First time we have stayed at Meathop Fell and we had a lovely stay. Access was easy once off of motorway but the lane leading up is quite narrow . It was very quiet and peaceful. It had a great dog walk field to take your pooch for a quick walk first thing and before bed time. Toilets as usual were clean and well looked after. The shop had a few groceries which was very handy. Very pleasant friendly staff. The site was very near (3 mile walk) to lovely towns such as Grange over Sands and the Lakes themselves (short car journey). I was also very struck by the beautiful hedgerows on the walk to Grange Over Sands, there were so many wild flowers within them, so pretty. Definitely want to go back again.
One of our favourite sites..superb location
This is the site we’ve visited the most. Easy access off the A590. Yes there is one bad turn going up to the site but we’ve always managed to get round with no issues as the road is very quiet. We’ve stayed on numerous pitches at different times of the year and they have all been great. Toilet block is beautiful, nicest I’ve seen! Great walk into Grange down a quiet road straight outside the site. Grange itself is lovely with shops and cafes. We’ve also cycled from here to Bowness. Would recommend this site to anyone.
Meathop Fell - July 2022
We used this site as a one night stop over and it provided easy access off junction 36 on the M6.
Check-in was easy, and we were happy being pitched in the tarmac area (perhaps not so if we had been staying longer).
Small enclosed dog walk and a larger field available, which was great.
Toilets spotless.
Woodlands Hotel is a 5 minute walk and we booked in there for our evening meal, dogs are allowed in the conservatory. Meal was lovely, they also do takeaway.
Would use again as a stopover

1st time, 6 days in July
Stayed here 6 days in July during the heat wave.
This was our 1st time at this site.
The route into the site is quite narrow and at one point I did think we had taken a wrong turning,
Turn off the main 'A' road and go down a narrow lane with passing places, at the end is a sharp left turn up a steep slope then after 100 yards the site is on the left.
We arrived around 1.30pm and were quickly on our way looking for a pitch.
The warden did say that someone had arrived at 12 noon and was told to turn around and come back later which I fully agree with - Well done.
The site is set on several levels with hard standings and grass pitches.
Some of these are very unlevel and require wheel & leg blocks.
We initially pitched next to the play area as we were waiting for friends and were told other plots would be available near-by, however although kids don't bother us we did feel a bit like fish in a bowl as children & parents walked past.
We moved the following day to a pitch at the other side of the site which was much quieter.
The site was very clean, the facilities immaculate and the views stunning.
I do agree with a previous review that a couple of areas on the site do resemble cars parks made up of chippings and tarmac and not the usual club standards so I'm unsure why they took this approach to make pitching areas.
Other than that we had a very enjoyable stay with easy access to all areas of the Lakes.
Two weeks of heaven at Meathop Fell
Just returned from two weeks at this beautiful site. The views from the excellent dog walk area are breathtaking. Facilities excellent. The whole site was well maintained. The toilet blocks very clean and spacious. The wardens worked very hard and all were very friendly and helpful. The pizzas from the "van" were so good we tried a few! Saw many families with young children happily enjoying the play area. Great access to the whole of the wonderful Lake District and Grange over Sands is delightful - a walk along the Prom is a must. Hoping to return again. We had the perfect holiday and would recommend this site to anyone.

A lovely quiet site
This was our first visit to this site. Whilst we were there some of the pitches had been taken out of use and there was a generator on site due to problems with underground electrics, but this was explained when we arrived so we could choose a pitch away from the generator. The site staff are all very friendly, the facilities are spotlessly clean and the whole site was well maintained.

disappointed
planned to stay for 2 nights. when we arrived limited spaces available so we ended up in an area which can only be described as a car park! area was fully tarred and downright ugly. Also the stink, drains or something , which it appeared to be coming from down the hill, was constant.could not sit out in it and it seeped into the van. Very disappointing. Id advise very early arrival if you dont want the car park!
The other areas of the site seemed to be set out in the way we would expect. The staff were friendly enough and the facilities fine but the above issues would me me not stay there again.
Great site for a stopover or longer!
Love this site, it’s a perfect spot to stopover d route to Scotland or stay longer and explore the Lakes.
The wardens are lovely & friendly and everywhere is well looked after with clean shower blocks etc.
Stayed quite a few times now and can’t fault the place.

A surprisingly lovely area and fabulous site with far reaching views
Meathop Fell CAMC
Here for 4 nights in May 2022
Lovely site on different levels with a mixture of grass and hand standing pitches. A few trees so a mix of sun and shade too. The grass pitches are pretty dry as it’s quite rocky beneath the surface. There are about a dozen pitches with views, both at the top and bottom of the site and around the edge of the dog field. There are a lot of non awning pitches: some of these are on tarmac.
Fabulous views from grass pitches next to the Dog field. We were lucky enough to get one- pitch 58 so parked nose in to make the most of the views. The dog field is massive with fabulous views on a clear day. We needed levelling blocks as a lot of the grass pitches weren’t level.
First evening had a lovely walk along the 1 mile promenade in Grange. It was very quiet with lovely views over the estuary. You could walk to Grange from the site but it’s along a quiet country road rather than footpaths. There is a footpath to the nearby pretty village of Lindale which has a pub, the Royal Oak. We didn’t have time to try it unfortunately.
Took the 5 min train ride to Arnside over the estuary and walked for about 5 miles around and over Arnside Knott. This is national trust land and dogs can be mostly off lead which my dog loved after a lot of walks on lead through fields of sheep. Found a great cafe, Sandpipers as we walked back towards the station. Great coffee and cakes( incl gluten free) and dog friendly.
Visited Cartmel ( can recommend Cartmel Coffee in the square) with its interesting little shops and did a circular walk to Cark. As we passed the Holker estate we stopped there for a delicious lunch at their Courtyard cafe. You can also walk in the deer park for free, with dogs on leads.
We liked this site more than we expected and also loved Grange over Sands. There were some nice cafes in Grange that we didn’t have time to try.
One of the Best
Wonderful break at this glorious site set in stunning countryside with view across Morecambe Bay.
The site has to be one of the best maintained on the network, grounds and facilities immaculate thanks to the magnificent wardens who work very hard and also go out of their way to give you a lovely stay.
Good WiFi but struggled with TV reception even on the hook up with limited channels and signal break up. We were on a service pitch which was large and level.
Plenty to do in the surrounding area, just wish we had booked for longer. Steam trains, boat rides, walking, museums and some beautiful villages and landscapes.
Definitely come back for longer next time.
