Regular visitor to Garlieston

We have been visiting this site on a regular basis for a good many years. Our last visit was from13th to16th August. As always the site was in excellent condition and the facilities spotlessly clean thanks to the hard work of Anne and Martin who are the wardens. The area is great for walking and cycling. The local hotel does great food and the guy who has the garage will order rolls, papers and other provisions for you. As I said in my last review the toilet facilities could do with a face lift and although Anne and Martin keep them spotlessly clean they cannot update them. So my challenge to the club administration is let me see if you bother reading the reviews and respond to my request for upgrading. We use club sites whenever we can and certainly in Scotland stay at sites that are not as busy but have been upgraded. Come in club give me a response!

Pretty Harbour Gem

Return visit to this site, located in a small town overlooking Wigton Bay. The site is divided into two halves, one walled garden area and the other the harbour view. Pitches along the harbour wall give an amazing vista over the Bay but can get very crowded as the grass between hard-standings are also allocated as pitches during high season. We were on pitch 6 which was lovely and spacious. The facilities are a little dated - I could not get one of the showers to operate, which left only 1 working cubicle. The hairdryer is very low power too but adequate if you are patient. The motorhome service point is in the walled garden area only, which can be a little tight if you have a large outfit. There is a bus stop right outside of the site but the timetable is a little erratic - you can get to places but there can be long waits for the return journeys. The town itself is pleasant to walk around, The Harbour Inn is always worth a visit, and the locals play crown green bowls even in wet weather. Delicious mobile fish and chip van arrived on Friday evening (4pm - 7pm) and very good prices. The harbour/bay is dog friendly all year round when the tide is out. There is a lot of history attached to Garlieston, so worth wandering around, reading the information and visiting the 'museum' in the community hall. Will definitely be back for a third visit.

Best Relief Wardens A***

We have had a relaxing wonderful week at Garlieston, we had the pleasure of the relief wardens looking after the site & ourselves while there. They were polite very friendly & had a warm welcome for visitors/members on site. I read the review below and I'm afraid I disagree with the comments left about the relief wardens. They kept the site very clean & tidy, they both worked extremely hard, they couldn't do enough for you they gave us some dental sticks for our dogs. The views are fantastic, the beach gorgeous for the dogs and only 2 mins away. Just go & you won't be dissapointed

Well located site in a welcoming village

A great location - we stayed on the harbour side and enjoyed the views. The walk from the site around the coastline to Galloway House Gardens was a highlight and we loved our cycle ride to the Isle of Whithorn too. Even managed a paddle in the bay while the tide was in. The Harbour Inn is perfectly located for drinks and food and the locals we met were very friendly. The village has an interesting history and we will definitely stop here again next time we visit this part of Scotland. Facilities-wise, the showers are old and slope the wrong way so it gets very messy with water running out into the corridor if you have your shower turned on full.

Great place to stay!

Stayed here recently, had a good relaxing holiday. Lots of lovely walks from the site. Ann and Martin the two wardens we met couldn't have made us more welcome. The facilities are spotlessly clean, if a tad dated. The Harbour Inn nearby is great for a meal and a drink. Further afield Port Patrick is lovely well worth a visit, try Connors restaurant for a great meal. Will hopefully be back soon to chill, thanks to Ann and Martin you do a fantastic job 😁

Quiet and Relaxing Site

Stayed for 2 nights in July and blessed with good weather. A very friendly and well run site in a beautiful and peaceful part of SW Scotland with some wonderful walks and cycling available. More suited for adults.

Excellent friendly site, nothing is too much trouble

Stayed 3 nights here 2nd to 5th August. Site is spotlessly clean with good modern showers and toilets. Ann and Brian are so helpful. On our last night I lost my wallet, Ann tracked it down to the pub and arranged for it to be posted back to me, I got it 2 days later, service above and beyond. Peaceful site, nearest shop is the filling station 10 mins walk away. The Harbour Inn does lovely meals. We will definitely stay here again.

Unusual split site

Stayed here for 5 days. Unusual site as its split between pitches overlooking harbour and across the road in a walled area. On arrival at site after a long journey feeling a bit stressed was met by warden who said he wanted to give us a flavour of the site and kept going on about possible flooding once a month and rather unnerved us. Joking that if we see him packing us it's time to evacuate. We got quite concerned as we go out out for long periods on the bikes. He finally assured us that high water wasn't expected during our stay, but after this conversation it took the shine of the site. Reception sells nothing, the nearest shop is quite a walk and not sure whether there is a pavement, not good for motorhomers for milk or ice cream. After seeing a chap washing his bar b que in the laundry, with the door being open hadn't seen the laundry sign told me he didn't realise the sinks were just for laundry as there were no signs. Mentioned to warden that a sign might be useful he said he wasn't allowed to put up individual sites. There seems to be a lot of new campers who don't know the routine and signs would be helpful across the network. Seen this at other sites this year.

Weekend break

We are lucky enough to only live an hour away from the site. This is our third visit in past nine months. We booked via late availability page again which we find brilliant. The site is truly brilliant. Location is great for walks both way along the coast. A tip for the walk at the opposite end of the village to the site would be to cut the corner off across the bay if tides allow. The first part of the walk from the road is a bit overgrown. But if you cut across the beach and rejoin the walk you miss that bit out. Facilities at site are alway clean and never too busy. Used the chip van on Friday night and it was very enjoyable. It was very busy however so be prepared to wait. It is worth it. Didn’t use pub this time but have in the past and food and drink is very good. Another lovely visit and looking forward to returning soon I hope.

One of the better sites we have stayed at ......................

Booked here for 2 days 9th July and were fortunate to secure a cancellation and stayed 4 days. One of the best kept sites we have stayed on, information room is so helpful and informative, facilities spotless and grounds clean and well kept. Garlieston itself was a new area for us, but we were so impressed with the surrounding coastal walks in both directions from the site. Galloway House and gardens are a treat to walk through, such amazing trees and plants, a different path to take every time we visited! The Harbour Inn did not disappoint with its cute beer garden, lovely meals and very friendly and polite staff. It is a very friendly village and we were interested to chat to the locals and loved hearing the history and stories of this lovely harbour village. We were so impressed with Garlieston and the surrounding areas that we have booked again for 2 weeks in October! The wardens Ann and Martin run a very tight ship and the site is a credit to them, including the beautiful flowers at the welcoming entrance!
