Lovely as always

This was our second stay at Hawes Caravan Club site and we were not disappointed - the site is well kept, spotless and the wardens are helpful. The situation is perfect for walking into lovely Hawes and for walks across  Wensleydale straight from the site. The walk to Hadraw is a particular favourite as the Green Dragon does wonderful pies and ale :) The dog walk is the best we have ever come across! The only disappointment is the noise from the farm located at the bottom of the site - we are farmers ourselves and appreciate everyone has a job to do but the crashing and banging and revving of tractors at 7.30am each morning was a bit of a bind, on both our visits we got the feeling that the owners really don't like having caravaners on their doorstep - never mind, it meant we were up and about bright and early for a day's walking. Looking forward to our next visit (to the top end of the site).

Weekend break

This is a lovely place to stay for a weekend. The staff were very friendly on arrival and made us feel welcome. The toilet block does need upgrading but it was clean with plenty of showers, privacy cubicles etc. Short walk to the delightful town of Hawes with lots of places to eat and drink. Fish and chip shop cafe was a good choice. Road access from north from Kirby Stephen not brilliant for a large motorhome!

Disappointed

We first visited Hawes CC site about 18 years ago when we were caravanning last time and looked forward to returning to celebrate my wife’s birthday. They say you should never return and we wish we hadn’t. Although we love Hawes and the surrounding area, (we have visited many times without the caravan), we found the CC site to be the worst site we had stayed on so far this year. (We have been away once per month since December 2014). Why must the CC insist on packing everyone in like sardines – and as for the view – whilst it was Ok in some areas - where we were, on pitch 96 at the bottom of the site, the only view we had was of other caravans and virtually no space between in which to sit out. As for the 30 year old toilet block, it was nothing short of disgusting and certainly didn’t justify the £26+ per night (£184 for the week) that we were charged for our pitch. Thick black mould behind the shower controls, the same debris on the floors there all week, mould around the silicone sealer around the wash-hand basins - and my wife also spotted a bit of left-over Christmas decoration (in August!) wedged in between the tiles in one of the shower cubicles and that, too, was there all week. We were told that the Club recognises the toilet block needs upgrading but that this won’t be done until the end of 2016! It occurs to me that someone going in there with a pressure washer and blasting the whole place clean would be a considerable step in the right direction. On the plus side, the dog walk was magnificent, the Wardens friendly and helpful and the town has much to offer as reported by others. A visit to the Creamery and the Fish and Chip shop is a must. In a way, I am sorry to have to be so negative but we are now resolved to avoid Club sites completely (with the possible exception of Rosedale Abbey which is excellent) and continue to direct our attention to the network of CLs and C&CC CS’s which have, so far, proved far more enjoyable and certainly better value for money.

First visit

We were supposed to be caravanning in Holland this week but this didn't work out so picked Hawes as a replacement - what a great choice. Hawes is only a 5 minute walk from the site and is a lovely little market town with winding streets, numerous pubs and eating places and (for the wife) plenty of small shops to browse and spend (yet another pair of shoes). The 10 - 15 minute walk to Wensleydale Creamery was well worth the effort and we really enjoyed seeing the processes, the museum, the cheese making demonstration, cheese samples, and are now enjoying the items we brought back home with us. There are many good walks around Hawes and we also had a great day cycling to Hardraw to see the waterfall and sampled some good real ale. The only downside of this trip was the time limitations prevented us from staying longer but we'll be back.

Perfect Place to End the Day

Travelling north at the end of a holiday but a glorious sunny day walking in the Dales was not to be missed. Hard to get a phone service but managed to contact the site mid-afternoon on the off-chance of a pitch. The staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming and a 7pm arrival did not present a problem for them. A super site with the summer flowers at their best, and a deep red sunset rounded off a perfect day very nicely. Just a flying visit this time but we regularly enjoy longer stays too. 5 minutes from the cafes and hostelries of this pretty little market town and with walking directly from site make this the perfect location for a Dales holiday. Market Day on Tuesdays and stalls were setting up as I drove through the village at 7.30am. Need to stay longer next time..

Hawes Caravan Club Site

Its a good site in a great location if you like being out in the Dales. There is walking and cycling for all abilities and some wonderfull dales villages to explore and it is easy to nip over into Swaledale or even Wharfedale and the less explored Dentdale. The site itself is well set out a short walk into the village of Hawes which has several pubs and the creamery. But the site Wifi is a joke at £2.50/ day or a little more for the week, i tried it for a day and found it too slow to be of any use.

Ideal for exploring Herriot country

First time on this site, but it won't be the last. Very friendly wardens who listed the pitches available and the toilet block was immaculate. Quiet at night, but a bit noisy when the RAF flew over, but worth the noise to see the planes. Large dog walking area, and only 5 minutes walk into Hawes - if you want a superb meal call into the White Hart - brilliant food. This site is well worth a visit - you won't be disappointed. We will be booking again soon.
