Beautiful well kept and immaculately clean site, lovely friendly staff but not for us

We had been touring the Scottish highlands and had booked a 3 night stay to end our Scottish adventure and break up part of the journey back to Essex. We only stayed the one night and checked out the following morning, this site really wasn't for us, although it must be one of the best kept and clean sites we have ever been too, the staff are amazing, very friendly and helpful, our decision not stay is not a reflection on them but purely our decision to leave for a quieter location. We have a 12 year old son who still comes camping with us and he loves nothing more than to go out and explore on his bike, we felt we couldn't let him do this because of the warning we received upon checking in,to ensure we kept bikes locked inside if at all possible and very definitely locked at all times. We then read that the dog walk to the shore was locked from 8.00pm until the morning, which also made us feel uneasy about being broken into or having belongings stolen. Plane noise, we was woken up at 5.45am to the noise of planes coming into land at Edinburgh airport, we live near Stansted and regularly drive into London, but we was on holiday and had been so spoilt with the peace and tranquility of the highlands for the past 10 days, we therefore found this to be intolerable and too much of a shock. The satellite would not work on our pitch due to the tall trees

Very good site

Just had three days here a beautiful site well matured and staffed by very friendly and helpful staff just a short walk from the beach. the city centre is only ten pound taxi ride away, only thing to watch out for is the planes on final approach to the airport can be a little annoying but not the end of the world and will not stop us from going again, well worth a visit

Back again for several days

We have just revisited the site again and there were plusses and minuses this time. The site has nearly 150 pitches and is divided in two areas to the east and west of the entrance, both areas having a toilet block. Whilst these are kept very clean, they are in urgent need of updating and as the site was full during our stay, there is a definite shortage of toilets and showers, resulting in queues at times. Not sure why the toiletries shelves in the showers are at above head height which is a pain and we are not fans of the piped music - each to his own perhaps. There is a fair amount of noise both from the aircraft on the flight path into and out of Edinburgh airport and from the road outside the site which tends to be used as a race track by cars and especially motorbikes so care is needed entering or exiting the site. Otherwise the pitches are a good size and have a tv aerial plug on the electric pole although we got a better picture on our caravans aerial. The site is on the Marine Drive and a short walk down to the Firth of Forth. There are numerous places to visit in the near area - we especially like the Royal Botanic Garden which is only a ten minute drive away and entry is free although the on street parking is a bit pricey at £2.20 an hour. One gripe of the city is the appalling state of the roads which are more pot holes and bad patching up than road so expect a bumpy ride!

Recent stay

Excellent site. Staff pleasent. Shower facilitys very clean and tidy. Lots of hot water.Location for visiting Edinburgh was excellent. Bus stop 10 minutes away. Regular buses into the city. Only 4 pound for an all day ticket.this was Good value. The only dissapointment during the visit was the fish and chip van that was on site Friday. Very Expensive. £15.50 for 2 in my opinion greasy fish one chips, curry sauce that was like water and peas. Curry was all over the bag when we got back to the van and one of the peas were missing. I definatly would not recommend it. There is a toby inn15 mins walk away.

Good location

We have just spent a long weekend at the Edinburgh site, as we were attending the Rolling Stones concert on the Saturday night. We received a warm and detailed welcome, despite the "whole" world descending on reception at more or less the same time. Our pitch was adequate and the hedgerows separating give it a degree of privacy, which you don't always get. Washroom blocks were kept immaculate, bearing in mind that the site was full. The mini bus shuttle was a bonus which was reliable, good value and above all it pulled right on to site, which was important as the surrounding areas to the site, had seen better days. Of course there is a little disturbance from the proximity of Edinburgh airport, but did not bother us at all, because I am a bit of a plane "spotter" and my better half is hard of hearing. Yes overall a very enjoyable stay and we will be back, to visit this wonderful city. So unlike the Rolling Stones "we can get some satisfaction" from our stay. TY

on tour

This is my second visit to this site. The site is very well maintained and the wardens do an excellent job and very helpful and friendly. Given the previous reports on security I was apprehensive but gladly this proved unfounded. We made two trips into Edinburgh on the bus and found this to be an excellent way of travelling into the city. Just need the exact fare of £1.70 as the drivers don't give change. The 27 bus is the fastest for the city centre, taking approx 25 minutes. Due to road works the 16 service took approx 1hour. There are issues with the noise of traffic on the road alongside the site and the planes. But this is to be expected when you are so close to the city centre. The site was full and this presented a problem with having to queue for toilets and showers. I have never had to queue at ant other site for a shower at 8pm. The site needs to extend the toilets urgently. Overall we had a lovely stay and enjoyed both the walk to the sea front and the trips into the city. We most certainly will return

Not our cup of tea

Very well kept and presented site, as expected from CMC. Lots of international visitors. Nice walk along the waterside and nice cafe. Pitches seem enclosed due to hedging and there are no views other than other outfits. Having spent the previous ten days at Bunree we found it a bit claustrophobic. Planes overhead constantly can be an issue but go on the internet and track the flights where they are going - it doesnt seem as bad then. We were concerned about safety due to previous reviews and found ourselves worrying about leaving belongings in the van while we were out although to be fair we did not have an issue. Getting into the city centre by car (as i am disabled) was a nightmare and we gave up eventually. We got to the royal yacht brittannia ok. By far the best day out was to see the Kelies and ride on the Falkirk Wheel - awesome. North Berwick was a good day out as well. The Forth Bridges (all three of them) were a sight and South Queensferry is lovely. There didnt seem to be anywhere to eat at night close by other than a Toby carvery, either that or we just didnt look hard enough. A nice site for a city centre experience, especially if you are fit enough to use bikes or local buses.

Nice site

Edinburgh is a very clean and tidy site situated a bus ride from the city centre. We received a friendly welcome and chose a pitch near the well presented dog walk. Within 5 mins walk outside the impressive entrance gate is the Firth of Forth and the prominard. Being close to the airport there are aircraft passing nearby throughout the daytime but quiet overnight. There are barriers at the entry and exit but please read the other reviews reference security.
