Traditional seaside fayre nearby

Surprisingly quiet during October half term and a nice spacious site clearly not very busy, disappointing the play area was shut at this time when clearly children wanted to use it. Yet more warden variability with our lhd motorhome and safari room (intending to use it) eliciting the debate as to where we can park and how, other wardens dictate to us which side to use according to make sure we don't overlook anyone else's awnings but here the fire regulations debate reigns supreme. Always ignites a chuckle or two. Toddler washroom was good but no heating at the end of October, another reviewer said disabled room which was adjacent was not heated either recently, potentially a fault there? We use gas very sparingly but WHY OH WHY has the club not gone into this century with letting you buy gas cylinders on card? For years anywhere else it's fine but the club remains behind the times here. When we had a problem with our 2nd (lite) cylinder we discovered it had a faulty valve at the top I had to cycle two miles to a fee charging cash machine to get cash to replace our empty standard cylinder because of this. A minor gripe, I'm fit, I cycle a lot, it was dry but what about less able folk that are clearly within the clubs demographic? Time to get with it, years of wifi moaning worked but will this? Though on that moot point We have given up on club wifi, inconsiderate other members overwhelming capacity renders it useless pretty quickly, I admire the efforts being made to address this but we go without wifi for our trip, it can be done you know, if it's vital we travel to a wifi hotspot. A view from Google Earth of the site nearly put us off, it's in a sea of huge mobile home sites, thankfully these less than attractive (to me at least) buildings are well concealed from overt vision, good job. Usual good club facilities, quite a limited shop but ample local attractions within easily travelling too. Usual problems with member behaviour, inability to flush toilets, ditto to clean up after washing up and snearing at children daring to enjoy themselves. But you see that everywhere usually and we are used to it now.

Mixed feelings

We spent the last week of the season here and found this site in a lovely part of Somerset with nice places to visit and interesting places to see, even in November. We did not come for the famous local carnivals though I know a lot do. We pitched near a service point only to find it was rubbish disposal only, no water or toilet disposal. There was noise from the adjoining commercial sites, and the lack of a dog walking area was a negative too. The pitches were large and flat as we have come to expect. The site was winding up for the winter and not too busy. Still the wardens found the need to moan about my doggie pen encroaching on the grass, rules are rules I suppose, We have visited 33 different club sites so far and never had a problem before. Maybe it has been a long season.

Peaceful Site

A pleasant site, very peaceful and in a good location for walking. Only a couple of negatives: Site leaflet refers to Main Block and Small 2nd Block for toilets/showers, but plan doesn't say which is which, and if they are different sizes on the plan you need a ruler to see which is which! Which matters, as cleaning times differ. Only one was open for our visit, fair enough, it was November. It would have been helpful to have been told this on arrival however, as it would have been to be told that none of the cleaning times in the leaflet were correct, and it was closed from 11 to 12. I of course turned up at 11.10, having waited for it to open at 11 as per the leaflet. I saw a warden leaving it and asked him when it opened, he pointed to the sign blocking the door (which I couldn't read without glasses) and told me it was closed until 12. No apology for being given wrong information, spoke to me like I was an idiot for not knowing. Two hours of a short stay wasted. Shame to have an otherwise lovely visit marred by this sort of silly, thoughtless thing. It is also surprising that as site with 140 pitches only has two service points, so some pitches are a long way from a tap and waste water drain. Unusual for a Club site.

Comment from The Caravan Club:

Many thanks for taking the time to write a review and we are delighted you found the site peaceful and you liked the location. With regards to the toilet facilities, we are sorry to hear you had some issues with this. At this time of year the wardens do advise on arrival that the grass area is closed and that only one toilet block is open, pointing this out on the site map. The toilet block opening times are displayed outside the toilet block and they always have a toilet open for use during cleaning times. Please also note there are 4 service points on the site for 140 pitches. However at this time of year there are 81 pitches and 2 service points open. Pitches are available close to the service points for convenience. We hope this helps explain and we apologise for any inconvenience this caused you. Please be assured the wardens want to ensure the site is maintained to a high standard for members on site and are on hand to offer any advice or assistance if needed. Thank you again for leaving a review and we hope this helped to address your concerns.

Antidote for stress

This small but perfectly formed site met all our expectations. Courteous staff, excellent location, spotless facilities all complimented with dry, flat pitches. We could not have asked for anything more. Will definitely return.

First time in our new 'van!

We stayed here one night to try out our new caravan, fresh from the dealers! My parents stayed in their motor home too for moral support and the warden was extremely helpful when they developed an electrical fault - thank you! A very friendly site.

Half Term Break

A well maintained site clearly winding down with facilities reduced. The play area was closed off for either faulty equipment or poor fencing around water, which was quite useful considering it was half term. The warden suggested using the play area on the large site next door for the children to play, but the extremely bad language and loutish behaviour of the residents made this unacceptable, this could be heard late into the night from our pitch. The walk to the beach was the only option, this being a benefit of the site location.

Summer break

Having stayed at the Caravan Club site at Hurn Lane, Berrow, Burnham on Sea between the dates 10-24/08/2015 on pitch 24 (next to the playground) I made comments to the female wardens at the end of the second week and, on the evening before our date of departure with regards to the Mother and toddler room and the extremely bad language coming from the play area adjacent to the CC site play area by yobs at around 2am. This complaint was made to ensure that the very high standards at the site were not spoilt and offering the staff an opportunity to rectify the issues . This was dealt with effectively and efficiently by the regional caravan club manager who advised that he had arranged for a squeegee mop and a bucket for the Mother and toddler room, this is a simple but cost effective resolution to the issue of having no drain in the room. The bad behaviour problem from the adjacent site may take a little longer to resolve and I would suggest that if anyone else experiences the same as us please do let the staff know. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would not like anyone to be put off by our experiences but thought it as well to advise that although we had a problem it was sorted you just need to let the staff know.

September 2015

This is a nice site, but with quite a tight entrance road, the wardens were helpful as you would expect, the site and Burnham are very flat so would suit disabled, if you cycle into Burnham it's about 2 miles, but please wear Hi vis clothing and a cycle helmet, as the road in places is quite narrow and very busy, Burnham it's self is quite nice with Lidl-Tesco and Morrison's, however their was talk that the Morrison's might close, as nice as this site is, I think I would give it a miss in the height of the season, as it sits between commercial sites that could be very noisy, and as I said earlier the tight site entrance and busy main road.
