Excellent Refurbishment

Just returned from the newly designed site. It is lovely. This has always been one of our favourite sites and it did not disappoint us. Arrived at 12 and the Wardens were brilliant, they asked everyone in the queue to hand in their membership cards and go find a pitch. They didn't want a backlog on the road. Excellent idea and worked a treat, everyone drove onto site and picked their pitch and then returned to site office to pay. No hassle at all. The site is laid out a little different with a change to the one way system but nothing that could cause a problem. The Wanderer Bistro - we were like others reluctant to try it as we had read the bad reviews but on our final evening there we went in and were very impressed by the friendliness of the staff and the whole ambience of the place. Excellent that dogs are allowed in, nothing unhygienic about that at all, The place was spotless. A bonus for all of us responsible dog owners. The food looked good and when we return to this site we will definitely have a meal there. Specials board and at what appeared to be good value for money.

Excellent Restaurant

Stayed at the Knaresborough site from the 6th to 11th October. We really enjoyed our stay. The site is very popular and was virtually full everyday. The site is well looked after, there is a little road noise but not too excessive. We were a bit cautious about trying The Wanderer restaurant after reading some bad reviews, but decided to give it a go. I'm glad we did, we ate there on 2 occasions, the food was excellent, good atmosphere and the staff are really friendly, we couldn't fault it. Being able to take our dog into the restaurant was a big positive for us and stops our dog from barking and annoying other caravanners if left in the caravan while we are out socialising.

Autumn trip

Second visit to this site, arrived mid afternoon and only pitch left was behind Bistro (No28?), seemed OK until retired for the night. Very noisy overnight due to kitchen aircom or whatever, moved in the morning to vacant pitch nearer toilet block. Used the Bistro twice, first time OK apart from waitress whose long untied hair which dipped in my wife's wine glass. Second night was busy and the service was poor and the food was average, no specials board as previous night. My main complaint is allowing dogs to enter a restaurant, this is anti social and unhygienic, bad enough having them but having to put up with them barking was the last straw. It's the Guy Fawkes for us if we return! Apart from the above the site was good, very clean and tidy and loved the new toilet block, more of these please.

Great stay

Stayed for 5 nights 1-5 October 2017. Wardens really welcoming, friendly and helpful. Entrance is a bit tight but we were met on arrival and fast tracked through the barrier to avoid queues backing up onto the road which was a really good idea. All pitches laid out well and site well maintained. Site was busy while we were there, but still very peaceful and quiet. We ate in the Bistro one night, and had an excellent meal with prices on par with other eateries in the local area. Service was very good and we had no complaints about the food or service. We visited on another night just for a drink - it was great that we could take our well behaved dog in. Knaresborough itself is a nice town within walking distance from the site through Nidd Gorge (great for dogs). Pubs and cafes in town are dog friendly as well. Overall a very enjoyable stay. We will definitely be back.

Brave try but not for us

Easy to find. Access to the site is limited with two units able to block the entrance for those already on site and looking to return after a trip out. Needs rethinking. The site has a wow factor which is not matched by the wardens. If the CMC is seeking a new image, it needs wardens who can live up to that image. Landscaping is poor and the site looks overcrowded. Moving around site to find or return to a pitch is not easy because of the tight design. Pitches near the main Reception/Bistro block suffer from noise such as the plant room so best avoided. One toilet block has been updated and is OK. There is a smaller block in the main building. This really does have a wow factor, resembling the facilities in a modern gym. More of this type please! There is little information in the spacious Information Room - actually its a corridor. We ate in the Bistro one night when it was just over half full. The service was good, the prices reasonable, and the food was excellent. Given the volume of negative comments, we were really surprised to have such a good experience. We would still prefer to go to a local pub though - the nearest one had no food on that night. With a better entrance layout, more landscaping, dynamic wardens, consistently high standards in the Bistro, and fewer pitches, it might be for us. For now, its too flawed.

Excellent new facilities but terrible Bistro

We arrived at Knaresborough and were really impressed with the new facilities and the way the Bistro had been upgraded. We had been looking forward to enjoying meals at the new Bistro. The previous one looking tired and the food average. However, we were sorely disappointed and this was the evening before the GRAND OPENING!!! My husband ordered the Sunday lunch which, as previously described by another reviewer, consisted of a burnt offering, the beef being like leather and the Yorkshire pudding burnt almost to a crisp, with peas and sweet corn straight from the freezer, a carrot and one roast potato for the princely sum of £12.95. I decided to act cautiously and ordered Caesar Salad - what can you do wrong with a Caesar Salad!!! It came - a small bowl filled to the brim of chopped - yes you did read that correctly - chopped little gem lettuce. Not separated leaves but cut into chunks. If it’s cut into chunks how did they clean it....... The sliced chicken was straight from the fridge - for which I paid extra - there were one or two hard croutons and a few drops and I mean drops of Caesar sauce. That was it. I had to ask for the Parmesan and more sauce and the Anchovies - which are on the menu - and which the waiter asked if I wanted. I was told the anchovies were included in the sauce. What rot - there were no anchovies in the sauce. When I complained to the waiter he rudely asked me if I was a Chef, to which. I replied I have had Caesar Saads all over the world and this definitely is not a Caesar Salad. For this we paid £32 including a drink. We spent the rest of our holiday eating in the delightful Guy Fawkes where the food is excellent and good value for money at a cost similar or lower than the Bistro. Like a previous reviewer the Chef was too busy to come and speak to me and there were only 3 other tables occupied. When we go back to Knaresborough again there is no doubt that we will be eating at the very welcoming Guy Fawkes, where the owner thanked us for returning and for taking our family.

What a great site Great new development but the new restaurant is awful. This has always been oureally favourite sites and still is and delighted it is all year round now but we tried the new bistro and the food is double in price.BRING BACK CHRIS The staff are trying but the place has lost its atmosphere now and the food is poor. I had the Roast on the Sunday which was like leather with a blackened Yorkshire and a small bowl of frozen veg .Terrible it would have to improve before I'd eat there again . I'M HOPING IT'S JUST TEASING TROUBLES AS NEWLY REFURBISHED OPENED

It's so popular you have to book a long way in advance

It's a clean well laid out site. The location is perfect for exploring Yorkshire. We have only managed one weekend so far but intend to try and book many more weekends in the following year. There really is so much to do, lots of lovely walks, shopping and eating out. There is a bus stop outside of the site with quite a regular service to all the major towns. The onsite Bar/Restuarant it's lovely it's clean, it's fresh, it's new, I love the shabby chic interior and the outside seating area is so inviting even in the colder weather you are tempted to sit out. It was nice being able to have a glass of wine and some lovely food cooked for you with no worry of who's driving. Also you feel free to dress up or dress down as you please. For those just wanting to tuck up early there is the option of a takeaway service. The Restuarant staff were so helpful and made you feel very special, it really was a treat eating there in fact so nice we went the next night as well. 5 stars

New Developments

Having visited this site many times before we were keen to see the changes. The site in general is much improved except for the entrance which is very tight so beware. Unfortunately we found out the hard way by misjudging and getting stuck!! Can't thank everyone who helped us to get out of a sticky situation especially the two wardens. Now The Wanderer bistro is a lovely addition but sadly the quality of food leaves much to be desired. We had a meal here on two occasions giving them the benefit of doubt. First meal when ordering we were told there would be no black pudding with the pork as the chef had been busy all day and not had time to make it, bearing in mind it's supposed to be locally sourced produce, I'm sure a local butcher would have been a good option!! The second evening we were served braised lamb from the specials board. The lamb had never seen braised as it was fatty and had to be hacked off the bone. The chips came in a little bucket lined with paper which looked quirky but had more paper than chip and at £3.50 a portion we prefer to have the chips. The pork and apple pie consisted of three chunks of meat bulked out with veg. We did raise a complaint with the waitress who said she would pass it on as the manager was dealing with complaints from another table!! We have been to the site for the last 2 New Years Eve and have had a great time and we are hoping for a 3rd but with a price of £45 per head, when the previous has been a curry buffet at £0 as a good will gesture seems a little steep!! Whilst we appreciate you expect to pay more to celebrate New Year the quality being served does not reflect the prices charged. Come on Caravan Club this needs sorting as we really do want to use the bistro but will not be ripped off with poor quality food at high prices.

Wander

Having visited before and really enjoyed the old Bestro we decided as an end of season treat that we would indulge our selfs and eat in the new Wander Bar and Kitchen every night of our stay. The first night I ordered the Sirloin steak and my wife ordered the steak and potato pie and to my absolute horror I got Sirlion steak and a few chips and nothing else and my wife got her pie with peas and sweet corn. With 2 drinks the cost was £37.00 which is obscene. We thought this might be a one of and tried the next night and to our amazement, when we enquirer about tonight specials we were informed as he had over slept he didn't have time to prepare anything. We decided to have something of the meno and when my wife asked what veg was available was told yet again peas and sweet corn. Just bear in mind Morison is only down the road, with lots of veg for sale. Bring back the previous incumbents quickly or no one will use this valuable asset.
