Great winter break

We stayed for 6 nights from Sunday 12th Nov. We found the site well laid out with good sized pitches. We used both toilet blocks and they were very clean and up to the usual CMC standards. The location of the site is great for visiting many local attractions. We drove into Harrogate and also used the P&R at Poppleton for a day in York. There is a bus stop right outside the site for those without transport, I believe the buses go to Harrogate and Kneesboorugh. There is a station in Knaresborough Centre so you could travel on elsewhere. Having read some very recent uncomplementary reviews on Tripadvisor we did not try the Bistro but instead walked down to the Guy Fawkes pub in the village, took about 10 minutes. Well worth the walk, the food was excellent and the wine list had some nice choices. Pub is unpretentious and host and staff friendly and efficient. Only one negative which lost a star for peace and quiet, at 6.15 am on Saturday the bin lorry arrived and made plenty of racket emptying the wheelie bins, also on Saturday morning from about 8.30there seemed to be a lot of yapping and barking dogs on site. The previous 5 days had been lovely and peaceful. We would return.

Weekend stay

Just enjoyed a lovely weekend on this site. The new bistro and layout of the site is fantastic. My only complain of sites now is the world has gone dog mad, I'm not against dogs but people no longer have a dog, it is multiple dogs. I didnt mind them in the bistro until people started coming in with 2 or 3 per couple. The sites are now providing more services for dogs such as dog washes etc. It's about time the caravan club started a charge for dogs on sites, I have to pay for my kids and they are better behaved and quieter than most dogs. This is the most talked about thing I here been spoke about on sites.

Great to see a bar on the site!

First things first as previously mentioned in reviews be cautious on entry into the site as it is tight, however I have a long twin wheeler and still got in without issue but the caravan coming in behind us hit the cones on the way in. The pitches are great with hedges separating them to give plenty privacy and space. There are 2 toilet blocks and as usual they are kept spotless. The kids park is ok but not as good as other sites such as Grassington my daughter lost interest quickly. The main appeal of this site is that it's been chosen as the flagship to have a pub/restaurant on site which cc hope to roll out across the country in time, it's a great idea and what cc sites have been missing. Great to have a social area people can get to know other members and I can see what there trying to do with the menu but worry they may be trying slightly too hard for e.g. my daughter had fish and chips, everything is cooked fresh seems to be the philosophy but the fish was really chewy as it was overcooked and the chips were nice but nothing special that said I prefer this cooking idea then that of heated up ready meals. Was still a pleasant meal and we never got to try the evening meal but looking at other people's they looked lovely. If I had another small criticism it would be that the design is clearly set up as a restaurant and if you are just after a drink you feel you need to sit at the bar especially if on your own. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back especially for the location as you can have a lovely walk to Knaresbrough through the countryside and then get bus back if needed.

Wish I had stayed longer

This newly refurbished site is a credit to the club with it's great new restaurant and bar. Add in fantastic new shower rooms posher than an upmarket hotel room and it all adds up to great value. This will be my new stop off point on the way up to Scotland. See you in December. Knaresborough is also a picturesque and lovely place to shop and eat just down the road.

4 Days of tranquillity

We needed 4 days near to Harrogate, while my wife attended a conference, and Knaresborough was just right. More than that, she needed to be as neat as the proverbial new pin, so the facilities needed to be just right. Not to waste words, they were: laundry, dryers, showers, all performed well.

Crowded Feeling

On entering this club-site, we parked as directed by road markings "New Arrivals" and went to the office to book-in, we were the asked {Abruptly i might add} to move the caravan as we were blocking the entry. We have read other reviews who mentioned this problem, so C & M Club, you need to change the access to this site. The site feels small and crowded, lacks any shrubbery, too much gravel, on other sites there appears to be divisions of hedges or other greenery/ pot plants etc. here, nothing. The meal we had in "The Wanderer" was good, pleasant staff, menu was adequate, not a "Bar" more of a "Bistro". Location was good for visiting local attractions, bus stop 2 mins walk from site, buses going to Knaresborough/Harrogate/Ripon every 2 hours, so planning is essential.

Shower nightmares

A revisit to this site after the refurbishment. Excellent pitches with extra service pitches if you need them. New reception block, restaurant and toilets are five star. Having visited wharfdale after there refurbishment I hoped this would be as good. My only criticism was the men’s showers. They were very very poor and must be the worst ones I have come across. I tried all six whilst we stayed there and only one showe was usable. Even the new block the two showers were abismal. NO PRESSURE. Several of the mixer taps were leaking water out reducing the pressure. I spoke to the warden who said there was poor pressure in the old block. Then why wasn’t it fixed. New showers not working correctly need fixing. The second shower in the old block was fine so why weren’t the others? My wife said the female ones were excellent so let’s get the men’s fixed.

Breath of Fresh Air!!

Having just returned from a 3-night stay on the newly refurbished site at Knaresborough, it really is a breath of fresh air and hopefully, the way forward for the Club. The pitches are all a good size and well spaced out and the site is well laid out. The only criticism with the main layout is some confusion caused to some drivers with the reception building being on the right as you arrive. The two lanes are clearly marked with NewArrivals on the left, but some new arrivals insist on stopping in the right hand lane and completely block access for those already on site. We were on pitch 39 which is on the extreme right of the site as you enter and we felt that pitches on this side of the site could benefit from a service point, otherwise you either have to walk right round or, as a number of people were doing, cut through the hedges and across other pitches to get water / empty toilet waste etc. The toilet / shower blocks were spotless and well maintained, with the additional facilities adjoining the Bistro being of a very high standard. The Wanderer Bistro / Bar is a very welcome addition to a club site and we enjoyed one of the best meals out that we have had for a long time. Friendly and helpful staff; excellent food served on hot plates and well presented and all in a friendly, warm and cosy atmosphere. The Club have set a high standard here and it is hoped that as other similar facilities come on line throughout the network, this high standard can be maintained. Not sure about allowing dogs in the Bistro however. We are dog owners, but our dog stayed in the van while we ate. There were dogs in the bistro and they were well behaved, but it is an eating establishment and one staff member told us that they have already had to recover a seat due to animal damage and also replace plates due to diners putting their food plate on the floor for the dog to lick!!! We were told that we are also to be 'threatened' with a large screen TV in the Bistro on the approach to the World Cup. Please, NO!! This will completely change the ambiance of the Bistro for quiet dining and is likely to turn the whole place into nothing more than a noisy bar for those wanting to watch the football. Most vans have TV and if people want to watch the match they can do so, but many just want to enjoy a quiet, pleasant evening or afternoon having a drink or enjoying a meal. We will certainly be back to Knaresborough if only to enjoy the Wanderer Bistro again (hopefully without being forced to watch TV during our meal. A great improvement by the Club - hope to enjoy similar facilities at other sites soon.

Autumn weekend

Weekend visit for the first time since the refurbishment, good Yorkshire welcome from the warden on Friday lunchtime, yes the entrance Is tight but if you are careful there is no problem. Stayed on one of the new pitches, good size plenty of space around the pitch. Visited the Bistro on Saturday night, food of a good quality and good pint of real ale, wine found to be overpriced. As previously stated this is not the place to go and just have a drink and watch the sport on a night like previously, it would of been good to have an area were you could just sit and have a drink, in the summer it will be good to sit outside in the patio area, again another good stay at KnaresboroughEnter

Lovely improved site

We visited this site last year (before the refurb) and we liked it and couldn't wait to go back once the refurb was complete. Our visit didn't disappoint. There's a new tarmac road leading to new serviced gravel pitches, the showers are nice and new, new dog exercise area, there is a entrance and an exit (where before it was the same) and a fantastic bar/restaurant. The wardens were lovely and so was Adam in the restaurant (very friendly and helpful). Thank you guys for our lovely stay.
