Visited Littlehampton site last week, using it as a base to explore. Very clean, tidy, and well kept. Pitches all seem large and level, (the one we had was anyway). Make sure you have extra long waste and water hoses, as some connection points require this. Toilets/showers were clean and user friendly, but some users need to think on how they leave them after use!!!
Good local shopping for daily requirements with a Tesco superstore selling fuel within a two mile drive of Wick, and more in Littlehampton. A drive through MCDs is also handy if needed.
Site shop and female staff are friendly, but sorry to say that the male warden was less so (obviously he was having a bad day when we arrived). If you just want to sit and relax, it is the park for you, (we stayed from a Tuesday to a Friday). Brighton is a nice drive away, and a good day out, (but the Pier no longer allows dogs), and avoid Bognor as the sea front is dyer, although 'high Street' shopping is good if bored.
The Littlehampton site is a good base to explore, or as a stop off.
Very Clean, Peaceful site - great for kids, famcilies, couples and dogs
We returned to Littlehampton site (not been since 2016) and were nervous due to some negative reviews on the site. happy to say none of these applied to our visit. There were no commercial vehicles on the site. The facilities were spotless. There was no loud music heard on the site (let alone music played till midnight like one review). The site was full when we were there. The play ground is great for kids age 5-11. The dog walk is small but perfectly practical for few minutes exercise. pitches level and good, however, like my previous review in 2016 they are very close together. For people with dogs, west whittering beach has a section called East Head that allows dogs on the beach all year. The Lamb Inn allows dogs, has a playground and does good food near by. Arundel is lovely place to visit and also has a number of pubs and cafe's that allow dogs and have good kids menus. We will definitely be back as its close to us and works for kids and dogs. My only comment for improvement would be for dogs that are unsociable, aggressive or possessive - ie go for other dogs because they think they are going to take away their ball- they should be kept on a lead... even if you are CHMH staff.
An interesting stay
This was our first visit to area and the site is close to lots of places we wanted to see. It was bank holiday and half term, so as expected was very busy and the choice of pitch was limited when we arrived. Facilities were clean and wardens were helpful. There were lots of children cycling and playing on scooters racing around the site with one coming around the corner and nearly knocking us over. Lots of congregating around the shower block with no parents in sight. I think if the children were better supervised it would make everyone’s stay more enjoyable. We have stayed on several sites during the holidays and have not known it to be like this. We were glad we had a pitch on the edge of the site as much quieter. Good dog walk.
Perfect pitch but fortunate choice
Visited on busy Mayday Bank Holiday weekend. Arrived early on Friday & were given choice of pitches. Selected pitch 80 which proved to be a good choice. Whilst close to toilet facilities we were on the quieter side away from play area. Large hardstanding area, that had sun on it all day. Pitches to the rear of the site appeared more crowded, with a large number of what seemed to be visitors. As has already been mentioned toilet facilities struggled to cope, but this was probably down to misuse rather than a general plumbing issue. Staff can only do so much- some people need to think about their actions when using communal facilities- hopefully they wouldn't leave their home in this state, but you never know! Comments about train & road noise are totally unnecessary, unless you have the very acute hearing. Access was never an issue, despite frequent closure of level crossing. Used cycle map to visit Littlehampton & local villages- nice easy ride along quiet flat roads. Issue of dogs seems to be a regular topic of conversation on Club sites. I love dogs, but the sound of two yapping Jack Russells, that barked every time another dog walked by their pitch, did start to wear a bit thin by the fourth day. A great site for dogs with a fully enclosed dog walk for them to let off steam. Visiting pizza van on Saturday was good value & very popular as it ran out long before the scheduled departure time. Recommend you get there early & don't leave it too late. Overall a very enjoyable break, obviously helped by the great weather.
Severly dissappointed in the site but love the area
We love the area and having stayed at this site many times over the years I was looking forward to a bank holiday getaway at a site we were familiar with and have enjoyed in the past.
All started well but then we began to see how things have deteriorated since our last stay. The first morning I went for a shower to find that someone had poo'd on the shower floor! I went to reception and reported it, at which point the warden i spoke to said 'don't worry we are used to it.' So, what i thought must be an isolated incident obviously isn't!!! The cleanliness of the toilets over the weekend varied with many occasions both the male and femaile toilets were in a real state. On one occasion 4 of the cubicles in the male block were blocked up and in a non sanitary condition. I appreciate it was extremley busy, but in the last 7 years of membership and having stayed at quite a few caravan club sites i have not experienced anything like this before.
There was no hot water on a number of occasions in the toilet block across the weekend, which many people were moaning about. A cold shower is not the way to start the day! Also when you need to wash-up, hot water is a must. Again this was reported to the wardens by a number of members, with no visbile effort to restore the hot water.
On the Saturday night there was very loud music thumping away until gone midnight which we believe was coming from the static caravans accessed through the site which kept us awake. It was incredibly loud.
The grass pitches were quite chaotic with people not observing the pitch rules and minimum spacing. Which from a fire prevention perspective we found to be quite concerning as it was very hot and everyone was BBQ'ing. It also felt very cramped. I can only assume that non-members were the one's on the grass pitches to the rear of the site and don't know the rules or did not have them explained to them by the wardens. I was also quite surpised to have been sitting by my van enjoying the sunshine and see a young child on the grass pitches opposite stand there in the open pull down his shorts and have a wee on the grass in front of everyone and no effort made by the parents to control their child.
We backed on to the play area which we thought would be great for our son but some of the older kids on the site were quite abusive and unruly which on a number of occasions meant the younger children 5-7 year olds could not go in the play area as it was being used as a youth club by older children.
It is a real shame that such a lovely site that we have stayed in both as a Caravan Club site and before it was purchased by the club can be so easily spoilt through poor management and lack of standards.
Apart from the above we really enjoyed our stay. Littlehampton as town has had a lot of money spent on it over the last few years and with Arundel just a short journey away is a lovely part of the South Coast to visit.
Stunning Location, great stay
We arrived on the Friday of the May Day bank holiday. The weather was stunning. On arrival the member of staff that greeted us made us very welcome and pointed out the pitches that would best suit our requirements. The site is conveniently located just south of the hamlet of Lyminster the entrance 50 yards from the main road. That said our pitch was pretty quiet from road noise and backed on to allotments. The seaside town of Littlehampton has had quite a bit of re-generation of the last decade or so and was looking great along the riverside and promenade. For none car drivers it is a 30 min walk though there is a bus (Number 9) that leaves from outside the 6 Bells pub (recommended for Sunday lunch) or if you stand opposite the pub the bus (No 9 again) goes to Arundel.
Arundel is a must visit and Chichester and Chichester harbour just a short drive. There is a huge market at Ford (just over the Arun) on Thursdays, Saturdays and a car boot on Sunday morning.
We'll be booking again very soon.
Easter Break
This was our first time coming to this site, although sadly the weather was not on our side the site was very nice, we opted for a service pitch and had everything we needed , it makes everything so much easier, to start the holiday off nice and relaxed. We absolutely would come here again.
The toilets were spotlessly clean, and the area for waste etc was all clean and tidy.
A great place to come to if you want to visit the surrounding area, the only snag is that you want to catch the train barrier up or you could be waiting a while, outside the site.
A very efficient in and out of the site itself, being one way round, with barriers at the entry and exit point.
Definitely recommend this site!!!
Too Many Premium Cost Serviced Pitches!
Littlehampton Caravan Club has an unusual suburban location.
The nearby level crossing can make exiting onto the main road a bit difficult at times. However, it isn't a major problem and shouldn't put you off a visit because this is a very neat and tidy site that is beautifully well maintained.
What may put you off though is the lack of standard hard standings.
I know that the club needs to pay for an utterly pointless rebranding exercise that must have cost a fortune, but does that really justify the club putting in so many extra cost serviced pitches to empty our pockets of even more of our hard earned?
Row after row of the pitch provision are premium cost serviced pitches rather than standard hardstandings suitable for a van and awning.
All the rest seem to be grass pitches that either nobody wants unless they are on a heritage weekend away or are much too wet and muddy to use!
We drove round looking for a rare standard hard standing, but the few that are provided here were not all occupied. Not a huge surprise. There were spaces galore on the serviced pitches though!
Eventually we drove down the road leading to the exit barrier. Here there were plenty of standard hard standings that nobody wanted. Why didn't anyone want one of these? Well, for a start, you felt cut off from the rest of the site. You felt totally alone from everyone else. Secondly, this line of hard standings was an obvious security risk. Anyone passing by on the road outside could see the vans, walk into the site and never be seen by the wardens or anyone else.
If I had a shilling for every caravan and motorhome that drove down our road, thought twice about it and reversed up of turned around, then I could have afforded a super pitch myself!
Warm and friendly welcome
Just returned from a chilly week (weather wise) and wanted to give this site a good rating. The only 4* mark related to peace and quiet as there is a busy road and railway line nearby, but this did not detract from our pleasurable experience.
The welcome from Mandy and Mike, and their willing assistance when needed were faultless.
Facilities were clean and well maintained and I’d recommend a visit to anyone.
New Year break
We stayed here for New Year, there was a warm welcome by the wardens, the facilities were very clean and warm.
Although the site is by a busy road, noise intrusion wasn't too bad.
The site is suitable to access many areas along the south coast and only a short drive from Arundel. The walk into Littlehampton itself and to the beach took about 30 minutes.
Unfortunately our pitch had been used as an ashtray by previous occupants and there was also dog mess at the rear of the pitch.
