Huge site, not for a long stay

Only stayed one night, in transit from Norfolk to North Wales. After reading other reviews arrived just after 1pm, and was 12th in the queue to check in ! To be fair the wardens did a good job of processing arrivals, allowing them to pitch first and pay later, hence the queue did reduce rapidly. This was our first time here, didn't realise the site was so big ! We didnt look for any shops (nearest 15m walk away) or the pub (10m away) but did have a walk around Nene Park. Was pretty quiet on the path, but very busy in the water with lots of canoes and boats. Not sure I would stay for more than a couple of nights here, but it was pleasant

In need of some upgrading

We arrived at the entrance behind an ice cream van which had the barrier raised by a warden who then walked off and left us waiting to be allowed in - the site needs some signage at the entrance on Ham Lane because later we were stuck again behind two taxis waiting to access the site. The electrical pole/TV aerial socket on our pitch had overgrown bushes at the back which need cutting back plus the water tap at the service point was leaking and dribbling into our Aquaroll. The toilet block was clean and tidy but is in need of refurbishment - the keypad locks on both the gents and ladies entrance doors need replacing and on one occasion the ladies door lock jammed and would not open at all - the cistern lever handles on the WCs seemed to be loose and the flush was poor plus there was no toilet paper or hand wash at times. It was a bit disappointing compared to our previous visits some years ago which is a pity because the site is well located next to Ferry Meadows Country Park and the Nene Valley Railway station is just down the road plus Peterborough city centre is only a few miles away with its magnificent cathedral and shopping centre. And for some reason the directions to the site from the North have been changed from the A1 turn off at Alwalton to a circular route along the A47 which at the moment has extensive roadworks as we found to our cost. However we will probably return at some future date and hope that the site will by then have had some much needed refurbishment.

3rd Visit

This was our 3rd visit and comparing to our last visit, the site especially pitches and facilities are looking rather tired. The pitches need weeding, the facilities need updating, the water points -insulation foam covering the cold water taps were very slimy and mouldy - need replacing. More attention to the cleaning of the service points as small amounts of glass, rubbish, including dog mess was present for the whole of our 3 week stay. That said the site is in a wonderful area with safe cycle routes surrounding it, we used the cycle route through the town out onto the Fens. Last year our daughter who was visiting, used the cycle hire on site and thoroughly enjoyed her trip, this year however even though the CAMC have extended the amount of sites with the cycle hire facility, Ferry Meadows has been removed WHY?? There is cycle hire in Nene Park however it is a lot more expensive and not as convenient as being on site. We will return probably next year and hopefully the site will have had an update.

Fantastic site

This is a Fantastic site our latest visit was for 2 weeks and took in the jubilee weekend A great effort by a few of the visitors The wardens were kept busy and worked hard to keep the site clean and tidy. The facilities in the park are worthy of a visit alone. There are great walks Fantastic for dogs, the cafe give a discount for members not well advertised so have your card ready and ask for it. Plenty to do locally Including steam train. Very helpful wardens as ever. The only disappointment was no papers or ice cream and I always looked forward to the Danish pastries. Shop no longer runs as most of the sites seem to have given up this facility. Makes it difficult to be spontaneous for some items having to dri e to get them.

Weekend Visit

We stopped off here to visit our friends, so only a two night stay.Promptly checked in,via handing over membership cards then finding a pitch first, then popping back to pick up cards and pay. With this method you do seem to save time.We pitched on the west site predominately hardstandings, this part ended up fully booked but not with the overcrowded penned in feeling you can get. As the site is split into two,the east side mainly grass again very nice and well managed. Our one full day spent walking around the country park and next time we visit taking the bikes.

Great site. A regular of ours.

Really like this site. It’s situated right on the Nene Valley Park for some great walks. On the other side is the Nene Steam Railway. Which is great too. Just up the road is a beefeater and a garden centre. I use this site regularly as it’s a 40 min drive from home. Pitches are well maintained and flat. The only down side is the shower block. It really does need an update. Ceiling is yellow in parts, ceiling panels are coming away. Mould in the corners. I will still use them, just could do with a Refurb! Needed a late checkout as I was running at an event on day of departure. The wardens had no issue allowing me to stay for a few extra hours. If it was busy I’m not so sure I would of been allowed.

Well run site with great amenities

We turned up at 1.30 and were welcomed at the gate and then ushered through efficiently. We had the choice of a variety of sites - some hard standing and some grass, some open and some sheltered. We were on the West side and I believe the East side is mainly grassy areas. The pitch was large, well spaced out and level. The park was busy but didn't feel crowded. The toilets and showers were spotless and there were plenty of them. It was a pleasant experience and we would return. If you run or cycle there are paths galore straight out of the site.

Don't arrive early, or incur the wrath!

We arrived at 12:20. I'd checked the app the night before, and it told me I could arrive from 12:00. On arrival at the barrier, I was met by one of the female wardens who proceeded to tell me off (yes, tell me off!) about arriving early, and telling me we shouldn't have got there till 1:00. She told us to leave immediately, and come back after 1:00! She wouldn't accept my explanation about the app. Whatever the reason for arrival times being wrong between the app and the website, the way she dealt with me, the paying customer, was nothing short of rude, and unacceptable. She made us feel unwelcome, and she somehow made us out to be the ones in the wrong. All in all, she got our visit off to a stressful start, as we proceeded to find somewhere to go with our caravan until we were "allowed" back. It is worth pointing out that the 2, large arrival lanes at this point were totally empty. We asked if we could at least park up there. She refused us that. She offered little help in advising us where to go and kill 35-40 minutes. I had to push her for directions to a suitable parking-up point. I'm extremely disappointed at the poor and unacceptable level of customer service on arrival at this site. This is a good site, and we're staying there again soon. But based on this visit, and therefore this review, I can only score it a 1 overall, because of the terrible start our visit got off to on this occasion.

Good kids fun

Great playing areas for the kids. Very helpful staff, Andy assisting with our late departing needs. Plenty to do around the area too. We are coming back soon...

Excellent location

We stayed just for one night because we had tickets for an event at the nearby East of England Arena. We've been to events at that Arena dozens of times but never explored the area. The site is excellent, big level pitches, spotless modern facilities, a warm welcome and right next door, a massive country park with huge lakes. Brilliant for cycling, dog walking, bird watching, etc. Completely quiet and peaceful, but loads of shops, restaurants etc a short drive away. It's great. Perhaps not the most obviously picturesque part of the country but a pleasant surprise.
