An Oassis of peace and quiet

I stayed on this site from the 11th to 17th of Oct. I have to disagree with the previous review about the serviced pitches being too close, having been a caravaner for 46 years perhaps I appreciate the modern club sites more than the more recent members. I stayed on a serviced pitch and found them amply big enough, the site was tranquil and peaceful. Even the warden did not wake us up clearing bins in his noisy tractor, he has a silent hand cart. The village pub 10 min from the site serves almost gourmet food and quality real ale. The toilets were the warmest I have ever used, lovely on an October morning and spotlessly clean, the wardens always had time to speak with the guests and keep the site immaculate. We found plenty to visit and were able to attend the 950th Anniversary of the battle of Hastings well performed by approx. 2000 re-enactors. I sometimes wonder if people with Motorhomes, having spent so much money on buying them have expectations that are unrealistic (no offense intended) I will be back in the spring.

some pitches too close

have just returned from this excellant site but having paid for a fully serviced pitch no 23 i did find that when 22 and 25 were occupied they were too close for comfort and spoilt our last day on the site. I think these pitches should be reviewed and i would remove pitch 26 completly and pitch 22 does not allow you to comply with the club standard of having your car parked on the offside of the caravan nor does 25.

Peace and quiet

Having been to this site several times it, as always, did not disappoint. Fairlight Wood is a lovely little site in a very quiet location. Being small it is ideal for those of us who want some peace and quiet rather than what might be found on larger sites. The only downside to our weekend (14-16 Oct) was the rain, other than that it was perfect. The wardens were very helpful as we had need of a socket set to fix our VW windscreen wipers and they readily obliged so thank you. We will be back.

a regular haunt

We have visited this site a number of times because of the location near Hastings & Rye. Some improvements which could be made - signage at the turning, a small white sign has appeared but could easily be missed. WiFi is terrible - I got up at 6am to order something online and it took me an hour and a half. This is bizarre. We plug our TV in with a long aerial lead which is OK. Showers are closed at 10.30am - we are on HOLIDAY, mid afternoon would be more sensible. When the showers are replaced please consider handheld showerheads which are much more user friendly. There is only one of this type in the ladies showers. When we visited, the site was probably only half full at best which was nice. The trees can be very oppressive if you have to have a pitch in deep gloom which is sometimes the case. If you are in Hastings try The Crown which is in the old part, really good food (not too many chips) and a great atmosphere. In spite of my whinges we will come back here as I love old Hastings which has improved greatly in the last five years or so - some interesting shops.

Good site for dogs

Stayed at Fairlight for a long weekend.  The site is well kept.  The woods around the site are great for dogs and there is also dog friendly beaches close by at Pett Level.  The site is quite but there are pubs and shops reasonably close by.  The only downside is there is not the usual caravan club signs to direct to the site.

A Great Site

Spent the loveliest 3 days at Fairlight recently. Great location on the edge of Guestling Woods, great for dog walks. Exceptionally clean site and very friendly and helpful managers. Nice short walk 10min walk through the woods to the village pub. A 10min walk up the lane to the village bus stop into Hastings. We caught the bus to Hasting one day and another day got the village bus up to the main road and picked up the coastal bus to Rye, so easy to get to places for those like us that don't have bikes and rely on local transport. We shall certainly return to this site for longer next time as a good location base for lots of places.

Perfection

This is the perfect site for us and our dog. It is tranquil and perfect for anyone who enjoys deciduous woodland, walking and wildlife. It's just a short walk through the woods to a great pub and footpaths lead to the coast, Romney Marsh and the wonderful Hastings Country Park. This is the best CC site we've stayed on during our 5 years of membership. Fairlight Wood is spotlessly clean and tidy, with wardens who clearly love the site just as much as the visitors. It even had 'gold' Wi-Fi. Intelligent, inquisitive and adventurous children will enjoy the site's open access to the woods but members whose children like riding bikes and scooters around a site should look elsewhere.

Peaceful site

Have recently returned from a weeks stay at this lovely quiet site. I particularly liked the way marked trees in the wood to walk to the local pub, which I can recommend. The toilets were kept immaculate during my stay. There are some wonderful woodland walks. The site is close to Hastings so whilst there's not much on site for children I'm sure they could find plenty of entertainment there. Had a lovely fish and chip lunch whilst on the front. The pirate playground brought much amusement to passers by. This is a great area for dog walking, woods, cliffs and plenty of promenades in surrounding areas. Some lovely towns to walk around Rye, Hastings and even Brighton. Wonderful time, will definitely go again.

Peaceful caravan site

My husband and I spent two nights at the Fairlight caravan site in October 2016. The site is very peaceful and quiet. It was very clean and tidy. The wardens were so helpful, welcoming and polite. We took our folding cycles and were able to cycle straight out of the caravan site onto the lanes. I should say that we found the roads around the site to be very hilly and whilst we enjoyed the ride, if you are looking for a leisurely cycle, it could be advisable to drive somewhere and then cycle. (Although we only had time for one cycle and so it may be that we only found the hills!) It is a fantastic site and we would definitely go back for another visit.

Back Again

This is the seventh time we have visited this site, six of them at the same time of year - first full week in October. This site never disappoints us, always spotlessly clean with friendly wardens and this time we had one of our dogs so I can comment on the dog walks. They are excellent with plenty of woods close by and Winchelsea Beach just down the road. Couldn’t get into one of our favourite spots this time but it didn’t spoil our enjoyment. All being well will be back next year.
