We stayed here over February half term. A beautiful location, small site, really clean and super facilities.
We were made to wait until exactly 12pm until the site opened to enter, even though this meant that the back up of caravans was onto the public road. Do wardens realise that we don't arrive a few minutes early to wind them up, the traffic plays a big part of timings and you are limited as to where you can stop when towing.
The Wanderer is a great addition - no disturbance from it at all and a lovely option to have prepared food on site. However, we waited ages for our food and the facility was not full. Perhaps more staff needed?
Great site all in all, one to return to.
My wife and I have spent a lovely week on this site, as our 1st visit we were looking forward to it especially after the refurbishment, the site was just as you would expect from a club site, clean and tidy, the pitches were a good size and the facilities spotless although the water pressure in the male showers was a bit low, the wardens were very friendly and helpful, we tried the new bistro and was very impressed and was somewhat bemused by the negative comments, we found the food to be excellent quality and definitely matched the prices we paid, very good wine list and gin selection, the bar prices we found to be on par with other local establishments but with the added bonus of being quite literally 2 minutes away from my caravan, a lovely ambience but must say on Sunday the service was slow and specials was not mentioned, visited a total of 4 times (1,takeaway & 3 eat in) this is a definite asset to the site and hope the club open more like this on further sites.
Had a lovely 4 days here and lots to do in York, Knaresborough and Harrogate. As it was wet and windy we used the bistro for a change of scenary. Food was generally very good but maybe the kids
Menu needs to not try so hard. Chips rather than wedges as portions were quite large. Did feel a bit like we weren’t overly welcome in the bistro due to the kids but as ever they sat and ate and didn’t run around which is more than I can say for people’s dogs, not a fan of barking dogs being told to shush but still carrying on. It will be great in the summer being able to sit outside and have a nice pint. Wash facilities were excellent and I was offered help by a passing warden when the wind helped me with my awning!!
Overall good and a lovely new playground that will appeal to many. Would like a pitch up there next time.
We are generally never let down by club sites as this one is no exception. The facilities were clean and new. It has to be said though that the power of the men’s showers was very poor - far better in the ladies apparently.
The bistro was a nice touch and widely used. Although only 50% of Guinness poured was correct ......
No Radio
First time here. Only second outing as novices, found the site to be very clean, facilities were top notch, staff very helpful and friendly. Ideally situated for York,Ripon Thirsk, Harrogate and obviously Knaresborough. Would definitely visit again, hopefully when the weather is a bit warmer.
We travelled overnight from Cornwall and arrived a little earlier than forecasted. Despite a polite phone call and
request our attempt to get in failed, being advised that they were involved with cleaning and opened could only deal with our arrival at 1200. We duly arrived at 1145 and on the stroke of 1200 a lady appeared and we completed the 5 minute booking in process.
The site is clean and tidy, the shower block a delight.
£10 a week for weak-signalled wi-fi on one device only is prehistoric and expensive.
Felt that we were ‘punters’ rather than the members of a subscription based ‘club’.
Perhaps we are over-demanding but perhaps not.
This is the second club site we have been to as we prefer the inexpensive CL sites. So as a winter treat we thought to give the site a try.
On arrival we had a warm welcome and was told we could pick any free pitch then come back to reception for a key fob for the electric barrier system. We pitched up and my Wife went down to reception with our little dog to collect a barrier key. She got a telling off from staff for bringing the Dog into the reception. Now, there are no signs anywhere whatsoever that states 'no dogs', the reception is rather large and very sparse save for a long counter and a collection of keys hung up on the back wall and that's it, no food for sale, nothing but bare walls and a counter.
Everything on site is very new and spotless with all the usual club site services laid on. The toilet-shower blocks are so clean you could eat your dinner off the surfaces. There is a new Bistro which looked very modern but we didn't try it out due to another reviewer mentioned the bar prices. Pitching up was very easy with no adjustment levelling. There is a local Pub within spitting distance called the Guy Fawkes Arms. They welcome dogs in the main bar, we didn't eat in the restaurant but as I am fairly local I know it is regarded as one of the best in the area for food.
The site is actually in a village called Scotton and the market town of Knaresborough is a couple of miles down the road. There is a beautiful riverside walk into Knaresborough from a small car park up the road south on the right. The village of Ripley is not too far away that has a famous ice cream parlour that usually has massive cues outside on a weekend. Also in Ripley is Ripley castle and grounds with a large lake to wander around. The gardens and lake area are free admission most weekends. In the village is a pub called 'The Boars Head' that does fine dining.
To be fair you could spend a month at the site and still not see all that is on offer in a twenty odd mile radius. If you do your research before hand you wont be disappointed.
All in all we had a wonderful weekend of doing absolutely nothing on a very clean and tidy site. I think the sites reception would do very well if it served as a shop selling essentials including blue and pink please, as we nearly ran out. Maybe that is in the pipeline.
We returned yesterday from our first visit to the site and cannot rate it highly enough. The facilities are excellent and exceptionally clean and the Bistro is a lovely addition, and we had a good meal in their on Friday night, our dog was also made most welcome.
The site is a short distance from the Guy Fawkes Arms pub and a comfortable walk along the road into Knaresborough itself (we also walked to Knaresborough via the Nidd Gorge).
Special thanks to the Warden who helped us get straight on our pitch as our Motor Mover failed and also to the kind gentleman who assisted with our Jockey Wheel problem yesterday (only our 3rd trip out so we are still learning!).
We would highly recommend the site and can't wait to come back.
This is indeed a good site with great facilities and everything is new, shiny and spotless.
Our break was spoilt as We had neighbours being rowdy in their awning until early hours, just plain selfish. I don't drive for 6.5 hours to hear drunken conversation complete with hacking cough from someone. Go in your van and let half of the site sleep!
Bistro was lovely, but 4 staff, 2 in kitchen and 2 front of house wasn't enough, sadly we had to wait for an hour for desserts, despite also chasing them up several times.
Management need to check the industry standard for what constitutes a large glass of wine!
For rest and relaxation this site, on this occasion, didn't provide.
Well how refreshing to have such good humoured wardens. Nothing too much trouble and even when site electrics went down no negative attitude, just sorted.
The facilities are immaculate and the onsite bistro was superb. The serving staff were friendly and very efficient and the chef was more than willing to accommodate alterations to the menu.
Altogether a very pleasant experience, we shall return. very best wishes to all the staff there.
