Caravan site or dog walking field?

We visited this site for a second Christmas and have been during the summer as well, but have never seen so many people dog walking around the site especially over the grass pitch area which was in front of our pitch. Otherwise our stay was fine, the facilities were as clean and tidy as ever although we didn't think the wardens were as friendly as the ones we have seen here on previous visits. Having read recent reviews we would concur with the fact that some of the pitches appear to be more residential than holidaying but so what if people travel around in their retirement years on permanent or semi permanent holiday.

dogs mess

I visited this site over the Christmas period 2017 and have been here many times before and have always enjoyed our stay the toilets and showers are always immaculate and always good wardens on site whenever we have visited however on 2 occasions in the last year we have visited we have had dogs mess on the grass between our pitch and the next one I am not a dog owner but also like dogs both times I have told the wardens and they have cleared it up although it is not their job to do so as on this site there is a dog exercise area all dogs are supposed to be kept on leads so the owners must know when their dogs foul the pitches lets hope that people are more concerned about this problem who own dogs. dave

Holiday site or residential site????

I have visited this site several times over the last few years and have always found it to be lovely but I am sad to say that I was somewhat disappointed on my recent visit. The site is obviously being used as a residential place rather than a holiday site, I was pitched next to a caravan where somebody left for work early each morning in his van - there was as somebody previously stated a tatty old van with his awning tied on.There was also motorhome which arrived followed by a white van which looked like a converted camper allowed on the same pitch. The caravan club used to be so over the top with their rules but now it seems they have thrown the rule book out of the window. What happened to the rule that the sites are for recreational purposes??

How do you measure an atmosphere of discomfort?

We are all travellers. We were just passing through on the way from scotland to portugal in november and stayed at this site on the way. It felt uncomfortable having to complain to the site managers about a derelict motorcaravan parked adjacent to reception; tattered and torn tent tied on with string, housing an alsation dog; bits of vehicle which had been removed lying around creating the impression of a car breakers yard. The site managers were, of course, polite when they explained that the members in the 'van had a right to be there. They were not able to explain why they were unable to police anti-social behaviour as evidenced by the state of that area of the site immediately adjacent to the office. They did say that they got no support from the club on this issue, and asked us to send a photo of the pitch and 'van to the club! We never did see the occupants of the 'van. They are not the problem. The acceptance of what they are doing is the real issue. The discomfort of all involved is creating a terrible atmosphere for all travellers using the site.

Goo clean site

Having read some previous reviews I was slightly apprehensive about booking this site, but I didn't need to be. I saw no evidence of this site being taken over by travellers. There is a static section at the back of the site which is obviously residential so this maybe what others confused with people staying and working but this section was as I said at the back and had no effect on the actual site, well for me anyway. The facilities were great, very clean well maintained. Good size pitches. Staff upon arrival were very welcoming. My only criticism is the 'dog walk' yes it's an area for your dog to go to the toilet but it's not a dog walk not for my German shepherd and even the little dogs would struggle to stretch there legs. However it is still nice to have that facility on site. Unfortunately the road does get noisey with 'boy racers' but that is out of the clubs hands!! We had a great week break, good central location to getting out and exploring & a short walk to a good sized Morrisons. Would I recommend this site, yes I would just expect some road noise while you a there.

Littlehampton CC

Great facilities and location, masses to do and see in the locality. Seemed to be a lot of vehicle movement before 7 am, site or or static homes used by workers? will avoid the exit area next time.

Left distressed

This site is really nice and spotless the wardens were very friendly nice warm showers all what we became members for 19 years ago but after arriving on site on Wednesday we noticed a caravan with no locker doors on broken windows with a little dog left underneath the caravan with a rope around its neck the caravan was occupied by a lady man and 2 children they went out on Thursday and weren’t seen since the gentleman next door told the wardens Friday morning and they bought it a bowl of water various people on site complained that the dog had been left with no water food and anything to lie on it was freezing temperatures I took it a carpet and towel for it to lie on and fed it the lady behind gave it a collar as you couldn’t get your finger in between the rope all the wardens kept saying was we trying to get in touch with the owners this is the point of the so called section 10.3 code of behaviour makes it clear that membership precludes anyone that is using the site for anything other than recreational purposes as you stated 3 times below this clearly wasn’t being used for recreational purposes with it been unoccupied for 4 days leaving a defenceless dog with no water food or anything to sit on the rspca turned up on Monday to give a form to the owner but in my opinion it had been badly neglected I rang the site to ask about how the dog was after coming home on Sunday as I was feeling very upset thinking of this lovely dog and the response was the owners have been contacted and they are due to go off tomorrow so in the end all that has happened is the problem will be ongoing for wherever they turn up to next I am left utterly distressed thinking about the poor dog I think the wardens could have done a lot more about the situation with the pet the gentleman next door complained at least 4 times and so did 3 others and myself I just hope wherever they go to next the dog has people around who will give it the basics of what it needs warmth food and water

Comment from the Club

We are very sorry to read that your recent visit left you feeling upset and distressed. At the Club we take animal welfare very seriously and appreciate that many of our visitors are animal lovers and pet owners. As such, we would like to assure you that once the situation was highlighted the wardens called the RSPCA, who have the recognised authority and expertise to properly assess any distress or neglect with regard to the dog’s health and well being. The RSCPA prioritised the case as they judged appropriate in the circumstances and provided suitable guidance / advice to the owner. The wardens also spoke to the members concerned regarding our expectations – both for then and the future. We are not able to discuss any action taken against a member but please be assured that any misconduct with regard to Club Site Rules is acted upon and taken where appropriate.

Unhappy

Nice site been there 4 times Trouble is there are now commercial vans on site With people who don't live by the law Vans in and out eye balling the other campers and there things left out side There kids seem to take over the play areas Say anything and things get not so nice The caravan and motorhome club is turning its self into a travellers campsite I pity the staff having to put up with them

Comment from the Club:

Thank you for your review. We were sorry to read you were unhappy during your stay.

As per our replies to the previous reviews, as an inclusive organisation, and bearing in mind the law on these matters, the Club does not have a policy that discriminates against any particular individuals / groups and commercial vans are allowed on Club sites. However, in support of the original ethos of the Club, the Bye-Laws (Section 10.3 – Code of Behaviour) do make it clear that membership usually precludes anyone who is not using our Sites purely for recreational purposes.

The vast majority of our members enjoy the Club Sites and Certificated Locations on offer through membership without any problems/concerns. Where we become aware of anyone that abuses the benefits of membership then we act swiftly to investigate and address that situation.  With the size of membership that we enjoy, which helps fund the facilities everyone benefits from, you will appreciate that diversity across our membership is inevitable. While Site Staff will be vigilant to try and identify and mitigate the opportunity for any unwelcome behaviour at the earliest possible stage, they also take care to only intervene when clearly warranted.

Once again, I am sorry you felt your holiday was spoiled. We have noted the comments you have made and these will be passed onto the Regional Manager who looks after Littlehampton Club Site.

Uneasy

Have visited this site on a couple of occasions and have always enjoyed our visit. The site itself is very well maintained by friendly and helpful wardens who cannot be faulted. However on this occasion, we were a little apprehensive to find a number of white vans coming and going at all times early and late. Obviously these people were going about their business using the site as a base. This does not sit well with those of us who use Caravan and Motorhome club sites for recreation. If this is to be the normal on Club sites for the future, then we will be reconsidering our membership.
