Nice site but, there is always a but.

I have waited a week to write this review so that i let my head rule the review rather than my heart. My wife and I booked at the start of lockdown in March and as we are both front line workers in the NHS and Police we were so looking forward to our holiday and meeting with old friends whom we had not seen for over 18mths. As members the site was exactly as we expected well laid out, good facilities, clean and tidy, although a little out of the way but with great walks from the site. Upon our arrival my wife booked in as I called our friends to say we had arrived. We were allowed entry and quickly found our friends, and pitched up next to them as a pitch was available. My wife went to advise the red haired duty warden only to be verbally abused as she told her which pitch we had taken as unknown to us one of our friends had been chastised by the same warden for parking on the exact pitch we had taken when he had arrived against the club rules, why was my wife verbally abused as it had nothing to do with her. At first we gave her the benefit of the doubt. However as our holiday progressed we realised that this was the norm rather than the exception from two of the wardens whom we believe were partners, I cannot name them as they did not wear name badges but I can describe them the red haired warden and the clean shaven warden whom we believe were the head wardens as the other two, the blonde haired warden and the man with the goatee beard were generally pleasant and helpful. Of our neighbours six couples were victims of the sharp tongue and ignorant attitude of the same two wardens for a various number of reasons. Even under the current situation we find ourselves in there is no excuse for this attitude and gave a sour taste in the mouth to what was a great holiday and I can honestly say in all the years we have used the club never met such awful wardens. As in our professions if we dealt with people in the same manner we would have been severally disciplined as we were always trained to treat people with respect and told to treat people as we would like to be treat. Also members need to be aware that the site is adjacent to a traveller/homeless site which can be very noisy with dogs, children and motor vehicles. The road can be very noisy at times even when you are at the furthest point on the site from the road. I have never felt the need to leave a review but just feel that the wardens in question were so rude and ignorant and clearly had an attitude problem, if they do not like to deal with the membership they should not have come into the job in the first place as i am sure the training given by the club would have focused on customer care. i am aware that this will not do very much and nothing will happen as the club will blame the COVID situation as an excuse as everyone appears to do at this time and they will not be seen or spoken to but felt other members should be aware of our experiences at Hunters Moon.

Great location

Returned to this site after about 10 years. It’s in a great location for Wareham, Studland bay, Old Harry Rocks, Kimmeridge Bay, Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door & many other places. The weather was excellent & we spent all day, every day off site, walking or visiting the places mentioned. We didn’t notice any noise from the travellers site, but we were in the middle of the site. When we arrived, apart from some reserved pitches (not motor home signs) all the pitches left were on grass. This was not a problem to us as we had a fortnight on grass at Incleboro Fields club site, but the pitches left were in a dark area of trees near to the road. If the grass had been cut recently, it wouldn’t have made any difference, but long enough to wet shoes & feet on the first morning. As we were staying for a fortnight we had already decided to move pitches. The warden had said on booking in that we could..... but the lady warden wasn’t quite so happy when we decided to do it. She told me yes we could but we weren’t to go around the site asking all other caravanners if they were moving! Luckily one of the male wardens gave me a list of pitch numbers that would be vacated. We moved to a lovely sunny pitch & thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. Only negative thing we could say is that the grass between pitches was very long. Toilet blocks were immaculate. Just a point to note - the super pitches are all at the entrance to the site, beside the quite noisy main road. Vans were allowed on site from before 12 noon every day.

Insensitive Wardens

Stayed here for two weeks and although site, facilities and location were very good, we found main warden and his wife to be very unfriendly and officious. While sorting caravan out after arrival, we were sharply asked to move car from a vacant pitch nearby with no please or thank you - not a cheerful start to our holiday. Other guests told us that they were also very upset by the rude attitude of the site manager and his wife. This is the first time we have had cause to complain and hope it will be the last. Following government advice we did try to keep within our own bubble by parkIng side by side with friends and family but the Caravan Club does not allow you to reserve pitches when you each arrive at different times. We have never known so many people upset by a warden’s bad attitude. Also, isn’t it about time that the Club had name badges for the wardens?

3 night stay

Arrived at midday and looked to find out booking in procedure as it does vary from site to site. I saw a warden in the office, but at the base of the ramp which lead to the entrance I read, NO ENTRY. I then spotted a sign on the wall which said to ring the site number in order to maintain safety to staff and members of the public. I called the number which was answered by the answer machine....I could see the warden through the glass but she didn't respond to me. Meanwhile a motorhome pulled in beside mine and the driver just walked into the office, I decided to follow. When it came to my turn to be spoken to I remarked about the phone and the woman behind the screen said, 'we haven't got time to answer the phone, we'd be here all day!' I was also told there was an additional notice, which I read on exiting the office. It said that due to poor phone reception new arrivals should enter the shop if they felt able. I found it all a bit confusing, and unnecessary, I also noticed the the words NO MASK, which were chalked on the ramp above the NO ENTRY instruction. I will leave that there as I could say a lot more about her attitude, but I won't. Many other reviewers have commented favourably about the wardens, You can decide for yourself if you visit. The traveller site next door was very noisy at times, so avoid pegs to the right of the site entrance, where you'll also have road noise. I can see why so many people are attracted to the site as there is so much to do in the area, but we won't return. We've stayed at several sites in the Wareham area and this one was sadly nowhere near the top five.

Very disappointing

We have just returned from a 10 night break at Hunters Moon and this is the first time in 10 years of being a committed C&Motorhome member I have felt the necessity to leave a negative review. First of all be warned - very unfriendly and unhelpful wardens. We arrived on Friday 4th September and we were told that despite booking a pitch for a caravan and awning we were informed that all hardstandings were full and we were directed to the grass pitches. Normally this would not have been a problem but it is important to be aware the grass pitches are cramped, damp, dismal and in a valley of trees. There is very little sunlight and the pitches are very small and ours certainly wasn't big enough for an awning. I went back to reception to be told by one of the female wardens that there was nothing at all they could do to help - when I asked if we could move the next day I was snapped at and told the she was far too busy to see whether anybody was leaving the next day. I was almost in tears as the pitch we were on was absolutely awful and the thought of spending 10 nights on it was very upsetting. We then wandered round the site and got chatting to some lovely people who informed us they were leaving the next morning. I then went back to reception to ask if we could move to this vacant pitch the next morning and I was accused of 'hassling people'. I then asked if we could move the next morning and would be able to put our water carrier on the pitch whilst we connected the caravan and I was told that under no circumstances would be able to do that as it was against the rules. Interestingly, another couple we got chatting to informed us that they regularly stayed here and they phoned ahead to get their favourite pitch. There were several pitches with reserved signs on them which was very unusual. Anyway, we did move on the Saturday morning at 8am and our new pitch was much better and we had the advantage of truly wonderful neighbours on all sides - they made our holiday and they were all just as fed up as we were by the attitude of the wardens. In addition to this it is worth noting that there is a traveller site next door and there is lots of noise and disruptions from barking dogs, screaming children and motorbikes racing around all evening. This is obviously not the fault of the C&M club but nevertheless should be pointed out before you book. The area is stunning and the site is clean and tidy - its just a shame the wardens could not be more friendly and obliging as they have been on all other sites we have stayed on over the years. Maybe the Covid situation has taken its toll but there is not excuse for the rudeness and lack of respect shown throughout our stay.

Five Star

This was our first visit to Hunter's Moon, our white peg pitch was fairly central and a good size. The neighbours were really friendly, as were those we met in the queues for the toilets. The Covid restrictions were reasonable and adopted by the majority, we were just happy that the site and toilets were open, so that we could have a break away. The toilets were clean and the staff were friendly. Great location, and will plan to return next year.

Lovely site

Stayed for 6 nights during the August heatwave, and loved it here. We were pitched on the grass field which gave the benefit of some tree shade in the morning and afternoon. It was a bit of a slope, but there was a handy pile of bricks at the back of the pitch which helped with the levelling, and I thought that was a nice touch. The facilities were very good, but the Covid restrictions had reduced capacity in the blocks and with the site being full that created a lot of pressure, but we rarely had to queue, and there were two blocks which helped. Situation is great, we visited loads of places, with Monkey World And Brownsea Island being particular favourites, and Dorset is stunning. Just as good as Cornwall in my opinion, and much easier to get to.

Annual review of sorts.

We stay here every year, we review it every year so as to keep things current.: This year has been different, COVID along with the late opening of the sites has changed the dynamics of the site and it's residents. We stayed late July until mid August and found a different mix of people to the norm, or at least what we're used to, we'd hazard a guess and say that those that usually stay in June early July are mainly those seeking to avoid the school holidays and the melee of boisterous children being let of their leash for the school holidays.  As the site was closed until June this meant that many of those usual residents for June moved into the July/August booking windows thus by default having now to mix in with the school holiday crew etc.  This is where the dynamics were different, as children were not permitted to play in the park due to Covid they took to their bikes/scooters/awnings/pitches, at times this appeared to draw on the patience of those close by not used to large amounts of children in such close (social distancing observed) proximity. There was certainly less tolerance towards the children but given they (the children) have been cooped up for just over 3 months I think all the children we observed were for the most part well behaved.

Some adults tried to circumvent the covid restrictions in place at the utility blocks (band system) due to numbers allowed to use the facikities being restricted/every other cubicle/shower/basin closed off Those abusing the sysrem would simply take a band from the bucket and not return it when leaving, taking it back to their respective vans so they could use it without worry on their next visit. The wardens simply changed the band colours on a regular basis but overall the system and those using it were happy to observe the rules,  queues if there was one was never very long, most people seemed to easily adapt.

Further up a review that mentions the closeness of the pitches and how it was difficult to social distance, they must have been on a different site, Hunters Moon's pitches for the most part are excellent, spacious and easily able to observe social distancing plus the pitches are well maintained, clean and clear of debris.

As for the Wardens, same team as last year, same impeccable service and whats more they were forever with smiles on their faces despite the most likely deluge of varying complaints coming into them on a daily basis, hats off to them for their ability to delegate and full respect to the CC for keeping the team together.

Full marks to the COVID policies of the CC, effective, easy to work with and which allowed one to enjoy their holiday without too much disruption

Hunters Moon, a true family CC site, 2021 is already booked.

Lovely family site

Great site for families, well kept and nice facilities. Great for getting away from the outside world and not to be disturbed if you need a media fast! TV reception was good. The only downside for us was the lack of internet connection. Even with purchasing a day's internet package, we were disappointed. Many other sites we have been on have better signal for personal data that we could use or indeed provide their own wi-fi access.

Bitterly disappointed

We use our van all year round and have a 3-4 week tour in the summer. We booked this summer’s 3 sites prior to Covid. Our third stop was Hunters Moon, we saw some reviews (one has since been removed?) saying pitches were crowded, the busy road is noisy, WiFi signal is extremely poor and proximity of traveller sites the common themes. Sadly, we experienced exactly the same. The service pitches are next to the incredibly busy road with HGVs and aggregate lorries thundering by constantly. The site is crammed in with very little room between pitches and making ‘social distancing’ very difficult. The most disappointing part of the site was the unhelpful, rude warden we met towards the end of our stay (those at the beginning were fab). Nobody predicted the heatwave that came during our stay with weather warnings and constant daytime temps over 34˚ we struggled to keep our 14 week old puppy cool. Our pitch had no shade so sitting in the awning with wet towels for the pup were the best we could do. Increasingly concerned about the puppy we ordered a dog cool vest and fan. We were notified of delivery by courier so I went to reception and was met with a very abrupt warden telling me we had broken the rules as it was not previously approved and was not a part for the caravan. I explained we were unaware of this rule and unfortunately had another parcel due the next day, this was met with a shrug and told they might not be available to receive it as it is against the rules. Having looked through the sheet of Covid rules the site issued on our arrival and a quick look through the Club website my wife went back to reception and spoke to the same warden who stated that it is very clearly set out in the club rules that they are ‘not a sorting office’ and it is not allowed for deliveries to site. She also went on to say that handling parcels puts themselves at risk during the pandemic. This itself is incorrect according to the Government issued information on precautionary methods. Surely if this individual was that concerned about being Covid secure she should enforce the requirement for face coverings to be worn – we observed several people enter the reception without them, one of which was in the shop during my original exchange about the parcel! We tracked the second parcel to ensure we were there for the delivery. The driver said he had already been in reception and the same warden had refused to accept it despite the shop being open! We are a very law abiding family and wouldn't knowingly break rules and have previously had items delivered to club sites and always found staff to be happy to help. We've spent considerable time researching site deliveries and can't find any policy on the club website, so how the warden thought it was ‘clearly set out’ is beyond me. In short, the site is not as nice as any we have been to during 20+ years as members and this individual is enough reason that we definitely will not be returning.
