Having read other reviews I thought I would add my thoughts
It’s a nice little site - toilets and showers are clean but showing their age. Noise comments come as your ins town next to a school so playtime is clearly heard but was never really a problem and school hours are not 247
Would I stay again - yes without hesitation- you even have a co-op on your doorstep and Melrose towns lovely shops a minute away.
We had never been to the scottish borders before and found this site very well located We could even walk to the shop CoOp at the top of the road. The river tweed was 3-4 mins away and fab for our Jack Russell who could even have a paddle in the river. We bought a couple of books from the local book shop in Melrose titled paths they had them for the different towns locally and we did a few of the walks. the site is kept very clean and tidy and was very quiet. We will go back
This site has a fabulous location - Co-op next door, 2 mins walk into Melrose, where we tried three of the pubs, with Burts being the best. Tweedbank station is within walking distance for the new service into Edinburgh. It is a short drive to Innerleithen and Glentress for mountain biking. The Borders area is full of good walking.
The pitches were of a good size and flat.
The facilities were at the older end of the Club spectrum, but kept very clean. The motorhome waste point involves a complex reversing manoeuvre if your outlet is on the off side; hopefully previous comments indicating that this will be updated are true
We will visit again for sure
We and a lovely visit to Melrose the site was excellent apart from emptying our grey and water from our motorhome.but the wardens were sympathetic and told us a new drain system will be fitted for next year ideal for people with disabilities that can’t lift the drain cover...apart from that excellent site and will return again ...
As a returning caravanner I obviously appreciate the site despite some short-comings which others have mentioned e.g. rather smelly elsan disposal point, the need to re-furbish the toilet block even though the wardens do a tremendous job keeping it spotlessly clean, refilling soap dispensers and keeping a plentiful supply of toilet paper. The washing-up and laundry facilities again are kept very clean. The wardens greeted us by name, with a friendly smile and nothing was too much trouble. They never appear to stop working or planning and executing their next project.Their local knowledge was very good and we enjoyed the bonus of a half-hour visit from the local pipe band ( in full uniform ) who treated us to a delightful display of playing and marching. During our stay in June we had an opportunity to see approximately 200 horsemen, women and children riding out to mark the town's boundaries- quite a sight ! Many of the Borders towns continue this tradition. The new Co-Op is just five minutes from the site and the remainder of the town, with its independent shops is always worth exploring. The Abbey is always worth a visit and, besides the Rugby 7's there is a very good Book Fair in June.
Will we visit again - absolutely.
Stayed here for a week as the halfway point on our Road Trip. The cost of a week here equalled two weeks on CLs - the chemical "cupboard" was very smelly and the facilities could be upgraded. Directions and access all good although this is a very busy area with the shop car park and parking for adjacent playing fields. So take care on the final approach. The large Co-op on the corner is a real bonus - not far to go for a daily newspaper and a pint of milk. There is road noise from the main road behind the site. Dog walking is good - you can easily get to the riverside - plenty of green space around the site. Melrose is a pleasant town with a variety of shops and eating places - the Abbey is worth a visit. Borders Towns were a disappointment for us - but Kelso is lovely and there is history at Jedburgh as well as the Mill Shops. It's obviously a very popular site so does this justify the cost? Would we come again - probably not, we realise we prefer the value CLs and sites without facilities provide.
Stayed for three nights. Temporary wardens were polite but could not answer a query of mine or sell me a product they stocked - they couldn't find where it was kept. They did manage the site during our stay and kept it clean and tidy. Notices were in abundance, some out of date. It is a busy site. Showers warm enough - we found the toilet block OK.
Site is flat with some hedgerows for the birds. Other than that, it was not much more than a posh car park. Motorhome service point is designed for those with the waste tap on the nearside, otherwise its a reverse in job in an area busy with people. Chemical waste point is in a 'cupboard' and boy, does it smell!
Melrose is a small town with a good Co-op and a ruined Abbey. That's about it. The surrounding area is good for walking whether on the hills or the flat river valley. Two of the local roads were closed for resurfacing which is really needed because some roads were atrocious.
Our favourite club site now and we have been coming here for many years, the wardens and site still excellent, the site is right in the town, next to a good Co-op, good cafes and eateries and a whole day can be spent from the site itself and the site is getting more an more popular each year. A few changes in the town from our last visit in early November. There is a new restaurant very close to the site, literally a few minutes walk, called Provender which got good reviews in the information room and it was very good indeed. It is a little pricier than some but you also get 15% discount with your membership card. Sadly the King's Arm has closed and has been for a while. A few new shops opened and the old Co-op has been taken over by Chest and Heart Scotland charity shop and it's old smaller shop closed. Lots to do in the surrounding area too with larger supermarkets in nearby Galashields. The train from Tweedbank to Edinburgh is very good with free parking. Playground next door, and a tennis club and large playing fields complete the appeal. An excellent site all round.
I have mentioned before that the toilet block is becoming tired. The wardens do a fantastic job, and there is no complaint re cleanliness, but a refurb is needed. Failing that some minor repair work, particularly to the grouting etc would make a difference. Mould on grouting/silicone joints is very unsightly , and probably looks a lot more unhygienic than it is.
However this remains an excellent site in many respects.
Fantastic site location, excellent site, pitch great and level, toilets very clean and warm, all facilities on site are clearly marked and easy to use. Staff on site very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed my stay and would definitely return to this we'll run site. Would recommend to all members and non members.
