Visited late July/august
Having been members for some years we let our membership lapse in the pandemic period. Purchased a low budget camper and Rejoined as we missed it. Site is excellent if you want a peaceful stay, not cramped imho. Did not see any “Karen’s”. Facilities could do with refresh but still up to the standards we remember. So some thing never change.
Fell foul (yet again) of the camc Wi-Fi system where the bit that takes your work seamlessly, but the bit that delivers what you have just paid for does the opposite. I should have known better having experienced the problem on many occasions before, you get lost in a vicious circle of password issues and and you throwing iPad across the van .As I said, somethings never change, site was just fine nevertheless, local pub does excellent good value meals and locals welcoming
Will not return. Nothing here.
Lovely Wardens but there is little here to do apart from walking which was fine. The Club Brochure needs updating as it said a must was to get a bus to Isle of Whithorn as there are lovely quaint shops etc, nothing,. There was a cafe and a restaurant/pub but nothing to see, got on the next bus back! Very disappointed with the facilities, needs to be updated and the smell from the sewage farm across the road was awful. Overall not a good experience.
Sorry not for us
We just felt this site was too cramped, And we simply didn't fit in, we watch a gaggle of Karens wandering around cackling to themselves about how dirty one van was to how cheep another looked, it was pathetic, the site has flats that overlook it giving a feeling of being watched from all sides,
Second visit
Stayed on this site for a week in July, last visit was about 7 years ago. The site is split into 2 areas one with harbour views and the other across the road in the walled area. We stayed in the garden walled part so now have tried both half’s the toilet block is looking tired and needs updating although it’s clean and tidy there are two loos two showers and two wash basins, we arrived with are Motorhome and a tow car there is little space as you arrive at reception so had to disconnect car and drive over the the other half of the site and indeed found little space to manoeuvre here as well. The wardens were polite and helpful and there is a little shop for bits and bobs the bus stops just outside the site to visit newton Stewart and other local places to visit. They have a chip shop van that arrives on a Wednesday and we also used ferry fish to order in fresh scallops they deliver to your pitch.just behind the site is the camping and caravan cl site and there is the pub called the harbour inn really close to the site that did a fabulous Sunday carvery. Found the site easy to reach from the M6 and A75 probably will try other sites nearby by to visit when we travel again to again to the west cost but if your looking for peace and quiet garlieston is a little gem.
Return visit
We came here a few years ago and loved it so came back for an overnight stay on our road trip. The wardens are very helpful and friendly. had a great pitch on the harbour. Facilities are very clean. Had a lovely sundowner in the Harbour Inn which you would have to book to eat. Very popular. Hope to be back here very soon.

Lovely stay
I think this has to be the most unusual site we’ve stayed at. Sited on the harbour overlooking the water was both calming and peaceful. The wardens were so helpful and really welcoming. We visited the Harbour Inn and had the most delicious meal and very reasonably priced with excellent, friendly service. You hardly needed to leave the site as there are so many lovely walks. Visited Newton Stewart for shopping which is a lovely town with a Sainsbury’s and Aldi. A small criticism are the facilities, could do with an overhaul. Having said that, they were spotless, so no real concerns. If we visit Scotland again, Garlieston will be on our list to revisit.
Perhaps a new favourite CMC Site?
It would be difficult to find a more idyllic location for a campsite right on the harbourside in a Scottish village? The site is split into two sections, one next to the harbour and another smaller part in a walled garden just across the road, this was where we pitched. The site has two toilet blocks, both of which are of the older variety. Garlieston has a very interesting history which is set out on boards by the Village Hall. Not least the part it played in the development of the Mulberry Harbour used in Normandy in WW2. There is a friendly pub in the village where you can have a beer or a coffee. They do meals as well but probably worth thinking about booking as it seems popular. The only shop for food basics is as you enter the village in the garage (which only sells diesel fuel). There is a fairly regular bus service from the village to Wigtown and Newton Stewart and also further south from Garlieston.
Location, Location, Location
Fantastic location right next to the sea, site split into two by a service road to the small fishing harbour. Site badly needs refurbishment to the facilities blocks and would benefit from a reduction in pitches to give more space, some are very cramped.
Good TV signal and WiFi reasonable. Nice Pub within two minutes walk and plenty to do in the area with some wonderful walks.

Our third visit
We stayed at this site from 19/3/22 for 7 nights, sited in the walled garden area which we prefer. It was a great stay as usual. Everything clean and nice and well cared for by the friendly wardens. We were blessed with a week of sunshine. The site is great for walks out around the bay, in both directions, walking shoes/boots needed for some of the paths at this time of year. We are interested in the history of Garlieston and it’s connection with trialling the mulberry harbour. Having already walked to Rigg Bay a few times we also walked around towards Eggleston point to see the remains that are situated there on the rocky beach. We travelled out to Port Logan, Portpatrick, and Wigtown which are all worth visiting.
This site is a gem of tranquility in a small village, with great beaches on the doorstep, maybe not too well suited for children as there isn’t a play area but if they love the outdoors then this is the place. Great for dog walking too. We’ll e back again,
