Peaceful Stay

Must be our first time out of school holidays and what a difference - peace and quiet. Al and Andi were so helpful and accommodating - great couple. We used our E-Bikes to get to Sand Banks and back with out a hitch - 50 mins each way. The toilet block was spotless but have to agree it is in need of an update. Look forward to returning.

Nice site to visit the area

We had just a two night stay here, thankfully they were able to accommodate us as they had had to cancel quite a few bookings due to waterlogged pitches. Nice friendly wardens keeping the site and amenities up to the usual high standards. Sadly the washing machine was out of action and as we had done a few CL sites on a lengthy trip from home I was hoping to do some washing, never mind these things happen and they were trying to get it sorted. I really think the band system has to be re-thought out, I wonder if the policy will change if Boris eases restrictions on the 19th July? But until then and after then if CAMC continues with this restricted use policy it will continue to be a little chaotic. I turned up at the showers one morning, all bands in the bucket, but both showers were being used, one of the women who came out said she had definitely put a band on the hook but said "to be honest I don't think anyone's bothering with it anymore because no one agrees with it!!" Anyway on to brighter things, we cycled into Swanage and had a lovely day on the beach and walking around the town. As others have said Corfe and it's castle is worth a visit although admission charges to the castle are a little high but a must visit is the Square and Compass pub, very busy and be warned that it may well mean sitting outside. A walk down to the bay and Kimmeridge are also good spots, so much to see and do on this coastline. Wareham is lovely little town, with a Sainsbury's to stock up on essentials before reaching the site, a good car park just on the edge of the town which can easily accommodate a motorhome. We have electric bikes to get about on, but although some steep climbs most of it is doable. We really liked Swanage so if we were ever to visit again would definitely come back to this site. When in Swanage a walk along the pier is good, plenty of watersports and boat trips, ferry and self drive motor boats. The steam trains also run from here to Corfe, didn't use so can't pass any comment or advice.

Great for Walking

We have stayed at this site many times, and it never disappoints. Apart from the peaceful location, one of the key benefits for us is that there is such good walking from the site. Apart from hopping in the car each morning to pick up the daily paper, we've left it parked where it is. It's a fifteen minute walk to the King's Arms in Langton across some lovely fields - good beer and food. Mind you, I got into trouble from my better half after checking out a wild water swim spot at Dancing Ledge, after a large lunch plus refreshment at said pub that did not combine well with the six miles on foot that followed. No, I didn't go for a swim after the lunch. Winspit is a better wild swim spot as is Chapmans Pool that are similar distances from the site. Note, Dancing Ledge and Winspit are for confident swimmers only. For something more leisurely, there is a great cafe take away in Worth which is about thirty minutes walk away. There is also a good looking pub there too, which I've not visited yet - only a matter of time. Corfe and Swanage are also easily walkable from the site. There are great views of Poole Harbour from the hill across the valley from the site. We will be back.

My 2 Collies favourite Club dog walking site

Best on-site dog exercise area of all the Club sites I've visited so far. Superb area for coastal and downland walks, walked c. 45 miles in 3 &a half days this year. There's even some of the old ruins that Cromwell knocked about a bit if piles of stones are your thing. I'd never visited Corfe Castle on previous visits and was surprised what an interesting history it had, the dogs weren't so bothered though. Excellent local bus services ( for those who can be bothered to walk 10 mins. up or down the hill to access them) with timetables available from the friendly and helpful site staff. I didn't need to use the Mobile Dog Kennel once this year from arrival to departure, the joys of my 1st. season with a Wrinklie/ Twirly pass. The steam trains chugging up and down are an added attraction even though my trainspotting days ended 53 years ago with the end of steam on BR. Wareham's a pleasant enough little town to stop off for a pint or two and there are some reasonable enough pubs in nearby villages. For me, though, the best of the lot and one of my all-time favourite pubs throughout the land is the Square & Compass at Worth Matravers which is just over half an hour's walk up the hill and across the fields and perhaps why I will always find time to revisit Haycraft.

Very poor shower facilities

Blocks were dated, shower in ladies were cold and brackets holding showers were broken. Showers in desperate need of upgrading. Otherwise site and wardens lovely

Great site

Lovely little site. Nicely kept and friendly welcoming wardens. Facilities always clean. Nice walks from the site but you do need a car. Amazing Purbeck ice cream sold in the shop. Definitely a lovely place to stay.

Cracking little site

What a gem. The only hint of a downside is the approach road - single track and uphill, just take care. Wardens are delightful, usual clean facilities, site well kept and tidy. Score asks if good for families ... families want different things and it is irrelevant to me and many members - but you have to give a score. There’s no play area so I gave 1 star

Nice site, warm welcome!

This is a small site not far from Corfe castle, though it is a bit of a hike if you are walking. The pitches are a bit tight, with pretty chunky gravel! However, the welcome from the CMC guys was very warm and comprehensive, and the facilities always clean and the site tidy. Would recommend as a good base for the area.

Quiet location and lovely views

Stayed here in April just after lockdown #3 ended. Site is in a quiet location and is well maintained although did not use sanitary block as was advised by staff to use our own. This site is not ideal for motorhomes as at the time we stayed the Train station at Harmans Cross remains closed due to Covid. Although stations at Corfe and Swanage are open. So we could not use the train for transport. The walk to Corfe across the fields is far longer than the 2 1/4 miles on the finger post and involves a part along a busy main road. Because of Covid the site information room remains closed. We would have liked some information about the area to be available perhaps by posting a notice on the information cabin or by a hand out on arrival ( like the Cheddar site) As it was there was no information easily available. Apparently there’s a bus stop up a very steep hill if you turn left out of the site another camper informed us. The area is lovely but I don’t think we’ll return because of the location.

April long weekend

We had a very pleasant 3 night weekend break at this compact but comfortable site with well kept and managed pitches and toilet facilities. The access lane is narrow but at the time of our stay not very busy. We left our Moho on site and walked to the 40 Breezer bus stops at the top of the hill for our days out visiting Swanage and Corfe Village/Castle. Although the bus stops are only 20 mins from site (at a purposeful strut) it is a steep walk. The Wardens (as we have come to expect) were friendly and helpful. We would love to return when the next opportunity arises.
