It's a clean well laid out site. The location is perfect for exploring Yorkshire. We have only managed one weekend so far but intend to try and book many more weekends in the following year. There really is so much to do, lots of lovely walks, shopping and eating out. There is a bus stop outside of the site with quite a regular service to all the major towns. The onsite Bar/Restuarant it's lovely it's clean, it's fresh, it's new, I love the shabby chic interior and the outside seating area is so inviting even in the colder weather you are tempted to sit out. It was nice being able to have a glass of wine and some lovely food cooked for you with no worry of who's driving. Also you feel free to dress up or dress down as you please. For those just wanting to tuck up early there is the option of a takeaway service. The Restuarant staff were so helpful and made you feel very special, it really was a treat eating there in fact so nice we went the next night as well.

New Developments
Having visited this site many times before we were keen to see the changes. The site in general is much improved except for the entrance which is very tight so beware. Unfortunately we found out the hard way by misjudging and getting stuck!! Can't thank everyone who helped us to get out of a sticky situation especially the two wardens. Now The Wanderer bistro is a lovely addition but sadly the quality of food leaves much to be desired. We had a meal here on two occasions giving them the benefit of doubt. First meal when ordering we were told there would be no black pudding with the pork as the chef had been busy all day and not had time to make it, bearing in mind it's supposed to be locally sourced produce, I'm sure a local butcher would have been a good option!! The second evening we were served braised lamb from the specials board. The lamb had never seen braised as it was fatty and had to be hacked off the bone. The chips came in a little bucket lined with paper which looked quirky but had more paper than chip and at £3.50 a portion we prefer to have the chips. The pork and apple pie consisted of three chunks of meat bulked out with veg. We did raise a complaint with the waitress who said she would pass it on as the manager was dealing with complaints from another table!! We have been to the site for the last 2 New Years Eve and have had a great time and we are hoping for a 3rd but with a price of £45 per head, when the previous has been a curry buffet at £0 as a good will gesture seems a little steep!! Whilst we appreciate you expect to pay more to celebrate New Year the quality being served does not reflect the prices charged. Come on Caravan Club this needs sorting as we really do want to use the bistro but will not be ripped off with poor quality food at high prices.
Wander
Having visited before and really enjoyed the old Bestro we decided as an end of season treat that we would indulge our selfs and eat in the new Wander Bar and Kitchen every night of our stay. The first night I ordered the Sirloin steak and my wife ordered the steak and potato pie and to my absolute horror I got Sirlion steak and a few chips and nothing else and my wife got her pie with peas and sweet corn. With 2 drinks the cost was £37.00 which is obscene. We thought this might be a one of and tried the next night and to our amazement, when we enquirer about tonight specials we were informed as he had over slept he didn't have time to prepare anything. We decided to have something of the meno and when my wife asked what veg was available was told yet again peas and sweet corn. Just bear in mind Morison is only down the road, with lots of veg for sale. Bring back the previous incumbents quickly or no one will use this valuable asset.

First time since site upgrade
Visited site last year and really saw a difference this year all grass pitches made to hard standing which was nice.Shame about the bistro though prices seem to have doubled Evan the takeaway menu was far to expensive. Don't think we will be visiting site again as use to like going into the friendly bistro but not at their prices

First visit since upgrade
Just back after a weekend at one of our favourite sites in the network - recently reopened after a large upgrade.
Impressed by the new pitches, more hard standings and service pitches now as well; new toilet block attached to the rebuilt offices and "bistro" building are excellent.
Less impressed by what has been done to the entrance. The previous in / out has been split in two to give separate routes; the right angle turn to get in is a strange move as it is now tighter than it was before, large units and motorhomes take care. Once through the wooden-fenced entrance you are met by two in-barriers - one for new arrivals and one for on-site traffic / those with a key-fob already. Problem with this is that if there is more than one unit waiting to check in you can't get past so have to wait anyway. There is also a barrier on the way out but the whole barrier system doesn't make the site any more secure as you can drive between the two sets in the gap provided for the "on-site" barrier!? Very strange....
The queue that can build up at 5pm on a Friday and noon on Sunday for new arrivals can cause a traffic jam that gets out on to the village road - if there is a unit waiting on the road, you can't get out of the exit lane to leave!
All in all, an odd change to have made to the roads (there don't seem to be so many reminders of the 5mph limit as previously either?), but the change to the site itself is excellent.
Didn't use the Bistro as the prices seemed high and discussion on site wasn't especially complimentary.
Bistro
The bar bistro is run by amateur staff although the staff where very friendly
The first night the beer ran out and we sent our meal back it was under cooked
The second night we had our starter that came but only half the dish this was rectified
Then we sat for 50mins waiting for our main coarse so ask how long it would be
Bearing in mind there was only 4 other customers in they came back and told us it had not being started
We told them don't bother and when back our caravan and had beans on toast
The bistro was also cold not very welcoming
The new Bistro.
Just returned home after two nights a the Knaresborough site, having eaten on both nights at the bistro, I must say I was not impressed with the standard of food considering the prices they are charging, I thought one night was just bad luck, but the following night was worse, the room itself was cold and when I asked if the air conditioning could be turned down was told it was supposed to be self setting and they didn't have any control over it, I made my feelings known to the staff, I came last year to the old bistro and the food was excellent, I suggest the club get the cook/chef from last year to return.
A gem of a site.
We really enjoyed our first time visit to this site. It's in a great location with plenty to do. The new Bistro is a great asset to the site and we hope these can be expanded to more sites.
All the staff and wardens were exceptional throughout our stay and I'd find it difficult to find fault with anything (except the patchy summer weather)!
We've booked to return in a few weeks so we can explore the town and the area in more detail. If anyone is planning to stay here for the first time could I advise you to watch the first couple of corners coming out of Knaresborough, we found a few drivers giving little leeway to our outfit.
August bank holiday - fantastic weekend
We arrived just after 1pm on opening day to a lovely welcome from the friendly wardens. They'd obviously worked hard to get the site ready, and getting people in, and onto pitches was a top priority and was very well organised. Great facilities, especially the new bar/bistro. Probably one of the best sites we've stayed at, especially its proximity to Knaresborough, Harrogate, Ripley, etc. The list of lovely places within easy reach of this site is endless!
Met some lovely folks while we were here, especially motor-homers Ian and Ann from Middlesborough, with their Dachsund 'Troy'.....and the sun shone too! Good times :-)
