This is our fifth visit, we have loved the site over the years but this year we were disappointed by some bits.
Positives first, great location, easy transport links, pool, the site is well maintained, the toilet and shower blocks are well looked after and the place feels really loved. there are some great pitches
Negatives.
Some pitches are less defined by hedges and there seemed to be a lot of less considerate people this year. Made some of the pitches feel really cramped. The family next to us were quite drunk and loud and we spent several hours listening to them with our kids unable to sleep.
Now I appreciate that it's not up to the site wardens to manage other people's kids. We have two and they are our responsibility. But to give a couple of examples.
On the first day, our 10 year, was cycling round the site, following the one way system and had been threatened to not go fast. We do a lot of cycling, he is very sensible. He came back to us sobbing his heart out. A group of teenagers ragging it round the site in the wrong direction had swerved round onto the gravel to avoid the car coming towards them, one couldn't stop and rammed straight into my son who had been cycling in the right direction following the car. They then started shouting at my son saying he was a stupid idiot and swearing at him. All I can say is what a bunch of bullies. They were doing some idiotic cycling, going too fast and not in the direction of traffic! We went for a walk with our son and tried having a word with the kid after it happened but it was pointless.
There seemed to be loads of early teens just racing round the site too fast, not following the one way system and being generally loud. They continued cycling at dusk with no lights either.
We also had problems one nights with kids knocking at the caravan windows and running away, the site did have security this year, so we mentioned it to them.
Seemed to be a lot of loose dogs about too, or dogs on really long leads that ended up in other people's pitches. Plus a few loose around pitches that kept popping through the hedges, not all seemed to be considerate owners about picking up after dogs and dogs just going anywhere. Know dogs need to do their business, but do they have to be taken for a walk to have a poo outside our pitch? Oh and I'm not a dog hater by the way!
Such a shame as we have had so many great years here. We ended spending most the time off site this time, sadly think we may have a break next year 🙁
Fantastic
We stayed at Hillhead last week all I can say is we found it amazing. The pitch we chose was a hardstanding which was huge with private hedges.
We had sea views and the toilet block was very close. The staff were very friendly. We dont have children but even in the heart of the school holidays it was quite peacful and relaxing. The toilets were always clean and showers. The location of the site is perfect for exploring all the best south Devon has to offer. Bus stop right outside. We normally avoid entertainment sites but Hillheads entertainment venue is lovley quite small and we enjoyed the acts typical caravan clubhouse entertainment but good.
We used the swimming pool in the mornings adults only was very nice. The only tiny thing we werent keen on was we had a rather noisey family opposite who thought it was ok to laugh joke and drink in thier awning very noiserly until 1am but they were on holiday as well so we didnt complain. Most of the hardstanding pitches we viewed were very spacious. The site is quite hilly so if you struggle with hills you may want to coose a pitch at the top of the site.
We cant wait until next year as we will be returning time and time again.
Lets hope the caravan club keeps up its high standards at Hillhead.
Many Thanks for a glorious holiday. 10/10
Great family get-away
Lovely clean site with plenty for the children to do, reasonably price drinks and food.
Easy access to local area either by car or bus.
Highly recommend it for a club site, looking to go back next year.

2017 Caravan & Motorhome Club "Best site Award"
And the winner of this years Caravan & Motorhome Club "Best Site" goes to.......wait for it.....Its Hillhead. Unique pitches with privacy, beautiful sea views and lots to keep the kids happy. We were sceptical on how such a big site could deliver the clubs standards, whilst catering for such big numbers...but well done to one and all, you did it.
And the winner of the Cheesiest entertainment goes to....
Beautiful site
This is our 3rd year at Hillhead and we absolutely love it. The facilities are excellent never had a problem getting seats at the pool and despite been very close to the pool and bar wasn't noisy at all. As a dog owner with 2 dogs we love the facilities for dogs, the dog walk is one of the best but come on other dog owners pick your own mess. We will definitely be back next year.
Disappointed
Location of site fantastic you would struggle to find anywhere with such closeness to all that Devon has to offer.
The entertainment lacked in the entertaining side of things all performers were absolute rubbish.
The food was normal pub food at an extortionate price..jacket potatoe with tuna was £9.00 I nearly died.So a meal for 2 adults and 2 children was near on £80.00 and to be honest no where near worth it.
Swimming pool was also great for the kids. But it felt lime most of the times that it was occupied by Germans as it always seemed to be the same couples on lounges no matter what time of day it was.Dump the kids in the pool and get pissed seemed to be there motto.
Would I go again no I don't think so to this site will probably try Devon elsewhere though.
Hillhead haven.
We have recently returned from a relaxing break at Hillhead. It was our second visit and we were so impressed last year that we recommended the site to friends. The site over all is outstanding and the wardens work hard to maintain the high standard.
However, I did feel that on some days the swimming pool was too cold to enter, compared to last year when the water temperature seemed a lot warmer.
Service in the clubhouse continued to be great but the meal sizes had definitely shrunk! Never mind maybe I was eating too much anyway.
We did feel a little tense during Bingo as everyone was told to be quiet or the game would be over, it felt like a school residential when your teacher threatened to send you home if you did not go to sleep! ..........We continued to play each night.
All in all a fantastic site that we will return to as no site compares to a Caravan Club site.
Disappointed........
We visit this site several times a year and normally love it but our recent visit could only be described as disappointing.
Each morning we were awoken by a dog chorus as opposed to a dawn chorus...the restaurant conservatory area was a bit like a visit to Battersea dogs home...I do like dogs BUT the club ought to start charging for them....to discourage owners of multiple dogs from joining the club just for this purpose.
The pitch was a bit like a mud bath..appreciate this is to do with weather and perhaps could not be helped.
My biggest complaint however is the sheer volume of teenagers loitering around the site with apparantly nothing to do. Standing on the tables in the park, pulling branches of the trees, knocking the emergency fire signs over, using offensive language in the park, bikes and scooters with no lights going against the one way system......it all felt a little anti-social...I certainly felt.precluded from the park with my two children after about 1930. I wondered where their parents were? Oh yes, decorating their wind breaks with fairy lights and pegging them to within an inch of their pitch boundary...
I would be very interested to know how many site visitors where non members?
The wardens work tirelessly as always but I wonder if 'security style patrols' should be added to their workload.
We will be back...but only when the masses have gone

Great for families
This is by far the biggest CMC site we have visited, but the clever pitch layouts avoided that hemmed in feeling. We were on a serviced pitch and they were spacious and relatively private. With restaurant and entertainment available in the evening you wouldn't expect it to be particularly quiet in the evenings, but it felt at times that children racing along our area on bikes and scooters, late enough for it to be totally dark (which in itself was a safety risk) were making the most noise. The facilities were all clean and well maintained. Not too sure how appropriate it was for one gentleman to be gutting his freshly caught mackerel in the veg prep area?? The wi if was dire - no way it should be categorised as silver - even opening emails could take 10 minutes!
We were blest with lovely weather - so nothing much could really spoil the enjoyment of taking our grandchildren away for a holiday!
