Horrid weather as Storm Brian came in. Huge waves in the bay, and the warden watching the height of high tide. Sensibly, they had closed the wetter grass pitches.
The welcome, cleanliness and facilities were beyond reproach. We had a great couple of days with our friends in our two motorhomes. Evening meal in the village pub.
A lovely location.
Gorgeous Location
First time at this site, it was recommended by a family member and we were not disappointed. It has a fantastic view across the bay if you park in the main park or if you prefer a beautiful walled garden to hide away in. The toilet blocks are very well kept and clean slightly older than most sites but this is the only negative comment I could make about the site. The local pub does fantastic food which if you prefer you can carry it out and have it in the comfort of your own van which is great for your first night, a fabulous meal without any cooking! There is plenty to do and see all around and the wardens are very helpful if you need any information.

Wonderful site in a beautiful location
Having quite recently joined the Caravan Club this was our first experience of a CC site and what an introduction!
The location of the site in the peaceful little village of Garlieston right on the edge of Wigtown Bay is stunning. The site itself is impressive with spacious pitches, neatly manicured lawns and well looked after flowers and shrubs. The facilities are excellent, good showers and toilets and private cubicles for washing - all spotlessly clean. The site wardens are a lovely couple who manage the site really well and are both friendly and helpful, providing lots of local information and knowledge. There are two separate areas to the site; we were in the part overlooking the bay which was perfect for my bird watching husband. As the tide went out all the wading birds gathered at the water’s edge and around the rock pools - curlews, oystercatchers, redshanks, golden plover, good old seagulls and a few bossy swans. There is also the walled garden which looked good and is apparently a sun Trap!
We ate in the Harbour Inn. It’s a cosy, lively pub with a good sized restaurant and the food was good.
Wigtownshire is a lovely and often overlooked county with lots to do and see. The Wigtown Book Festival was on while we were there. There are interesting little towns and villages - Isle of Whithorn, Whithorn with its archaeological digs and St Ninian’s cave, Port Patrick, Logan Gardens and other gardens, day trips to Belfast and the Titanic Experience, Glentrool Forest Park - as well as great walks.
Our only disappointment was that we were there for one night. We’ll definitely be back and for longer next time!

We made it!
We have visited Garlieston a number of times, but this was the first time we managed to follow the instructions and go straight there. It always seems such a long way from the main road - much further than one expects. As always the site was well kept and the facilities A1. The staff are helpful and enjoy a chat, even in the rain. Unfortunately the village PO and stores has closed so stock up before you arrive.

Garlieston, lovely seaside site
Garlieston, beautiful seaside location. Spotless facilities and helpful staff. In attractive village with pleasant pub/restaurant only 100 yards away.

Peaceful site with wonderful views
We stayed for 2 nights, the site is all we would expect from the CAMC, well run by friendly staff, immaculate facilties and in a lovelly small village, pub within walking distance. Great walks from the site.
Great for cycling!
We've just spent 4 nights at Garlieston, a great little site. The wardens are friendly and have made a real effort with floral displays at the entrance to both parts of the site(one part in a walled garden, the other right on the harbour front with great views). The toilet block is fine but a bit older than some other Club sites.
We enjoyed 2 great cycle rides direct from the site. There's a board just outside the site which displays 3 routes which range in distance from about 17 to 25 miles. The routes we chose were relatively easy, through lovely rolling countryside, one to the Isle of Whithorn and the other to Wigton and around. There are little villages where you can buy food or cups of tea.

What a little gem of a site
We have just returned from a very enjoyable week at this stunning little gem of a site with great wardens and very friendly atmosphere - everyone spoke to everyone, which is really nice to see. Although the village doesn't have a shop now, that was part of its charm as it has travelling bank/butcher/fishmonger/library/fish and chip van which calls at the site - like back to the 1950s. Essentials like bread and milk could be obtained from the village garage, but it was nice to hear that although the wardens do stock calor gas, they do not have food items other than sweets so as not to take away from the local village economy.
The toilet facilities are really nice and clean and the site is exceptionally well kept by the wardens - particularly the wonderful flowers at the entrance. The site is lovely and flat for those less mobile and the fishing off the village pier was ideal.
We were particularly impressed at the help the wardens offered to another couple of caravanners who had had an unfortunate incident with a farm slurry lorry on the way to the site, going out of their way to get them a power washer to clean their unit up. Truly above and beyond.
Thanks for a lovely week guys - the site is a credit to you and we'll be back.

Exceptional !
We stayed at Garlieston for 8 nights in August. What a lovely quiet site.
First of all location - right by the sea - although the tide was out more than in, great for watching wildlife. Good walks around Galloway House gardens and Rigg bay, albeit a bit wet underfoot so good stout walking boots required. Bike rides - to the Isle of Whithorn only around 7 miles and a great community café with lovely cakes and coffee when you get there to fuel you up for the way back. I usually won't ride on roads, but made an exception here because we only saw around 6 cars there and back !
The village shop is actually in the petrol station - which only has diesel and sells a bit of everything. Garlieston Lodge sells eggs and a very tasty barbecue pack of 4 burgers, 6 sausages and 4 chicken kebabs for £5.99 - exceptional quality. Harbour Inn has good wholesome food. We bought some delicious salmon fillets from the wet fish van that visited site on Tuesday, and the Fish and Chip van was good too - haddock not cod - happy to say!
The wardens kept everything spic and span. Flowers beautiful. When I went to enquire if Ann had any gravy in the site shop she went to her own kitchen and said to use what we needed from that. So kind. They stick to basic caravanning needs in the shop so that they keep a good rapport with the locals.
Would we come again? Yes definitely, Garlieston is a gem as are the wardens!
Beautiful seaside location
This is a very pleasant camp site. The views over the water are fantastic. There is a good local eatery and we had excellent fish suppers from the van on Friday evening. The wardens were very friendly and most helpful. The area has many interesting locations to visit, Whithorn for history and the Isle of Whithorn has a super restaurant. Kirroughtree for the whole family experience on bikes and The Cream of Galloway for children's activities. Hope to have a return visit.
