Lovely site, lovely area

We arrived home yesterday after a 9 night stay at this site, Immediately made to feel welcome upon arrival Wardens: Debbie and Keith - very friendly, extremely helpful - Have stayed in many campsites over the years and they must be one of the best wardens we have come across Gardens and site immaculately maintained Toilets and showers spotlessly clean, heated and always lots of hot water The site a right on the edge of the village of Dulverton, what a lovely area of our country, naturally beautiful and stunning. The locals very friendly and chatty, We have never been to somewhere so dog friendly. Almost everywhere welcome dogs, including The Thai restaurant, Woods Wine bar and The Bridge inn (All get very busy so would recommend booking before your stay) Took a local safari onto the moors - lots of wild exmoor ponies and red deer seen Despite the unpredictable British weather we will be visiting again some time

No signs for first time visitor

We have just spent an enjoyable week and would recommend the site to anyone who likes walking, especially with dogs. The Bridge Inn, near the site, provides very good food. I suggest you book if you want a table before coming as its very popular. On the downside there are still no signs directing first time visitors to the site despite multiple requests from visitors. Read the "View on map" link carefully before coming. If you miss the turning things get very difficult very quickly.

Great site perfect for walking

We have just returned from a 7 day stay at Exmoor House and what a lovely site it is. Even though the site was full the whole time we were there is was so peaceful,no road noise just the sound of the river, just what we needed to relax. Dulverton is a quaint little town with lovely shops and museum to look around. We did numerous walks from site, a 12 mile circular to Tarr Steps, and some shorter circular walks from site,so nice not to have to use the car. We visited lynton and lynmouth and walked from there to watersmeet for cream tea. Dunster castle was another great visit. The only small negative,we would have liked a better equipped information room. All in all a great base for a holiday, with lovely friendly wardens who work hard to keep the site immaculate. Will definitely return.

Bus Service decimated

Lovely site. Plenty of walking from site. However the local bus service has been decimated so travelling around by public transport is more limited. Bus pass is of little value. The 1pm rule appears not to apply as people were allowed on at 12.30pm regularly. This appears unfair to those who stick to the rules with the better pitches taken by early arrivals.

Enjoyable stay!

I have just enjoyed 10 days on this lovely little site. The wardens were delightful - friendly and helpful, something I have come to expect from CC sites. The facilities were immaculate and the pitches well maintained although for me, I prefer a little more open space. I choose a location primarily for walking and scenery, I usually travel alone with my dogs. The scope for walking did not disappoint, we enjoyed a complete variety of locations and would return for more. The site approach is a bit narrow and tricky for someone on their own, having to negotiate the entrance with no C&MC signage (a first for any site I've been to) is stressful. Please put a sign up, no one wants to end up in the town and several I spoke to did!!!

A charming retreat

We just spent 5 nights at this lovely little site for our first visit to Exmoor and what a treat. The wardens were welcoming, friendly and helpful and the grounds were immaculate, with a lovely floral area. We could only book one of the last few non-awning pitches, which was on a gravelled cut-de-sac area; not the prettiest location but fine for our needs. The shower blocks were compact but spotless and likewise the washing up areas. I should say that it wasn't the quietest site we've ever been on, but that was only because of the rushing of the adjacent river over the rapids and the screaming of the swooping swifts overhead in the evening. That sort of noise, we could live with every day!!! It's literally a five minute walk into the lovely small town of Dulverton and the Bridge Inn, where again the staff were very friendly and welcoming and on one evening slotted us in for a quick early meal when they were fully booked. The vanilla clotted cream ice creams from the town deli were absolutely delicious as was the fine lattes at Tantivy coffee shop. The Co-op was well stocked for provisions, if self-catering. We cycled from the site on four days, taking in over 120 miles of Exmoor's finest views from the moors. The lanes to Tarr Steps were challenging and the hills on the way to Winsford gave us a great appetite for the pots of tea and delicious Somerset Apple cake. The village is so pretty with its thatched cottages and small footbridges over the river and streams. On our last day we cycled to Dunster and what a pretty town that is too. We can recommend Tessa's Tearoom on the High street for sensational sandwiches and salads. All in all, we had a wonderful time at this charming little site.

What a great site

What a lovely site, challenging roads to get there with a larger outfit, but well worth it. Our large two dogs loved the site and the area, nice, but small dog walk on site, lots of lovely bigger walks around try Tarr steps and walk along a lovely stream, or travel onto the moor and walk there (beware sheep and cows loose on moor). We went to Horner woods, near mine head and found a national trust car park, tea room and great walk. There is another walk at watersmeet, steep walk down and up, but very pretty. We had fish and chips on the front at Lynmouth too which was great. Dulverton was very convenient for shopping and eating from the site. Excellent wardens too, what more could you want!
