One of the reasons I joined the club is because of the assured standards and rules and regulations imposed so that all campers can enjoy their time on site.
We arrived to a very pleasant site at the end of July and found a lovely spot to pitch up, all was well, the other campers arrived back from their days out, the bbqs went on and there was the sound of happiness around the camp. After dinner the kids got into a huge gang and started hanging round in front of other families pitches shouting at each other, riding bikes, scooters and anything else with wheels, which was fine until they were still screaming (and I mean SCREAMING!) their heads off until 20.00 the first night, 21.00 the second and 22.00 the third. Surely a campsite is for all walks of life and not just those with loud boisterous families.
We got to bed and all was quiet until at 01.00 in the morning a car was driving around the site.
I got up to use the facilities and the cubicle had lager cans littering the floor, door furniture ripped off and tissue paper all over the place and no one had bothered to use the provided "brush" after them. I tried again the next morning this time no litter but still no use of brush.
This is the first time I have ever put pen to paper but I felt I need too. As the title states, I pay a little bit extra to use club sites so that I know what I can expect when I get there. I will be returning to what is very pleasant site hopefully when things are a little bit quieter
2019 Review - Tried leaving it shortly after leaving in August 2019 but was unable to...so here it is
We stay here every year during the summer hols, other reviews on the site will cover the excellent surrounds re tourist spots, it's very well served all within 15 miles of it's location.
This review is specifically tailored to the site, it's wardens and all things in the middle.
First of all, the Club tends to rotate it's Wardens (at least the summer ones anyway), this needs a rethink, the Summer wardens here are par excellent, Mick & Angie, they know the site inside out and how it works, it is seamless in how it is run, they pay attention to detail, keep the place spotless andhave local area knowledge even locals would be hard pressed to beat.
More so, they actually help make the stay enjoyable, they don't rule the roost with an iron fist, neither do the continually quote the rules, our children are growing up, they're boisterous, opinionated and enjoy Hunters Moon, it's almost their second home, it goes without saying that sometimes they can be a little loud, a little too busy on their bikes but this is where Mick & Angie are different, they seek them out, give them a freindly nod, advise them accordingly and come let us know if things get too much, no heavy chats, no stern warnings, just good wholesome friendly advice which our children adhere to in an instant. At the same time as this, if you have a problem on site, something not right in the utility blocks, pipe blocked, hair dryer not working, toilet faulty...they sort it and pdq.
We like out friends who holiday with us come from 200 miles away, the drive down can be quite 'busy' but as soon as we pull onto the site Angie/Mick take the time to welcome us, their smiling faces are a true tonic after the journey down, it's comforting in some ways to know that we have a holiday in front where those charged with helping us enjoy it are so professional but also so friendly.
Changing the guard here will serve only to upset the blance of what a truly excellent site Hunters Moon is, it is for us by far the best site the club has to offer, everything just works...everything.
Of course there is the cheerily cheerful chap who helps them, he's usually found on the lawnmower thrashing the living shinola out of every last blade of grass he is able to cut, I'm sure Ive spotted him with scissors making a final trim, one day i'm going to park my car so he can't get the mower out, ha! he's actually a real nice guy as are the relief wardens who settled in quite well last year (think this was their first year at HM)
So, this is more of a review of the wardens with the site being secondary, I don't know them outside of HM, they haven't paid me, I haven't been asked to....I simply wanted to pay them a large compliment and make the suggestion to the Club that please, stop rotating club wardens because you really do lose the huge database of knowledge they have when gone....these wardens here enrich our summer hols, without them Hunters Moon won't ever be the same.
A lovely site and location.
Just a few lines to say what a lovely couple of nights we had in March 2020.
We had decided to take advantage of the caravan to complete a quick tour and visiting my brother and sisters before the inevitable 'lock down' came into force.
The site was quiet as expected in these uncertain times. probably a dozen and half units in total.
We were welcomed warmly by the warden and left to our own to pick a pitch and set up. The site was neat and tidy and as ever the facilities were absolutely spotless.
The heathland area surrounding the site is fantastic for walking and cycling with the Sitka trail and many other paths and trails starting only a short distance from the site entrance and then Wareham is only a few minutes away.
All in all a perfect location for both adults and children.
We will definitely return to this lovely site in the future when it re-opens after the Coronavirus problem, hopefully, disappears.
Great site will be back
Very clean site facility’s spotless and staff very friendly and helpful great for cycling and pub nearby very good will definitely return
We'll be back
First timers on this site over Christmas and New year. It was wet it was windy but had a great time walking off site on dry days and touring in the car on wet days! Great welcome on Christmas eve no complaints so they only saw us again when we left.
We will be back!
Good site
Stayed 3 nights early December lovely well maintained clean site. The winter wardens were lovely and friendly couple. Will definitely stay again. Wareham has 13 pubs at least 3 of them are dog friendly ✌
Nice to be back
Have just came back from9 nights here still a great place to stay clean and well maintained
A complete joy
The firds thing i always check out is the toilet block, this one was extremely clean and warm, the showers were roomy with plenty of hooks and seating to put your stuff on. The site itself was very quiet, we stayed on a gravel serviced pitch which was near the entrance so we could here road noise but that didnt bother us at all. Used the tv booster on the hook up panel to get tv signal to watch the england rugby match. had to teather my laptop to my moblie phone data and even then it was a bit slow. Stayed for 4 nights and went to see lots of places. Its a shame there wasnt a bus stop near the site to get into wareham and it was a shame there wasnt a footpath to the walkable pub down the road The silent woman so we could walk there in the evening for a drink, instead we drove there which meant one couldnt enjoy a drink. Was tempted to walk from the site but it was pitch black and would have been to dangerous without a path to go on. Had a warm welcome on arrival, very friendly people, i would go back again for sure.
Great week start of october .
Had a great week at Hunters moon with our two yorkies . Very good walks just off site in wareham forrest with well looked after stone roads/paths . Was able to keep dogs dry when walking on grass would get the soaked . Close to Poole and Bournmouth were dogs are allowed after the end of September .Have already booked again for next year .
Hunter Moon Sept 2019
Hunters Moon is an excellent site at any time of the year for families with children or for the solo caravanner. The wardens ensure that the facilities and the site itself are always clean.
If you are coming to the site from the Wareham roundabout TAKE CARE, the road passes the edge of the forest and is hilly and is nominally 50 MPH. However, there are, as always, drivers who think that this type of road is a chance for them to pretend to be rally drivers and they speed, Whilst we were there on the brow of a hill there was a serious accident with a car speeding over the brow of a hill hitting a group of cycalists coming the other way (reoad closed and at least 3 ambulances).
The only problems with the site is the usual one of the hardstands needing a hammer drill to make holes for the awning pegs. The site is a wi-fi bronze site so sometimes the connection is slooow but it gets there in the end.
The local pub, The Quiet Woman, serves excellent 'home cooked' meals and is well worth a visit.
There is a small supermarket in Wareham and a much larger ASDA in Poole.
All in all this site is well worth a visit, this was our third visit to the site, and I feel that if you want a relaxing break you could do a lot worse than visit Hunters Moon.
