Looe Club Campsite
Agree with a number of other recent reviews. Could be a great site if you're lucky enough to get on the nicely spaced hard standing pitches (though even a lot of those would benefit from some leveling work) but on the grass pitches it's not good. They're too packed in, front, back and side. They're on a significant slope (2 directions). When we arrived it was packed despite covid and the restrictions on the numbers using the facilities (though that wasn't such a problem if using your own as we were). There needs to be some management of pitches to ensure longer vans can get on a suitable pitch when it's that busy. We were given the site plan and the 4 or 5 vacant pitches highlighted but once you've driven past them to look at them the only way back is to exit the site at the barrier and re-enter but new arrivals are then entering in front of you and theres a good chance the pitch had then gone! Other than that it's a good site and in a good location with good access (no single track lanes to negotiate). An planning to return but we've booked a service pitch to ensure we're not on the grass!
Beautiful Site Clean and Welcoming
We found all the Looe Site Wardens very efficient and welcoming. We stayed for eight nights 19 to 27 September and several times over the past few years. The site is well kept and very attractive. The facilities both blocks are kept very clean throughout the day. The rubbish is collected frequently and left very clean and tidy. All of the Wardens were very cheerful and helpful despite extreme difficulties this year. There are beautiful views. The bus stops just outside the site which takes you to Looe etc. There are many places to visit from this location. We had a thoroughly enjoyable week here and many outings too.
Overcrowded!
We stayed 3 nights here as part of our tour around Devon and Cornwall and it was the worst site we stayed on!
The pitches are all very close together and given all the Covid social distancing guidance, we felt that the site should have been running at a reduced capacity this year. Our pitch wasn't so bad because we managed to get on the side, but those in the middle of the grassy area were literally on top of each other, I would not have been happy with one of those pitches at all! The hardstanding pitches are spaced out to the usual Club spec. The swimming pool isn't open this year due to Covid.
The toilet block was operating a band in a bucket of Milton system, so was a different system to what we've seen at other sites. It seemed to work OK initially, although I didn't particularly like fishing a band out of sterilising fluid, but then on one occasion someone had taken away all the bands from the ladies block leaving us all standing outside while the block was empty! Some people are very selfish or stupid, not sure which!
Slightly disappointed
Have been here before and was really looking forward to our stay. Unfortunately when I booked the only pitch available was grass my previous visit was on hardstanding. Grass pitches are crammed together, a large proportion of them are also on very sloped areas and despite blocks etc it is very difficult to get level. I had put my back out just before visit so didn't feel.up to repacking and moving to try and find another pitch which might have been flatter so we just got on with it. During our stay we witnessed so many people struggling. We had 4 different neighbours in a week who came set up and moved again to try to find a flatter pitch. The road between the pitches was so narrow, again difficult to manoeuvre the van in unless you have a motor mover. We moved our car on several occasions to enable people opposite and beside us to try and get on their pitch. Hardstanding is definitely the better option. Again we had no notification of building works on the site next to us which meant we had 3 days of drilling and clouds of smoke next to ours and other pitches. An email pre warning would have given us the option to make sure we were pitched elsewhere or cancel and rebook another time.. The site is lovely, the staff are great but just don't rely on a nice flat grass pitch. Didn't use the facilities this time due to covid but previously all had been kept well and maintained. Would come again as it is in a great position just make sure I get hardstanding. Tv signal not great could do with ariel plug in by the electric for those who like a relaxing evening infront of tv. Just a shame so many pitches have been crammed in on the grass but its revenue over comfort of the guests which is a shame
Very disappointed
This site is in a great position easy access to the coast either by walking bus or taxi Everywhere was was very clean and well kept Wardens very friendly and chatty whilst remaining professional and hard working. Would I stay here again probably not - I understand that after lockdown and the children returning to school it was going to be busy however this was beyond busy. I don’t understand who in their right mind thinks it’s acceptable to limit the facilities to a Quarter of the normal availability yet continue to have the site at maximum capacity there was always a queue and the band system although good in principal was working better at another site where they had different colours for toilet and shower. We did see a man in the town with a band still round his wrist. I know the site has no control over this or infact the amount of facilities and I also know that Covid measures dictate a lot of this but surely the number of units on site should have also been limited Rather than cramming a unit in every possible space Regardless of how tight it was. This was the least safe feeling site (Covid) we stayed in on the 6 different sites we used on our two week trip This could be a great place to stay but unfortunately not at the moment The pizza van was great and we enjoyed a lovely pizza and the town is fab but I think cmc maximised the revenue at the expense of its member. On this Trip we stayed at a mixture of cmc and private sites and to be honest the private were much better they had better facilities and far roomier pitches also considerably cheaper.
Had a lovely two nights in Looe Campsite - Washroom facilities need a re-think!
We stayed at this site last autumn, and liked it then, so booked another couple of nights (this week starting Bank holiday Monday). Luckily quite a few of the units had left meaning the site wasn’t full, although i would say it was about three quarters full if not more.
The staff at the reception for booking in were really friendly and efficient, we were free to find our own pitch and report back to reception with the number.
Reading the reviews prior to arrival I was concerned regarding the Coronavirus mitigation in regards to the washroom facilities, as like most motor-homers we rely on site facilities for toilets and showers, and would not have stayed had these been closed (which they were not).
Washrooms - They had a rubber wrist band system where three pink wrist bands were left soaking in a bleach water container at the entrance to the washroom facilities. You were requested to take a wrist band when using the facilities and on leaving the washroom drop your wrist band back in the bleach water for the next person.
The washroom (men’s side - similar to women's side) consisted of about 7-8 toilets, 5 sinks (some in their own cubicles) and about 7 or 8 showers. It seemed that every middle cubicle (toilet/basin/shower) had been taken out of action for ‘social distancing’ reasons. This halved the available washroom capacity. Myself and other members who I spoke to could not understand the rationale for this procedure which led to people queuing outside to use the facilities, when in actual fact those inside had migrated from toilet to shower and then washroom, meaning a pointless wait. As a person who is used to writing risk assessments the system imposed at Looe is flawed, and actually increases the likelihood of catching Covid IF an infected person was to use the facilities. It reduces the available capacity from 8 units (toilet/shower or basin) to 4 of each thereby doubling the likelihood of being In a contaminated space. There was no control measures in limiting the number of pitches on site. The suggestion that people should use their own facilities (i.e. caravan or motorhome) Does not take into account how most of their clientele use campsites and their units. Showering or ‘using‘ a thetford cassette toilet in a motorhome or caravan is an unpleasant experience. In the end most people (including myself) ignored the wrist band procedure as people were clearly taking the wrist bands with them forgetting to drop them back in the container leading to unnecessary waits on a near empty washoom!
Aside from that the Pizza tent which sets up Mondays was excellent! Truly fine pizzas using thin crust sour dough.
The campsite and facilities were clean and tidy, and we had no complaints as to the staff who were very friendly and always smiling. Just need to address the washroom though - perhaps follow the Tintagel procedure (cup hook board where all members are given a wrist band and hang them up on an empty hook when using

A Lovely Site
We have just returned from 3 nights at Looe Bay Club Site. The site is a lovely site with very friendly staff and wardens. The grounds are well kept and the grass is constantly being cut to keep it looking nice.
Some of the pitches are not level but levelling ramps and some blocks sorts this out. The site is lovely and quiet and set along the main road into Looe. We have booked to go back in April next year and cant wait to explore some more of the Cornwall coastline.
Site review
Nice site but there were some noisy campers late at night which has not been our experience at other caravan and motorhome sites. Also if you have children you cannot easily get onto any walks without having to walk on a very busy road.
Brilliant site - ignore the moaning !!
Arrived at 1pm and did I notice through the stay people can arrive at whatever time they like in the morning and are allowed in !! Anyway, wardens great and facilities clean. Kids playground reopened whilst we were on site which was a good idea and welcomed. Playground not that noisey And the noise stops at 9ish. Some seem to think there is a 9pm curfew meaning no talking outside - unbelievable. Cody shack a Walkman way and lots of Greta pubs and beaches locally.
Great place to spend a fortnight
Take the recent slightly negative reviews posted here with a big pinch of salt. We loved Looe. When we arrived, having read some recent reviews, we thought the site may have gone downhill over the last few years. It hasn't. The site was looking splendid. The wardens were polite and welcoming (we phoned ahead as we were early and they happily allowed us to turn up before the normal arrival time) and the arrangements for checking in, albeit a little slower than normal due to the pandemic, were absolutely fine.
The facilities were spotless - the only issues were down to the people staying on site (not the wardens fault) - and these issues (such as toilets left in a mess are problems everywhere!). The banding system for the toilets worked fine - if people didn't keep stealing the bands (you can't cater for stupidity).
Note, if you want peace and quiet then avoid the pitches around the playground (common sense right?).
Looe is a wonderful site, in a wonderful area. Stay there with confidence! Just looking forward to the next time (when, hopefully, the pool will be open!)
