One of the Best!

Have been trying to book for this site for several months and managed to get a late cancellation. Only stayed 3 nights but they were very enjoyable. The site itself is well laid out, good sized pitches and so quiet. Caters more for adults than children - there is a play park but it was not used at all for the duration of our stay. The main facility building is usual standard for a Club site, but the new facilities built into The Wanderer building are beautiful. Piped music in the toilets/showers and really hot water. The pitch capacity has been extended using the top field - mainly service pitches but a few standard pitches also. The dog walk and field is great - our pup loved his off lead moments amongst the buttercups and although there were a lot of dogs on site, there were plenty of opportunities to have the field to himself. Bus stops for each direction are right outside of the site entrance, so perfect for getting around. We went into Knaresborough - Drakes Fish and Chips for lunch was absolutely delicious and a must if you are visiting the town! The bus fare was £6.00 each way. We did use The Wanderer for drinks and a meal on the last night. It was very nice, welcoming and good food but not as well utilized as we have expected. We definitely look forward to returning to Knaresborough (if availability allows) as we really enjoyed the ambience of the site, location and wardens who were very friendly.

Great stopover, and for us, a future few days to explore

We are a couple of motorhomers, on our way North. We chose this site as a welcome rest space, after a long first day hop. The ste was easy to find, efficient, and clean. Our pitch was in the right place for our water fill up, but as usual, motorhome grey waste emptying at our leaving, meant another trip around the one way system. Why service points have to be together is needing thought. The restaurant is excellent, and we even put in a walk down the gorge nearby, which tempted us to rue the "stopover" night decision......We will be back for more. Visited Ripley castle on leaving, which was superb, but our intended visit to Brimham Rocks was cut out due to our sat nav taking us down an increasingly narrow lane.....We thought the risk of farm traffic too high for a look at a rock formation

Seriously concerned

Loved our visit here everything as expected from a club site. Excellent food at fair prices with friendly staff (even though waitress cleared plates whilst others were still eating and then asked if they would like anything else - perhaps training?). I am seriously concerned about the reviewer who commented that they could not leave a 5 year old alone in the play area because of its location. There is signage at every cmc site banning such behaviour even when the area is in the middle of the site. I know 5 year olds vary but is 5 really old enough to leave a child anywhere unattended. Rant over. Realistically, the playground is in a corner so most people don't get all the noise. However I feel the club have not risk assessed this. There are 2 entrances to the playground. One is just 5 metres from the gate to a back lane/road used by many members for walking dogs and away from busy roads/traffic. Frighteningly, it would be so easy for a child to be snatched (or watched......etc ) in a matter of seconds and driven away. If a child isn't supervised the potential consequences are unthinkable. We all want to enjoy our breaks and relax. We found walking from the site restrictive as for most it meant getting the car out to access them. There is the nidderdale river close by but walking routes are not marked well and it's easy to get lost.

Quiet Site

This is a lovely well laid out site with a feeling of space and both facilities kept clean. Didn't use Bar/Bistro or children's play area so marked it in the middle (none with us.) There is a bus stop at the entrance for Harrogate to Ripon via Knaresborough – no bus on Sunday. We walked from the site along the Nidd Gorge into Knaresborough. The river was quite low & the path not muddy as there had been little rain. Enjoyed a fish & chip lunch at Drakes (quite near to Sainsburys) then caught the bus back to site.

Lovely

he site has only hard standings, unfortunately we find these extremely difficult to peg an awning, otherwise a great site with the 'new' bar/bistro, excellent food, wine, beer and indoor/outdoor seating, had friends visit and they were well impressed.

Peaceful stay

We visited the Knaresborough site in May, although we have stayed here before it was a good number of years ago and I have to say the site was unrecognisable. The welcome we received from one of the wardens was very friendly. I feel that the site is laid out well and the pitches were well kept. The facilities were spotless and the general appearance of the site was excellent. We chose to stay at Knaresborough as our son had asked us to go away with him and his young family as it was close to his home and it was to be their first experience of holidaying in their own caravan and it was listed as suitable for families. We both chose to stay in the area close to the park as we thought it would be good for our grandchildren, aged 2 and 5. I must say we were very disappointed with the facilities for young children, the notice on the park gate said it was only suitable for over 5yrs, which left our granddaughter disappointed as she has enjoyed her holidays with us at other club sites and particularly likes the swings, climbing frame and slides provided for toddlers. Our other problem was that the park was tucked away in the corner so we were unable to let the 5yr old go to the park on his own, (something he has enjoyed at other club sites when holidaying with us) as this meant we could not keep an eye on him. I do feel that when a site is advertised as suitable for families, the park in particular should cater for younger children too, plus on other sites the park is in the middle of the field which allows young families to feel safe in letting children spread their wings a little and make new friends, perhaps this is why we only saw four children on site.

Excellent

Just had a week here, could not fault it, very peaceful and quiet, well kept site. Wardens really friendly and helpful, bistro is a nice place, especially if you don't fancy going out in the car looking for somewhere to eat,. We have already booked again for next year. Pitches really big, we were up on the top by the super pitches

Wrong information

This is a lovely site with a great new building facility / bistro, just unfortunate that they forgot to include a dish washing area in it. So if you pitch on the first 4/5 pitches make sure you have a plastic trolley with you for the trek to the other block. The edge was taken off our visit by the lack of empathy and local knowledge of the warden. Although the site leaflet states, "if you wish to stay after 12 noon on your day of departure, please enquire at reception" I suggest you don`t bother. She abruptly dismissed any request saying that they never allow it at this site, as if it was criminal to even ask!!! My biggest "bug - bear" followed, when I came to ask where I could park the motorhome at Ripley, since we wanted to cycle from that point, if we could not stay on after 12 noon. Her local knowledge let her down, since she said she did not know anywhere at that place to park and was very unhelpful in suggesting anywhere else. In fact, when we got there, there was a huge FREE car park just before you arrive at the castle, which was an ideal spot. Therefore, although this site is very good, don`t expect free guidance on the locality, since like I, you will be directed to the information booth next door to work it all out for yourself. Top tip, if you want a copy of the cycle or walking map from the booth, take a photo of it on your phone, otherwise they will charge you for a copy at the office!!!!!!!!!

Great 2 day stop over

We stopped here for 2 nights on our journey up to Scotland. Site was very clean and felt new. The pitches were large and level, I read another post that someone thought it was like staying at a car park. That may have been then but the building work is complete and the place feels more at home. My only gripe for the whole trip was as we were getting ready to leave an absolute idiot decided to fly a drone from outside reception all over the camp site filming from above. Firstly I work in the aviation industry and what he did was against the law flying close to the public. Second I am supprised he was allowed to do this or had permission( they must have known). Third if that had come down by accident onto a caravan site who would pay for my damage. Gripe over we had a great stay and would return next time on way past.
