their stay. However it is very quiet and peaceful and I will certainly stay again

Lovely site but too compact

This is a lovely site with clean & tidy facilities and friendly helpful wardens. Ideally close to town especially for motorhome users and with lots to see and do around the area. The only downside as far as we were concerned was there were too many pitches for the size of the site and not enough room between the pitches if you have a fairly large outfit like ours. It was very difficult to reverse onto your pitch without running onto the grass as per the signs and even then we had to do everything at an angle. We do not have a motor mover, neither do we want one as my husband is totally used to handling trailers but maybe a little bit less grass and a bit more available turning space might be an advantage. This is a popular site and seems to be fully booked all the time but the few days we were there was enough when you are squeezed in so tightly.

Very nice site - But !

Just spent 9 nights on site, which as others have stated is very close to Melrose town centre, which has a good range of pubs, restaurants, butchers, bakers, etc The site is very well kept and the wardens are very hard working and friendly, toilet block although clean is now in need of updating. We were on pitch 32 which backs on to the school field and tennis courts - and here lies the problem- when we arrived there was some sort of football tournament taking place on the school field behind our caravan resulting in several wayward footballs being launched over the hedge and bouncing off caravans - also constant noise from the teenagers playing football. After a few quieter days the football returned again with wayward balls hitting people's caravans, to the right of us we had the tennis courts - yes you guessed - tennis balls flying over the hedge towards our caravan - the tennis courts are floodlit, and people were still playing at 11:00 at night. Unfortunately for us this experience spoilt an otherwise excellent site, and we will not return because of it. If you are lucky enough to get a pitch on the opposite site of the site away from the noise and wayward footballs - you would not be disappointed

Brilliant Location

Spent one night here on the way home. As usual facilities spotless but the main feature of this site is its location. Right next door is a large Co Op and around the corner from that you are in Melrose town centre. Lots of sites claim to within 5 mins of shops but this one really is. Try the scotch pie from Alex Dalgetty's bakery and you will not be disappointed. hope to come back for longer but will make sure I book early as the site was full when we were there.

Impressed

We were touring the area in our campervan and came across this site and what a lovely site it was too. Very impressed, very tidy, facilities clean and tidy, plenty of room between each pitch. Nice and quiet. There is a childrens play area which was behind us but that wasn't a problem the children that were on it were playing quietly. Would definitely go back to this site if around the area again.

Ideal location

We come back to this site again and again. The location in the small town of Melrose is ideal. This is a community minded town, there is always something going on. Great walks along the River Tweed. The Borders are a great place to explore. The only minor irritation is that one of the wardens insists on cleaning the roads on site by blowing the dust off them. On a sunny day many of the vans on site have their skylights open and the dust covers everything, it also settles on the windows which are easy to scratch unless cleaned very carefully.
