Summer Holiday 2017

What a fantastic site, a hidden gem within the network – excellent facilities and the wardens are very helpful. This site has got to be one of the best. Only issue is the directions could be a bit better in the CMC manual and you could easily miss the turn to the site just passed the Golf course. Bus stops are right outside the site and for £5 per day for as many journeys as you need. You cannot ride a bike safely from the site in my opinion however you can walk down to the beach – which is 2.5 miles away – however you need to have good walking shoes to do this walk. This walk can be challenging if you are not physically fit. Pool and bar are well staffed and the restaurant food is good we will come back in the future.

Excellent site, but awful wifi

Spent six nights in July. Site has excellent facilities and the wardens are the most friendly and helpful I have met. Very good facilities with swimming pool, restaurant/ bar with entertainment. To echo other reviews, it's a pity about dogs being permitted into the covered extension area to the bar/restaurant. Not every visitor enjoys the company of other peoples dogs when they are dining. I don't think this is particularly healthy. Unfortunately not all dog owners kept their animals on leads and under control and seemed to think other people were happy to accept their dogs roaming around and "visiting" others who were dining.. The food however is excellent quality and good value. With a bus stop immediately outside the site entrance getting around could not be easier. One of the best bus services I have encountered. All sounds great but a major complaint is the abysmally slow and most of the time unusable wifi. Don't waste your money paying for it.

Should ahve read the reviews.....too Many Dogs!

Too many irresponsible dog owners. Dogs allowed to bark all day. Dogs left in unattended caravans whining both during the day and night. Dogs shut in cages in open cars barking at every other dog and whoever passes by. Barking dogs in the external bar area make it a no-go area to those without dogs or just wanting a quiet meal or drink. Not content with one or even two dogs some owners have 4! How do you keep control of that? Kept on a short lead at all times, that is the rule that some ignore. The quietest place is the activities field next to the dog walk! That is, when there are no dogs or unless they are off the lead with owners shouting and dogs fighting. This is a shame as the site itself is fine, great location with some stunning views. I booked for 10 days, managed to stay for 6. What a relief to get away and never to return!

A superb first stay on this lovely site

We stayed at Hillhead for the first time the beginning of July, what a gem of a site!! Can't fault it! From the location and the site layout itself, to the upkeep and cleanliness of the facilities, and the grounds, all beautifully carried out by some of the friendliest wardens I have come across so far. Nothing was too much trouble for them they were always smiling and always had the time to help with whatever query you had for them,"Well Done" and "Thank you" to every one of you for a lovely stay. Great dog walking facilities with superb views, and the dog was also allowed in the outside conservatory area of the clubhouse/restaurant. The weather was also superb - which always helps. It is convenient for trips by bus(it stops just outside the main entrance) to both Brixham (2 miles away) and to Dartmouth via the bus to Kingswear (2 miles away) then the ferry across to Dartmouth. Torquay and Paignton are 5-6 miles away by car , 3 supermarkets on the ring road in Paignton. Would have no hesitation in recommending this site and we will definitely be back.

Amazing weekend at Hillhead.

Amazing site with really good facilities especially for families. Really lovely heated outdoor swimming pool. A decent childrens play area and an area to kick a ball about overlooking the gorgeous coastline. We had our dog with us & that worked well. On site there was a reasonably sized dog walking area (partitioned part of field.) Within a few minutes on foot you can get to the off road wooded footpath (which leads to a beach.) Also a few minutes drive took us to the National Trust car park where you could do a hilled walk to beach. It was a beautiful secluded stoney/rocky beach. Although you cannot take dogs into club house, the large conservatory was really comfortable and you could see the entertainment. A good selection of drinks and entertainment in evening was a quiz then a singer. I think in school holidays there is also some children entertainment. There is a bus to the entrance of the site to Brixham etc (which we didn't use.) Staff on site were really friendly. Facilities were extremely clean. I appreciate that the weather made it easy to have a fabulous weekend as it was beautifully sunny but the site was very good!

great holiday

We stayed here for almost three weeks and it is a tremendous site. The wardens do a cracking job in what is a very demanding location, mainly due to the huge amount of grass, hedges and trees they need to control. Despite this challenge we found them all to be friendly and very helpful The site has a nice swimming pool and some excellent sea view pitches and there is bags to do in the area which can only be described as stunning. If you have not been here yet I suggest you get in your car, hitch up, and do so now. If there was one thing I would change it's the total access to all the restaurant areas by dogs. When we visited for a meal it was like crufts with some animals barking loudly and others making a nuisance due to some inconsiderate dog owners. There are several dining areas in the facility and I would suggest that one of them could easily be designated as "dog free".

Disappointed in the Dog walking area !

We found the the pitches far too close together felt very cramped, we were on a full service pitch. Caravan and car were parked all at different angles. Showers and toilet blocks need up dating and at times found them very smelly! Our main problem being the dog walk far too small and not secure !! Lots of dogs escape into the pitches though the hedge!! If the weather was bad we would have left but because weather was very good we went out every day so we wouldn't have to use the dog walk. Problem could be resolved very easily because there is a huge field adjoining the dog walk field just make it larger and FENCE IT . Nearly every other customer had at least two dogs !! When you get people just standing with their dogs just talking in a very small unsecure field it's hard when you're dogs what's to run and play. Because of this we will not be returning to this site.

Excellent site

it was our first visit here and its a fantastic site, well maintained, all the facilities you want, with very friendly and efficient wardens. It's ideal for motorhomers who want to explore the area as the bus stop is outside the site entrance with buses to Brixham and Kingswear, Dartmouth. There are pleasant walks, steam trains and historic houses all within easy access. Its a site we shall return to.

Stayed for May half term week. Beautiful views, excellently kept site the toilet blocks were immaculate and the pitches very well kept. A credit to all the staff. I would recommend this site to all as there is something for everyone. Will be returning next year without hesitation.
