We stayed on this site twice, excellent location, nice town on the door step, shops hotels bars really well located. Lovely river walks and hill walks. Lovely friendly staff and always willing to help. Well worth a visit, facilities are very good and clean top notch thank you for a lovely stay.
Been here a couple of times, as we live around 50 minutes away, it's ideal for us for a weekend break. Good base for visiting other Border towns/Handy location for a short walk into Melrose and getting 10% discount from two of the hotels for food is a bonus.
This club site is situated in the centre of the lovely village of Melrose with the famous abbey close at hand which is well worth a visit. the village has plenty cafe's and pub's to eat out if you can't be bothered cooking. Although there is a good sized co-op about 100yds from the gate.
The site itself is tidy and well looked after. The wardens are excellent and will help, if like us' you are newbie's.Shower block is clean and tidy.
The only downside we found was that there was some road noise from the by-pass during the day but not at night.
the location is great for exploring the borders, very central, and if you fancy a trip to Edinburgh, the borders railway has a station about 3 miles away.
All in all a nice site in a great area
We have stayed at Melrose several times as we like being able to park up and walk or take local transport. This time we brought our electric bikes. Thanks to a map we got from the bike shop near the Abbey ( was it Abbey Street?). We cycled around this area over our few days here. We needed the electric support but the views made it worth it. A great coffee or lunch stop was the Milestone Garden Centre at St Boswells.
As always we enjoyed the interesting wee shops and nice eateries in Melrose.
A lovely relaxing visit.
A well kept site, helpful and friendly wardens. The toilets were spotless but we had to queue for showers a couple of times.
A great visit, we will be back
Having stayed at this site many times in the past and enjoyed it last weeks visit was a let down. We had the misfortune to pitch backing on to the adjacent playing field ( pitch chosen due to the proximity of the toilet block) and we were very often bothered by footballs coming over the hedge and at one point our car was hit by one! There is a gate into the playing field adjoining pitch 32 which we were on which was used by the ball retrievers despite the fact that it was locked! They would just climb over!
Despite the fact that the toilet block is very " tired " and could do with updating this site, as far as I can tell, is one of the most expensive of the Scottish sites but does not live up to the costs charged.
We will hesitate to visit again unless some method is employed to prevent possible damage to cars and caravans by footballs and the facilities upgraded to warrant the high charges.
Nicely kept, quiet site in the centre of town.
Usual high standard of facilities provided and friendly staff.
Nice walks close by and plenty of choices for food and drink.
In a motorhome it's not often that you get the chance to get yourself settled in then find that you are in centre of a lovely town; what an advantage! Ok, Melrose is not exactly massive...small but perfectly formed, with just the right amount of eaterie pubs, chic little shops and the lovely walk along the river Tweed, a path which actually goes all the way to Stranraer. Being relative newbies we had a couple of potential problems which might have provoked wrath from less patient wardens but nothing was a problem here. We'll be back.
I was keen to visit Melrose again after a break of many years. What a disappointment!
I can best liken it to staying in a gravelled car park. OK, the facilities were all up to the expected standard, the staff were helpful, but somehow it just didn't feel right. One redeeming feature was the number of Wi-fi hotspots, so if you had a BT account, you had free internet.
There is a small, expensive Co-oP at the entrance, and a few shops in town. The Abbey, which I'm sure was once free to visit, now charges £5.50 per adult to wander round the ruins.
Now, I can imagine the site being popular for rugby fans who come to watch the rugby 7's, but I was very surprized to find the site fully booked on a wet midweek in March. Rugby aside, I can't see the attraction of Melrose. Let's just say, it's not my kind of site.
This was my first-ever overnight trip, and I was a bit apprehensive of how I'd get on with my new motorhome (and whether or not the dog would like it!). The site folks made me very welcome and explained things clearly. And others at the site were very kind in helping me out with a few snags I encountered. All in all, very friendly.
The facilities were clean, well-equipped and warm. It's also a well-postioned site for access to walks with the dog (which was why I chose it).
Staff friendly and helpful. My tarp blew dangerously in a strong wind while I was off site. Club volunteers made it safe and pegged it down to protect car from damage. Site staff contacted on mobile phone to advise of the action taken. I was grateful and staff and volunteers so nice. I enjoyed my first trip of season and also liked fact that there was TV aerial link up. Melrose is a lovely place and the site is in the heart of it. would have appreciated a clearer road sign on main street to direct into the site.
