Haycraft revisited

We received a warm welcome from the wardens Andie and Al when we arrived on 4th July 2020. All the pitches were immaculate. During our stay the shower and toilet facilities were regularly kept spotless and set up to adhere to the Government guidelines. Our thanks to Andie and Al, as well as to their assistant wardens, Pauline and Keith for an enjoyable three week stay. We look forward to returning later in the year.

What a pearl of a campsite

This was a last minute booking for us as our original booking was cancelled due to the campsite not opening this year. Are we glad that happened, this is a fantastic little site, run by Andie and Al they are an amazing couple who are friendly and couldn’t help more. The campsite was spotlessly clean and although we never used the facilities due to COVID, we could see that they were cleaned regularly. The dog walk area was great too as they had made the outside area one way so you never had to walk close to anyone. There was also an area of field for the dogs too. My three loved it. Nothing was too much for the owners and we loved it so much we are going to return next year. Andie and Al thank you from Richard and Elaine with the big Hobby

Peaceful and relaxing. Lovely walk down Studland beach then off to a great pub for a perfect pint

Our default site for the Swanage area. Smallish site with well spaced, terraced pitches. The facilities are adequate, well kept and powerful showers. For dog owners there’s a good size field and dog walk. The Isle of Purbeck area is perfect for relaxing, walking and enjoying the beautiful countryside. Close by is sandy Studland beach, Corfe Castle, Wareham and Lulworth Cove. There’s some quite excellent pubs such as The Bankes Arms, The Scott’s Arms and the quirky Square and Compass, to name a few. The new wardens, Andie and Al, deserve a mention. So helpful and obliging. We, crime of all crimes, forgot our corkscrew. they lent us theirs until we could buy a new one the following day. Like Arnie, we’ll be back.

Lovely small peaceful site.

This is an excellent site just over 2 miles from the edges of Swanage Town Centre. - Therefore perfect for us, as we attend the longstanding twice a year Swanage Blues Festival. The Wardens warned us on arrival to try to avoid the end pitches of the lower level as they had flooded over recent days. We accordingly chose a pitch on the upper level. However, we had extreme winds one night and have a pop top campervan. There is no shelter from the wind on the upper level, and we had to close the roof one night for fear of damage. This is no criticism of the wardens at all as they were in their first few days at this particular site, and had given us advice on avoiding the pitches that had flooded.

Lovely little site

We stayed here 15th to 19th Sept and would love to go back. Although the site was fully booked we were able to choose from 5 different pitches and selected pitch 8, a grass pitch near the entrance which was a great choice with lots more room and more privacy than the hard standing sites and not in full sun all day which suited us We didn’t see anyone on pitch 4 (see previous review) but it did look slightly small. The site is perfect for the steam railway (5 mins walk), Corfe, Swanage, Kimmeridge Bay, plenty of local walks including down to the coastal path - must visit dinosaur footprints at Keates Quarry. It was really peaceful especially at night (apart from the hooting of owls!) - no kids when we stayed. The staff were helpful, good dog walk area and we would highly recommend this site.

Good site

Good site, away from the main road. It can be very windy on the top section of the site. Wardens friendly and keep pitches and areas tidy, however the toilet/shower block needs attention, facilities are clean but they are very tired. Steam railway within easy walking which can take you to Swanage & Corfe Castle. There are walks from site too.

Not a great stay

Our pitch No.4 was inadequate. It was in a corner and had a slope in two directions. Despite moving the 6m van to every possible direction, the best we ended up with was the drivers front wheel down a slope. It wouldn't hold on chocs due to pitch of slope so we spent 2 nights sleeping at a jaunty angle. Would not have been room to wind out the awning. Site was fully booked. Nice enough place but too crammed in for us. If you are going there I'd suggest you avoid Pitch No.4.

Good, but... BE AWARE - FERRY TO BOURNEMOUTH CLOSED UNTIL OCTOBER.

Please be aware that the ferry to Bournemouth is out of action until October (and has been since July). We had wanted to use the ferry for daily access to the air show, and it was almost a 2 hour return trip to drive around instead. You can get a train from Wareham to Bournemouth, but unfortunately it's not possible to get the steam train to Wareham (yet), so you need to drive. Supermarkets are miles away and we found it difficult to park there. This does make the site feel a bit remote. The local roads were extremely busy during the main part of the day, so we tried to limit our travel to mornings and evenings. The steam railway is a great way to explore some of the local area with the kids. We used it to access Swanage and the beach. Whilst we were there, we tried to bring back as many supermarket provisions as we could (the station is quite a short walk from the site). We found the site peaceful at night, but can be noisy in the day with multiple types of maintenance machinery on the go - way more than any other site we've been to. In fairness, the site is one of the most clean and tidy though. There are decent showers and washing facilities, with plenty of hot water. There's not much for the kids to do on site other than a large field, but we liked the nature / wildlife areas, which were well stocked with food for the birds. Overall, we would recommend for a short stay.

Full steam ahead

Lovely little site perfectly placed in the Isle of Purbeck, five minutes walk from Harmans Cross station where you can catch the steam train to Swanage or Corfe Castle. Nice views of the Purbeck hills from the site especially the upper level. Yes the facilities are a bit dated but work perfectly. Nice level pitches and great wardens. It's no wonder this site always appears to be fully booked.

First visit, we will be back

This was our first visit to Haycraft caravan and motorhome club site. What a delight it is. A small quiet well maintained club site. Wardens exceptionally friendly and helpful. Only comment would be that some of the building work is getting a bit tired and need some repair. However we will be back. Thanks very much to the wardens
