Peaceful site with wonderful views

We stayed for 2 nights, the site is all we would expect from the CAMC, well run by friendly staff, immaculate facilties and in a lovelly small village, pub within walking distance. Great walks from the site.

Great for cycling!

We've just spent 4 nights at Garlieston, a great little site. The wardens are friendly and have made a real effort with floral displays at the entrance to both parts of the site(one part in a walled garden, the other right on the harbour front with great views). The toilet block is fine but a bit older than some other Club sites. We enjoyed 2 great cycle rides direct from the site. There's a board just outside the site which displays 3 routes which range in distance from about 17 to 25 miles. The routes we chose were relatively easy, through lovely rolling countryside, one to the Isle of Whithorn and the other to Wigton and around. There are little villages where you can buy food or cups of tea.

What a little gem of a site

We have just returned from a very enjoyable week at this stunning little gem of a site with great wardens and very friendly atmosphere - everyone spoke to everyone, which is really nice to see. Although the village doesn't have a shop now, that was part of its charm as it has travelling bank/butcher/fishmonger/library/fish and chip van which calls at the site - like back to the 1950s. Essentials like bread and milk could be obtained from the village garage, but it was nice to hear that although the wardens do stock calor gas, they do not have food items other than sweets so as not to take away from the local village economy. The toilet facilities are really nice and clean and the site is exceptionally well kept by the wardens - particularly the wonderful flowers at the entrance. The site is lovely and flat for those less mobile and the fishing off the village pier was ideal. We were particularly impressed at the help the wardens offered to another couple of caravanners who had had an unfortunate incident with a farm slurry lorry on the way to the site, going out of their way to get them a power washer to clean their unit up. Truly above and beyond. Thanks for a lovely week guys - the site is a credit to you and we'll be back. Grumpy disabled pensioner

Exceptional !

We stayed at Garlieston for 8 nights in August. What a lovely quiet site. First of all location - right by the sea - although the tide was out more than in, great for watching wildlife. Good walks around Galloway House gardens and Rigg bay, albeit a bit wet underfoot so good stout walking boots required. Bike rides - to the Isle of Whithorn only around 7 miles and a great community café with lovely cakes and coffee when you get there to fuel you up for the way back. I usually won't ride on roads, but made an exception here because we only saw around 6 cars there and back ! The village shop is actually in the petrol station - which only has diesel and sells a bit of everything. Garlieston Lodge sells eggs and a very tasty barbecue pack of 4 burgers, 6 sausages and 4 chicken kebabs for £5.99 - exceptional quality. Harbour Inn has good wholesome food. We bought some delicious salmon fillets from the wet fish van that visited site on Tuesday, and the Fish and Chip van was good too - haddock not cod - happy to say! The wardens kept everything spic and span. Flowers beautiful. When I went to enquire if Ann had any gravy in the site shop she went to her own kitchen and said to use what we needed from that. So kind. They stick to basic caravanning needs in the shop so that they keep a good rapport with the locals. Would we come again? Yes definitely, Garlieston is a gem as are the wardens!

Beautiful seaside location

This is a very pleasant camp site. The views over the water are fantastic. There is a good local eatery and we had excellent fish suppers from the van on Friday evening. The wardens were very friendly and most helpful. The area has many interesting locations to visit, Whithorn for history and the Isle of Whithorn has a super restaurant. Kirroughtree for the whole family experience on bikes and The Cream of Galloway for children's activities. Hope to have a return visit.

Pretty Village Location

Visited for the first time at the end of July. The site is located in a pretty part of this overlooked corner of Scotland. The site entrance is a delightful with flower boxes and well kept planting around the entrance. In general the site has the feeling of being very well cared for, with much attention to detail by the wardens. We had a friendly efficient reception on arrival from the lady warden and opted for a pitch on the area overlooking the bay. Pitches alongside the bay were taken so we pitched on the grass area behind. I think however that had one of the bay side pitches been available it may have been too short for our 7.5m motorhome. The site was full and we did feel more crowded in than on any other club sites we had visited. Perhaps the club would consider fewer pitches in this area to give visitors more feeling of space and privacy? Garlieston is a lovely village with a nice friendly pub, with lots of walking opportunities from site. However this might not be the ideal place for those with young children with no play facilities on site and close proximity to the tidal bay. We will definitely visit again, and will try to get a pitch in the walled garden part of the site next time.

Amazing location

We stayed here for 3 nights and had a pitch on the harbour wall. Such an amazing view over the water with super sunsets. Great walks direct from the site and a bus stop outside. The Harbour Inn is the most dog friendly pub I've ever come across - and lovely food. Definitely a site to return to.

Honeymoon

Came for the first time with my husband and our dog. Stayed on pitch 41 we had an awning all front pitches by water are non awning yet we could still see the sea. Wardens were great helpful and told us all about site and dog walks. Fish and chip van on a Friday fish supper £5.50 fab. Fish van also comes and a post office van once a week. Flowers tubs and baskets a real pleasure and credit to wardens. Dog walk from site along the coast to Galloway house gardens fab we did every morning came back along house drive did a big circular loop. Fully reccomend a peacufull relaxing time.

Peaceful and beautiful

Beautiful place for a calming holiday. This visit enjoyed stunning walks by the shore, visits to Isle of Whithorn, St Ninian's cave, Port William, but equally happy to just watch tide go in and out. Village shop sadly closed since we were last there but butcher, fishman and fish and chip van visit. Local garage sells a few things and takes orders for papers, bread, milk. The butcher in Wigtown makes lovely fresh pies and bakes bread. Co-op at Wigtown sells most other things needed Ann and Martin are welcoming and helpful wardens. Love this area. The people are are friendly, the scenery is gorgeous and the weather is often much better than across the Solway where we come from. The tropical plants at the Royal Botanic Garden at Logan prove it!
