Excellent active family location

What a fantastic location! Our first trip here, first club booking, and first winter camp. Cold but glorious weather, we had the best weekend. We would love to come back when the new playground and football cage are open. Being right next to Nene Park and Ferry Meadows was brilliant for us. Days of cycling, walking, bird watching - such peace! It's huge and easy to get away from the crowds. The facilities are fantastic - we are used to 'farm' type sites with our campervan, which we love, but in winter the warm, clean shower block was welcome! The lady in Reception was very welcoming. Having steam trains toot past was lovely for the kids. We will be back!0

Same old same old

Same old site, still flooding on the same pitches and across the roadways, especially the walkway by the pitches into the facilities block. There was mud all over the walkway and surrounding pitches. You had to wade through 3 inches deep water. Despite changing the club name a number years ago now to include 'motorhome' the motorhome service point is still difficult to get into, blocks the road for other vehicles as its a one way system and still has an awkward manhole cover to lift up underneath - not very user friendly. Where is the drive over grid? The only 2 good points - toilets were clean and a very friendly welcome from the lady on reception - but she said she was only there till the end of the week! Would it be a good idea for the wardens to have name badges so if there is any praise (or complaint) you know who you are speaking to?

Back again

First stayed here in January 2022 for my first solo trip. Was very cold, all outside water points were frozen! Had a relaxing stay. Realised that the site and its location are ideal to bring my grandsons, so visited again in the February half term. A successful visit so I am booking again for Easter week. Plenty of easy cycling for the smallest grandson, Peterborough city within easy cycling distance when I am on my own. There are activities for the boys, At Easter 'we' will be going on a boat trip, climbing up a wall, perhaps shooting some arrows and going on an Easter egg hunt. Also cycling, using the play areas and going on the mini railway. My only gripe is that the nearby Nene Park railway is fully booked two months in advance! Nothing to do with the site, of course,

Return visit to site

Would rate this as one of the best Club sites we’ve been to - not only for the cleanliness and thoughtfully equipped facilities on the site and the friendliness of the staff, but also due to the excellent location at the entrance to the Ferry Meadows Country Park. Masses of walks and cycle ways all around, both around the Park, but also into the city and around the perimeter - worth looking at Peterborough Green Wheel route which is a fantastic route primarily on cycle paths. Several nearby coffee shops too - would recommend the Boat House in the Park, and the cafe at Notcutts Garden Centre just up the road. Great for a visit if you are interested in gardening too ! The site itself is very well maintained with all services close to the pitches. Stayed mid week in February - which we found out was half term locally - so site was fairly busy, but pitches are well spaced and there was plenty of room.

Great location

We stayed in January 2022. The site was not busy. We chose not to use facilities because of Covid, but all looked spotless. As others have mentioned, road noise at night can be an issue, but you're on the edge of a city! It wasn't a problem, and will be better when the trees are in leaf again I expect. Otherwise the site was pretty quiet. We had a nice walk at the Sculpture Trail near the Rowing Lake. To do so we parked at Orton Mere (£2.50 all day), then walked over the Railway near Orton Mere Station, across the river Nene and under the motorway. It was a nice peaceful walk with plenty of sculpture and wildlife to watch, as well as rowers on the lake. A good tarmac path for walking or cycling. We also visited Flag Fen Archaeology Park, another interesting site in the area. We've been to Ferry Meadows before and will definintely be returning. Hopefully the Motorhome Waste Point may have been improved by then - it is awkward to use and doing so easily blocks the traffic depending on where your waste outlet is on the van. These are not intended as negative comments, merely pointing out issues we had. Its a good site, we'll be back!

An excellent site in beautiful surroundings

This was our first trip to Ferry Meadows and was delighted with the welcome we received from the staff who were very helpful. We were on pitch 104 close to the facilities and site entrance with a lovely backdrop. It's in a beautiful location and easy to get to location, we spent many hours walking our dog around the beautiful lakes within the park. We liked it so much we booked the site again in June. The site facilities were excellent very clean and tidy, site layout very good, and so much to see in the area, looking forward to our return in June.

Our new favourite site

We visited this site for the first time recently for a weekend break with our 2 dogs. It’s is in a fantastic, easy to get to location. We walked the 1 mile walk to the Woodman pub but remember to take a torch if you walk back in the dark, it’s pitch black. Ferry Meadows country park is on the doorstep with many great walks and even a dog agility course which our 6 month old puppy loved. It’s a fantastic place for dog owners where the dogs can be let off the lead to play and run, our dogs were worn out by the end of the day. The caravan site itself has a nice layout with a steam train line running behind which is lovely. There is a train station just up the road but you have to book as it gets fully booked regularly at weekends so we didn’t get chance to go on it this time. There are only a couple of points to mention, one is that the local main roads sound like a racing track at night but of course that is no fault of the site. Secondly, the Motorhome service point is badly designed with the waste drain location meaning that the road is completely blocked which a van is draining tanks (unless the van outlet is in the centre of the van). If your outlets are on the drivers side then you have to turn around and reverse in meaning you are then against the one way system. This isn’t unique to this site, we have encountered many other sites where the design of the MHSP needs to be sorted. It’s about time the club invested in this as there are many more Motorhomes nowadays and it’s at the point where one service point is not sufficient at all.

A Fantastic Christmas

We stayed on pitch 29 over the Christmas Holidays between 24th - 30th December, we where welcomed by two fantastic wardens who really made us feel welcome, and they even invited everyone on site for a drink and a mince pie on Christmas Eve, they truly are nice people. We where initially surprised that the site was not full when we arrived, but people came and went, and it filled up a lot more closer we got to New Years Eve, The park itself is brilliant, with lots of flat paved walks, and the stroll around the river Nene was filled with wildlife, and we had such a lovely time, even though it rained every day.

Friendly Wardens

Myself and husband stayed at this site from 22nd to 27th December and on arrival was greeted by a very friendly warden Louise, it made such a difference from when we have been before previous male warden was very rude and not at all friendly. Louise and John even had free mince pies and drink for everyone on Christmas Eve which was so good of them to do. Even though the weather was grotty they always had a smile for you, certainly first class wardens it will make a big difference coming back here knowing the previous wardens have gone. Ruth and Tony pitch 22. Also my sister in law and husband thought exactly the same as us (although he wasn't very happy with the goldfish in his drink) Louise will know what I mean!!! Orange slices he thought were goldfish, we had a laugh about it, they were on pitch 23 a very enjoyable time we all had apart from the weather. They were Joe and Mary. Thank you Louise and John.

Great location, good facilities, lovely wardens

I've stayed at Ferry Meadows a couple of times in the last few weeks - great location, just off the A1, just what I needed. My last stay was just for a single night, a chance to do some laundry, really. The warden seeing me in was lovely, and suggested the best pitch - right next to the laundry! I probably wouldn't have been so thankful during the holiday periods, as it was next to the kids playground, too, but, no children so fine and dandy. I was also impressed that later on the evening, she walked past and asked how the laundry was going. Great to remember/recognise me without a mask, having been masked up during the check in. My only quibble about the place, and it could just be me, no drive over grid for grey waste disposal? It looked like there were manhole covers, but I'm not sure how I would cope with that, being on my own. As it happens, I am happy to use my jerry can to empty the grey waste tank. Not a problem. Can't comment on the other facilities, as I use my own, and I don't have a family to say whether the camp is good or not for them.
